I've bought two pairs of skinny jeans, a denim jacket, a hoodie and a tracksuit all for £70 overall, I'm pretty pleased with myself :laugh:

a ps4 bundle thing, 2 kindles and perfume of various guises (so far)

56 pieces of shortbread for £4.

I might go on the computer now and get some last minute deals

A new winter coat and a smoothie maker

A pair of converse reduced to £25 and a top off nastygal but i dont think its been all that great

Nothing and I've been to several shops today... Mainly errands and food shopping. If I bought something on special, it was by accident. I almost bought a huge mirror but it wasn't really a doorbuster (like $15 off) so I passed since we're doing all that shopping next year when we work on the house...

The sales didn't seem to be that good this year in store. I haven't touched online. Supposedly a bunch of shops opened yesterday so I can't just stroll in at like 9-10 and get cheap stuff now. :laugh: I looked on Amazon last night but just sooo much work... we recently bought a 58" TV on a good deal with a nice sub + soundbar... we're all shopped out tbh.

Also UK has Black Friday!? I thought it was like a North American thing because so we're so commercialistic...

I think Black Friday has started to become more of a thing over here in the UK over the last year or two. I honestly don't remember it being much of a big deal in the UK five years ago whereas now most retailers have sales for it and it's heavily advertised.

picked up a bag of sugar and some bread at the co-op, felt quite spirited there

...from what I recall, it was quite rare for there to be reductions and sales before Christmas, it was always more the January sales...I didn't buy anything personally or atm I haven't anyway but I think that it's a good thing because so many people struggle financially with Christmas and the expense of it so sales and getting these discounts can mean such a difference for so many with the discounts being offers at the time they're needed most...

..I bet you could have managed with just one of those Shaun but you only bought them both because it was Black Friday, you extravagant thing...

I think it started in Amazon here about 4 years ago, that's the first time I became aware if it, I remember because I bough a kindle the following year we had Black Friday in the shops where there were physical fights over TVs, last year to combat the fist fights they extended it to Black Friday weekend, and this year it's been a whole week. So yeah we like to adopt age old American customs in search of even more consumerism, I expect we will be celebrating Thanksgiving in a few years :laugh:

..we already do..(at our school..)...as we have quite a few American families who always bring us lots of Thanksgiving treats in and for the children as well...so YAY USA and Thanksgiving, this week was a delicious week..:flutter:..

There is that aspect to it, on the other hand it also encourages people to buy stuff they don't really need or want because it's "cheap', I don't mind pre Christmas sales but fgs call it that, Black Friday is an Americanism that has nothing to do with us

..yeah I have to say that I don't like the name Black Friday, it's like a doom and gloom year ending type thing but Fridays have always had a bad rap with things like Friday 13th as well.../poor Fridays..:sad:..

Celebrating Thanksgiving it in school is like celebrating Diwali and EID, if you have American families it's part of encouraging inclusiveness though so I would be surprised if you didnt, we don't in our school as no Americans :laugh:

:laugh: I saw some of my American cousins refer to it as "non causcasian Friday" :laugh: so I guess there might be a few rumbles about the name over there :worry:, apparently it got its name as it's when a lot of stores turned their profits from red to black..maybe Maru can confirm or deny this

..yeah we do celebrate../or acknowledge Diwali I should say as we do with many significant things with other cultures...we are in an area where we've always had quite a few American families with the air bases being so close and many preferring their child to experience a UK school system, rather than an American base school.../we don't have so many as we used to though because many bases have closed over the years...I was talking to an American parent last week, asking him about his Thanksgiving plans and traditions and then somehow we got to talking about politics and the new president elect and his thoughts about Trump and it made me think about TiBB and conversations here..:laugh:...

Some of the shops here have been doing it at midnight or on Thanksgiving day... but there's been backlash from some because it's encroaching on a legitimate holiday and forcing workers to have to abandon dinner earlier...

I guess despite it being a US thing, sites like Amazon have no reason to limit the range of their customer base... also kinda weird to have sales on one side and regular price on the other... they can probably afford to hold it internationally... Steam sales are nice too... :smug: When my friend came from Osaka to visit here, we woke up at 5am after Thanksgiving and took him to Best Buy... in retrospect, kinda crazy waking up someone who is jet-lagged to go on a shop-a-thon... but he seemed to enjoy it.

Thanksgiving is a great holiday... except when you're on a diet :laugh:
