Good news

Let's hope it's May next!

Let's get some men in these positions.

Kinda surprised you would use language like that about a female politician tbh

The PC being so un-PC - what a surprise!

When it suits, which is one reason why I don’t buy into it all - it’s all rhetoric for political gain - nothing more!

Twosugars 29-04-2018 09:53 PM

I didn't mind her, one of the better Tories imo.
Why did she lie about the targets? This is a party which had limiting immigration (with targets, 100K if remember correctly) in their manifesto for most of the time since 2010.
If you aim to do that it is logical you'd have internal targets.
She claimed there were none, so either she lied or didn't read the documents. Lying or incompetence. Crafty stupid or plain stupid? Either way, she was the architect of her own downfall. Pity, as out of this lot, she was one of the better ones.

Twosugars 29-04-2018 09:55 PM

Not to mention that most of the blame for the immigration policies over the last 7 years is Theresa's who was Home Secretary for 6 years.

You are aware it's a Kim Woodburn quote, right? And that I'm utilising it as a joke?

For what it's worth however, I have absolutely no qualms about people using gendered language as insults so long as there's an equivalent, and in this case there is. Terms like 'slut', 'slag' and 'wh*re' are my biggest bugbear because they're inherently sexist and also based on the absurd notion that promiscuity is a problem. You're probably thinking of my aversion to them. I may be a feminist, but I'm not one that thinks women have an inalienable right to not be insulted...that's belittling in itself.

Could you point me in the direction of my political correctness please?

It's a Kim Woodburn quote and you're on a Big Brother forum - so please learn it and the concept of a joke whilst you're at it too.

I knew it wouldn't take long before we disagreed.

More women in politics, please.

Not Jack pretending to be feminist, whilst hating women, worming his way into number 10 with his evil plans.

You may be onto something there.

Welcome to the main stage, Miss Karen Bradley

Oliver_W 29-04-2018 11:14 PM

I didn't really have much of an opinion of her in general - she was never really vile or amazing. But she has shown herself to be either stupid or incompetent - there's nothing wrong with immigration/deportation targets, so why lie? If she didn't know about them, then she was pretty crap.

"It was a joke" - that tired old platitude.

and no i am not resizing ha

Amber is a very competent MP and I think it's rather telling that she was set up in this and forced to resign, while the opposition seems to get away with anything. Also, for the record, how can labour possibly call for her resignation when they make an absolute mockery of the post by appointing Diane Abbot to the shadow

Withano 30-04-2018 07:10 AM

Lol good

I didn't get that at all to be fair, would still say bitch is an inherently sexist term though or at the very least very degrading

There's not really much point in language policing. Insults are, well, insulting whether or not they're gendered, and to pick it apart doesn't achieve much. Unless you can find a post where Jack_ says "you shouldn't call someone a bitch because it's sexist", let it go :)

Its also a very insulting term, applied to a woman that has used her best efforts to do what is an incredibly difficult job. There is just no need for it.

Nicky91 30-04-2018 01:10 PM

i say good luck Sajid with your new job

Probably because Diane Abbot was absolutely nothing to do with the handling of the Windrush scandal, just a hunch.

Greg! 30-04-2018 05:23 PM

I always thought she seemed like a nice enough woman but this whole affair has changed my opinion of her. It sounds like the home office has a culture of hostility towards migrants which doesn't sit right with me. She also blatantly lied, (and if she didn't it just highlights that she's really incompetent)
