Xenophobia towards Anamélia
 

Why is it okay for people on the forums to make fun of her beautiful Brazilian name how they do? I think it's a bit offensive and shouldn't be allowed. Some other people in the series have quite unique names too, but just because hers is a bit more out there people constantly think it's okay to call her by the wrong name. :nono: It's very rude and unneeded.

I can't believe people who probably have the most basic common names in the book have the nerve to even do that

It happens a lot on here...year in and year out...it's childish and disrespectful.

But it's not fair to just pull it up on your faves when who people have been doing it to other housemates

For goodness sake! , why is Ana so different to other housemates who's names get mocked !! :bored: .

I haven't seen her name mocked , she chants her own name in the house ! .

I am talking about on the forums, not in the house, that's a different kettle of fish. She seems to have had to anglicise her name because she is used to people not making an effort.

Well I haven't. :shrug: I have seen some people butcher her name every time they mention her.

And as I said I haven't seen her name mocked on here , BUT housemates get their names mispelt all the time on here .

Anamelia isn't that hard to spell so it's noticeable when people are deliberately changing it I suppose.

Autocorrect changes it for people maybe?? . Why does Ana get special treatment ?? .
Other housemates get their name spelt wrong as well on here ,it's not the end of the world .

In CBB people deliberately kept calling Jermaine Jerome as a joke ON HERE :sleep: .

So I called Roxy Boxy seen as it became "funny" to call people the wrong names :bored: .

It happens every BB and CBB so it certainly not against her personally , and absolutely nowt to do with her being Brazilian , who cares where she comes from its her personality that matters.

Tbh it doesn't really bother me, I'd be a hypocrite to call out people's posts on Housemates when I've been mocking about Housemates names in the past myself.

It's double standards, nobody cared when Jermaine was called Jerome on here :notimpressed: . so I decided to say Boxy instead :hee: .

TBH it is a bit xenophobic though IF people are doing it on purpose to point out that the name is unusual. If it's a genuine mistake then :shrug:.

I have 'christened' her 'Anamaniac' but that is ALL to do with her erratic behaviour and NOTHING to do with the fact that her name has Brazilan origins.

Similarly, I christened Roxanne Pallett 'Pallett The Mallett' and have probably mis-named other HM's in the past too, though I can not remember.

It is not that important to me, sorry.

Well true, "Anna" and "Amelia" are pretty standard names these days, so "Anamelia" isn't exactly an "out there" or "foreign sounding" name in the first place. You should hear some of the names kids at my daughter's school have D:. It's a school full of very "well off" kids, too, and all very... erm... very very "British". Most people think it's just chavs that have started with weird names like Chardonnay these days. NOT SO at all. The rich ones are at it too. Just with things like... Constanacious... or Eughbertington...

i think when a persons name is modified to suit their character its quite fine. Some of the more personal descriptions are where it starts to get a bit dodgy.

I don't think i've seen anyone disrespecting Anamelia for her country of origin at all :think:
