Endemol bossses looking "not just at next year but the next 10 years" of BB

And a shake up of the voting system has been discussed:

Quote:

He said the format requires “creative renewal” and Endemol Shine UK chief executive Richard Johnston told Broadcast this is already under way.

“We are totally committed to working with Ben and his team and making Big Brother as brilliant and relevant as it can possibly be. We have some of the best creative brains in the business looking at not only next year but the next 10 years, in terms of creative direction. There are some really exciting ideas being discussed,” he said.

One former Big Brother exec producer suggested the producers need to overhaul the “outdated” voting system to bring fans closer to the show. Insiders believe that Frow’s public comments may bring forward negotiations about the show’s future.

For all Frow’s tough talk, cancelling Big Brother would leave C5 with a vast hole in its schedule. Last year, the Viacom-owned broadcaster aired 69 episodes of Celebrity Big Brother and 51 episodes of the ‘civilian’ show, as well as 87 hours of the Bit On The Side spinoff, totalling 211 hours. Celebrity Big Brother accounted for 39 of the channel’s top 50 highest-rating programmes of 2016.

One entertainment indie exec mused: “I can’t imagine what he thinks will play for 100 hours at 9pm. Maybe he’ll show 60 series of Rich House, Poor House?”

This is good news. I hope they dont change it too much though as i want classic big brother back not love island 2.0

RichardG 01-09-2017 05:57 PM

one year or ten years, i'll give up kpop if anything changes for the better. it's not going to happen.

RileyH 01-09-2017 06:02 PM

The voting system is fine when it's VTS

If it means VTS for both celeb and civilian, it's a good idea and as long as BB continues

Bring fans closer to the show? Don't tell me people will be evicted based on crowd reactions :skull:

The outside contact rule being completely ripped apart? Eviction shows hosted live from the garden? The mob booing from behind the camera runs? The house to be made entirely of glass like a zoo? Fans get to meet the housemates during the series for a date in Nando's?

After reading this idk I feel like Ben’s comments about him wanting it to be axed was a front & he was giving Endemol a KICK UP THE ASS x

Jodie. 01-09-2017 06:24 PM

Pre-BB17 vibes anyone x

smudgie 01-09-2017 06:25 PM

Maybe they should come on here and find out what would work for the show.
Just saying, some real good diehard fans here.

Ah I can't wait for us to get excited about something for five months only for them to drop whatever they have planned (in that case an entirely new house) a week in only to return to the same old tacky twists

but then again BB17 was good

T* 01-09-2017 06:27 PM

They're going to pull the same 'THE GAME IS CHANGING' thing and some people are gonna be all 'OOH THEy"RE ACTUALLY DOING IT!' and they wont.
it will be trash.
Channel 5. Doesn't. Deserve. It.

Except you've got the facebook chavs claiming it's fixed when they don't agree with the result oops

Littlegreen 01-09-2017 07:36 PM

How are the public meant to get "closer"??

You watch the housemates have access to Twitter and instagram next series. :skull:

Do people actually listen to them?

BBUK-Fan 01-09-2017 07:54 PM

I'm glad they are even thinking of a future for the show especially after Ben Frow's comments

I never vote on save , i wanna vote who i want out.

Greg! 01-09-2017 08:31 PM

Maybe they'll introduce VTS and VTE at the same time, I think they did that in the Australian BB

MB. 01-09-2017 08:39 PM

Personally I thought that pretty clearly meant doing a Love Island and switching to free app voting (though they're trying to conserve money so *shrug*)

Jodie. 01-09-2017 08:45 PM

Mind you, no matter how much Endemol try to make it better

It’s up to C5 to promote the helllllllll out of it x

This is probably closer to the truth but this show needs a whole lot more than free app voting

Mess imagine if they axed weekly live shows and replaced them with more backdoor style evictions :skull: and just have Emma turn up once in a while a la Caroline

I agree tbh it did feel out of character as he had previously been in support of bb.

Let's have an all male house half straight half gay with neither allowed to disclose their sexuality to one another. That's a proper social experiment.

I think you might be confusing Big Brother with Bait Buddies

I have no idea what that is....actually is that the bait bus where they lure in straight boys to do gay porn? Lol if so no that's not what I mean. Every reality show has a gimmick these days and not one revolves around the gay community it's all tits and straight relationships. It would honestly be an interesting concept imo.

Calderyon 02-09-2017 12:03 AM

Twitter & Facebook voting to get introduced/re-introduced and Landline & Mobile Phone voting to be scrapped?

Or you could just watch Playing It Straight and save yourself the time

supertv247 02-09-2017 06:38 AM

The first thing I also thought about the voting is the introduction of free app voting. Almost every single TV show with viewer voting has it now, except BB, which does make it look very dated.

I read somewhere recently that BB was getting around 100k votes per series while Love Island was getting 100k votes her 30 minute voting window on the app this year. I know they had higher ratings, but that's still an extremely big difference because of the free app voting

I don't know where they would make their money if they were to do this though. Love Island/X Factor/I'm A Celebrity/Britain's Got Talent make theirs through ad revenue but Big Brother doesn't generate much ad revenue anymore does it?

Cal. 02-09-2017 10:44 AM

I'm also shocked the voting is so low now. 100k+ alone voted in the BB15 final didn't they? Or was that just Helen's votes icr?
