The editing is driving me CRAZY

I notice the editing/production are slipping into bad habits once again, so that's why I made this thread. It's SO frustrating because the cast are good and so are the twists, but the editing is so incredibly badly done.

Producers, PLEASE;
  • Show us where an argument comes from, not just the argument itself, and certainly show at least a brief bit of immediate aftermath (ie. housemates walking off)
  • Stop the montages and playing music over the top of everything. That's NOT big brother.
  • Stop giving us the oddly-specific "warnings" after every ad break, it spoils any shock of stuff that happens
  • Have ONE brief "in tonights show.." at the start and then leave it. Don't spoil everything before we see it
  • Instead of having Marcus voice-over what the task entails, show us the HMs being told by the Big Brother voice.
  • Essentially, stop the reality TV cliches, and stick to showing us an accurate depiction of the last 24 hours. That's what a highlights show should be.

It's nowhere near as bad as it has been in the past. Chill out.

It has been worse, but only slightly imo. They need to take it properly back to basics & edit like they did back in BB6. (with updated graphics ofc & HD)

It's not even bad

thisisdanny 17-09-2018 10:02 PM

I think it's been alright? There's a lot to fit into an hour (especially with this messy bunch) so some of it will inevitably be rushed and condensed

Cant you just watch Channel 5 HD?

Also I think the graphics this series are great...The titles are amazing and even though they are still using graphics on the housemates names atleast they aren't the old shiny TOWIE style on screen name tags.

Edit: Im watching the episode as I was out and recorded it but yeah you do have a point about the music...Its not needed.

He was referring to BB6.

Have BB6 style nowadays, only HD and modern graphics.

Yes, this.

Pretty much, replicate the BB6 style of editing.. but obviously don't downgrade the stream quality or replace the graphics (which are actually an improvement). I didn't think it was a controversial idea lol

Marsh. 17-09-2018 10:32 PM

Although, I will defend BB6 graphics. :nono: They still hold up as better than some of the sh*t they use now.

T* 17-09-2018 10:32 PM

don’t get why people always chirp in telling people to calm down when he has some valid points

T* 17-09-2018 10:33 PM

-didn’t realise it was Marc and awkwardly looks around- a joke of course!

tea though the BB7 ones are amazing too, weirdly timeless and still modern today.

armand.kay 17-09-2018 10:37 PM

BB6 is notorious for just cutting to mid argument without showing where the argument stems from or even showing the aftermath...

In the days of 24/7 live feed it was less offensive than all that gets covered up nowadays.

BB6 would have looked sexy in HD tbf.

Maru 17-09-2018 10:50 PM

The production has slipped quite a bit I agree. Can't put my finger on it... but when I can look away for 15-30 seconds and have no idea what is going on, that's not a good sign... didn't have that problem during CBB.

Yeah I know but apart from the montages and music the editing really isn't that different. Theres not much that can really be done about important bits being missed out apart from giving us live feed. They can't just dedicate all of the hls to arguments so unfortunately sometimes the beginning or aftermath has to be scrapped

armand.kay 17-09-2018 10:56 PM

I think the problem is more to doo with the fact that theres no actual storylines yet so it just feels a lot more choppy

Thank you.

I understand my post might come across OTT/dramatic but glossing over noticeable flaws isn't good for the series.

Jack_ 17-09-2018 11:25 PM

It's really odd that there's been more music montages so far in each episode than there were in the CBB22 ones. I don't mind them, but only one at the start of the ep

The titles are OUTSTANDING though, without question the best since BB7 and in all honesty the more I see them they may end up being the best ever? They are SO slick

JoshBB 17-09-2018 11:27 PM

Oh, the titles are phenomenal. Might be my favourite EVER tbh. That's why I didn't include graphics as part of my critique

tbf the only tea I had was that they weren't auditioning anyone that had been on reality TV before

Rob! 18-09-2018 12:34 AM

The only thing that bothers me about the editing this series is that they need different scene transitions. Like they're ALL basically the same and they get a bit grating after a while.

At least it isn't housemate faces.

I agree.

MTVN 18-09-2018 09:14 PM

Agree about the previews and the warnings, the 'be prepared for themes of homophobic abuse' was unnecessary and they don't need to do the 'coming up' before every ad break imo

Also they seem to have scrapped the 'previously' recaps at the start of eps in the last couple of years but I always found them useful if I'd missed an ep

I believe the warning thing is a legal requirement of some kind.

most of the arguments come from nowhere as people are bored so you probable cant show where they came from as they came from really tiney coments that mean nothing if you watch it

music over the top makes things funnies... but I dont really notise it

Stop giving us the oddly-specific "warnings" after every ad break, it spoils any shock of stuff that happens

yes thats annoying... once at the beginning of the show is all they need, it big brother, its been running 18 years, we know what to expect

Have ONE brief "in tonights show.." at the start and then leave it. Don't spoil everything before we see it

I dont mind 2 as both are different and can make you feel more excited about whats to come

Instead of having Marcus voice-over what the task entails, show us the HMs being told by the Big Brother voice.

im not really a fan of the large number of big brother voices, I think two is ok one male one female, but I only tolerate them in the diary room

JoshBB 19-09-2018 10:08 PM

Tonight's editing was much, much better. It still wasn't perfect but what a step in the right direction
