Is it okay giving money as a gift on Christmas?

Do you think it´s rude, tacky etc. ?

RileyH 22-12-2017 05:19 PM

It's what I ask for every year so yeah

Morgan. 22-12-2017 05:31 PM

Of course it's okay. I ask for money from my dad (there's a whole rant in the chat threads) butt he said it's a wasted gift so doesn't ever agree to giving it.

Crimson Dynamo 22-12-2017 05:36 PM

I think its a cop out and not what a present is or is for. just dont bother iof you cant think or be arsed to think what to get. why bother

but if you can't think of anything to buy them just give them money so they can buy things for themselves

and completely negate the whole premis of a present

its a ciop- out, just dont give anything - its not a law

The whole idea IS to think of something

armand.kay 22-12-2017 05:48 PM

Its just so impersonal to me it says 'I didn't think about you, here's some money get yourself something nice". Whereas a nice though out gift even if it doesn't cost much goes a long way.

bots 22-12-2017 05:51 PM

it's perfectly valid. As to whether its appropriate, everyone is different. Some people prefer a surprise, others would prefer to choose their own gift, and money is ideal for them

If you don't know someone well enough to be able to, either have a good think or ask around and find out what would make a good present, why are you getting them a gift at all?

True so much money is wasted on stuff people don't want, so cash is fine in my book

Crimson Dynamo 22-12-2017 06:13 PM

gin and or whisky is a great gift for a man or a woman

then all you have to worry about is brats

Shaun 22-12-2017 06:17 PM

Can't go wrong with a voucher

Ant. 22-12-2017 06:20 PM

If my mum just gave me £200 each Christmas instead of spending so much money on boring old LEGO I could be a billionaire in Bitcoins by now but nope all that lego is living it up in the loft!

Crimson Dynamo 22-12-2017 06:21 PM

i dont know who invented Pandora but they sure did men a favour

and its all wrapped too

genius

joeysteele 22-12-2017 06:25 PM

It's fine.

Jamie89 22-12-2017 06:27 PM

Yes. People buy too much useless tat at Christmas and there's so much waste. At least with money you know that it'll be used and will be helpful.

caprimint 22-12-2017 06:27 PM

It's totally fine, especially if the person asks for it or prefers it. Tbh buying a present you would most likely spend less money so it's not 'tacky' at all.

then burn the xmas tree and dont bother meeting up over Christmas

:skull:

So they're still getting use out of it then?

I like this idea, much more efficient :clap2:

People who ask for money tend to cry when they have no presents to open

smudgie 22-12-2017 08:03 PM

Son gets money for his main present every year, then his sister drags him off to the shops for new clothes.
Of course he gets a few little surprise pressies, I have also been emotionally blackmailed into stockings again this year.:hehe:

Wizard. 22-12-2017 08:05 PM

Well this year I didn't have loads of money so I bought my partner lots of little presents and then when I get paid next week he will have money as a main present just depends how things work out.

mizzy25 22-12-2017 08:06 PM

Of course its acceptable. All my nieces and nephews get money off me and they love it. I got £10 in a card off a customer today and I was delighted

waterhog 22-12-2017 10:11 PM

you lucky thing MIZZY25 - its nice to be appreciated. you must be working hard.

BigSister 22-12-2017 10:36 PM

I prefer gift cards if im getting a gift card or money but yeah I think its perfectly ok to give money as a present. At least you can get what you want with money

Jordan. 22-12-2017 10:44 PM

If that's what they want otherwise it's a tad unthoughful

armand.kay 22-12-2017 11:24 PM

I wouldn't like it if my parents just handed me cash on christmases and my birthday. Wheres the excitement in that? What's there to look forward to? I don't even really ever ask for anything for christmas or my birthday, my mum always told me it was rude so I genuinely never know whats coming and I love it.

LaLaLand 22-12-2017 11:25 PM

Absolutely, some people are nightmares to buy for and won't tell you what they want definitely for some reason.

Money allows them to get said gift(s).

T* 22-12-2017 11:35 PM

...yes? I ain’t gonna be like ‘UGH MONEY AGAIN YOU UNCREATIVE SLOB’

Calderyon 23-12-2017 03:09 AM

For me, i´d rather know what´s coming than not knowing these days. It was different when you were children. And nowadays i much prefer to have soft packets (clothes, candy etc.) than hard (appliances, toys etc.). If i want something for example a new phone, i´d rather buy it myself rather than have someone buy it to me.

And i don´t mind and prefer money/gift card as a gift as it will be put into good use anyway (well, from my point of view anyway). Bus card reload etc. And it´ll give me options, which i wouldn´t have if i had the actual gift, which could lead to a disappointment.

y.winter 23-12-2017 08:14 AM

It's not as special as a personal gift - but eventually they would buy something that will bring them happiness, and it's kind of the point of gifts, so why not!

Black Dagger 23-12-2017 08:25 AM

Bit lazy but if they want it then sure.

bots 23-12-2017 08:39 AM

Its an age thing, you get to a point where you have everything you need, and if you don't have, you buy it. So in those circumstances what use is a gift.

Josy 23-12-2017 08:42 AM

I don't see a problem with it tbh.

All my oldest nieces and nephews get money, a selection box and an alcohol gift set from us that way they still have a little something to unwrap Christmas morning but also have money to buy what they want to.

Northern Monkey 23-12-2017 09:45 AM

Well it’s better than vouchers(basically telling them where they have to spend the money).I never understood those.

Amazon vouchers are great, not exactly limiting
