I just realised it's the same councillor from the Eurovision comments about Ireland welp

Alf 14-05-2017 09:24 PM

Why in the comments section, is everybody apologising? did they do something wrong? Who are they apologising for?

Look at how many comments there are with people saying "I'm so sorry"

Generation guilt for other peoples actions.

JTM45 14-05-2017 09:41 PM

It's called ''empathy'' and it's decent people showing support for someone.
People aren't apologising. They're saying that in this day and age they feel sorry that people as biggotted and small minded as this guy are still holding on to their racist, hateful ways.

Because that's clearly the issue here.

To be honest with you pal, I can't really make out the story.

There was a scarecrow competition and this guy said that this scarecrow looked like Christine Ohuruogu, do I have that right?

Cherie 14-05-2017 10:10 PM

What an idiot he is

Yes,.....

Now come back and let us know when you've processed all of that information.

I remember a housemate from BB8 that looked like Worzel Gummidge.

And? Pray tell how that too plays into dated racist stereotypes?

Northern Monkey 14-05-2017 10:22 PM

I honestly never knew 'scarecrow' was a racist word.Glad i know now.I'll be careful when i visit the countryside.

Wizard. 14-05-2017 10:23 PM

Sometime's objects remind people of people, many famous people have even turned up on a piece of toast.

I've just compared a white person to Worzel Gummidge (A white scarecrow) I'm as guilty as this man.

There is real racism in the World, and who knows? this guy may be one. But I wouldn't call this incident racist. You're perfectly entitled to think otherwise. But it does make a mockery of real racism.

Real racism? Like the golliwogs in years gone by?

Saying a black woman somehow looks like an offensive stereotype of a black person is acceptable?

Northern Monkey 14-05-2017 10:34 PM

He made a scarecrow that resembled someone?I Don't see how it's racist tbh.People do it with Guy Fawkes every year

Please tell me you are joking it's a random jet black shape with 2 button eyes and a large red slit for a mouth.... How could that in any universe resemble a person?!

You know I used to find you funny haha, but now you're just funny weird :/

Amy Jade 14-05-2017 11:06 PM

That's disgusting, what an awful thing to do. Hope she doesn't take it to heart.

Glad he was fired :clap1:

Could you make an exact replica of somebody's face on a scarecrow?

I can't see it being an easy task. Is'nt this for some scarecrow competition?

Suppose he'd done one of a white celebrity.D'you think he could make it any better?

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

People need to stop taking things to heart nothing racist about it at all and if it was the other way round nobody would bat an eyelid

Yes, there is.

Your lack of awareness isn't evidence of a lack of racism.

Saying someone looks like something is not racist

Of course not, your title is 'racially abused' but I don't see how this is abuse? He stated who the scarecrow reminded him of, that's it.

So he didn't deliberately create it as a racist stereotype?

I suppose the Olympics clothes and flag were a coincidence?

You find it acceptable to essentially make a giant "golliwog"?

Trust me I know what racial abuse is I've spent most of my childhood being told every last story of what it's like for a Jamaican to come to England in the 50s and I can tell you know what you see in this thread is not racial motivated it's a bad tasted joke at most

Making a giant golliwog isn't racially motivated? Are you being ironic?

But if it were to be reversed and it was a white scarecrow dressed in Olympic clothing and he said "it looks like Rebecca Adlington" then what would be the harm in that? It can be offensive if the scarecrow is ugly and she doesn't want to be compared to an ugly scarecrow but just because it's a black scarecrow she has exclusive rights to take it as racially offensive?

Racial offense should be based on intent and not perception because that's when it gets really fuqed up.

It is a bad tasted joke racial abuse is when you make deliberate slurs to hurt someone.

He made it for attention not to cause offence

LukeB 14-05-2017 11:58 PM

The ignorance in this thread :bored:

That makes it completely ok and not at all racist then.

Denver 15-05-2017 12:00 AM

The racism card is overused in today's society try being black in the 50s and 60s then you will understand.

The more people say everything is racist the more irreverent it is.

Rasicm is the intent to offend with racial slurs

How is it a gollywog? Does this look like a real reflection of a white person to you?

So now scarecrows have to be identical looking to humans or they're seen as mocking a race?
