London Mayor authorises giant orange baby Trump blimp during his visit

Row breaks out over giant baby Donald Trump blimp which will be flown over London during US president's visit.

A row has erupted after Sadiq Khan gave his permission for a giant balloon of Donald Trump to be flown over Westminster by protesters during the US President’s official visit to London.

The controversial decision has sparked outrage amongst pro Trump campaigners but has been widely applauded by those planning to protest the President’s visit.

The police and national air traffic service will have the final say on whether the unflattering portrayal of the President can take to the skies.

But Mr Khan has described the balloon as a symbol of “peaceful protest”.

How embarrassing for us all.

Amy Jade 06-07-2018 12:01 AM

It's disrespectful.

I am no fan of Trump at all but when I read this earlier I just felt it was petty and silly.

Screeching at this.

bots 06-07-2018 05:07 AM

The Mayor and Trump have history. What it shows is how petty and vindictive the Mayor is. The better person would treat Trump with respect

:clap1::clap1::clap1: ^ THIS is exactly why I love you, A.J. - you are so balanced and fair. Trump is deeply flawed, but he is the democratically elected President of the United States, one of our closest allies, and as the Mayor of our Capital city, Kahn should dignify that office and show respect.

Far worse leaders than Trump have been received by the UK including Romania’s Nicolae Ceausescu, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe, King Salman of Saudi Arabia and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

'Petty and silly' and 'disrespectful' are wonderfully apt descriptors.

:clap1::clap1::clap1: This post is even MORE applaudable because I know you are no Trump fan, BOTS.

Kazanne 06-07-2018 06:07 AM

How stupidly childish is this,we must be a laughing stock,he may not be liked by some, but there are much worse people than him who have visited, maybe this idiot mayor was too scared of the ramifications of doing it for more radical visitors, as bots said, a bigger person would not have allowed it, The mayor is happy to have Trump made a figure of fun, maybe he should be looking a little closer to home,it's bloody embarrassing.

They are all a bunch of morons throwing a tantrum and Sadiq should be sacked for being so unprofessional. That’s what we have as a major. He needs to direct his energies to tackling knife crime in London but would rather poke his tongue out at Trump. No wonder London is in such a state.

It proves that Khan is no better than he accuses Trump of being and is just as childish. Pot and kettle.

bots 06-07-2018 06:28 AM

An awful lot of Americans spend good tourist money in London. By allowing this, the Mayor is letting his personal feelings override the well being and prosperity of the people he represents. By allowing this he is automatically generating bad feeling with a huge number of voters that chose Trump as their president and would have spent their $ in London.

Cherie 06-07-2018 06:31 AM

The major is elected to represent Londoners, like anyone else in business or otherwise he needs to be professionsl, no matter where you stand in politics this is embarrassing

Does it really, from a professional and business point of view I don’t think so, its a pity he isnt more active in other areas affecting London, so far as Mayor I cant point to anything he has done

Beso 06-07-2018 06:41 AM

What a vile thoughtless little man..an unneccessarry expense all round and money the victims of grenfell could have used in a more productive way had these moronic protestors been as kind and caring about others as they would like us to believe

He and they are embarrassing themselves - but everyone else will have to pick up the pieces. Shame on Khan.

That's exactly what I thought when the news article about this yesterday. Makes me wonder about people who planned and paid for this

And as Bots suggested it does make you wonder at the kind of petty fool the Mayor of London is.

If those who planned this and the mayor who approved think this makes them somehow better than Trump they're sadly mistaken.

Northern Monkey 06-07-2018 07:37 AM

Trying to piss off our greatest ally Just before we Brexit.Very clever Sadiq you fecking brain donor.

smudgie 06-07-2018 07:43 AM

Pathetic.:fist:

Not one of his best decisions, shows him up somewhat.

Vicky. 06-07-2018 07:50 AM

OK I am not thrilled by Trumps visit and the way so many police are being taken off the street to protect an arsehole, however, this is childish as ****. Yes its a peaceful protest, but its still childish.

I think you’re rather outnumbered on this. There is nothing to be proud about when our childish and vindictive major shows his true colours. He is every bit as bad as Trump.

Crimson Dynamo 06-07-2018 07:55 AM

No surprise with the vile mayor and his agenda

embarrassing for London

Matthew. 06-07-2018 07:57 AM

meh

it’s not as funny as the Mayor of Sheffield calling him a “wasteman” and banning him from Sheffield, though

Cherie 06-07-2018 08:31 AM

Commuters in South London were told not to travel to London yesterday, has he been vocal on that shambles?

The USA is all about free speech (allegedly) and this is an expression of freedom to protest . As an American, Trump should understand :hee:.

As for alienating US tourists... The majority of US citizens who are fans of Trump have most likely never left their home state, let alone the country.

when the **** hits the fan and tourism rates go down I will quote this. Irrespective of that, the mayor is still letting personal views dictate his judgement, and that's not what he is there for. He is supposed to represent all Londoners, not just those that share his political stance.

Crimson Dynamo 06-07-2018 08:44 AM

this is the level of their "protest" and it shows you just who these people are

I can't get my head round just how childish this is, the mayor of London needs to be doing things that matter for London, what a prick he is,the money spent on all that could have gone to some worthy cause, people need to stop soaking up all the fake and hysterical news about Trump, and remember we will probably need the US when we finally exit the EU. It's not even an inflatable that makes any sense.

They won't go down any more than UK tourism rates to the US went down when Obama spoke out against Brexit (i.e. Zero).
