Every year Strictly has a Christmas special with previous contestants , it's a more fun seasonal one . And usually the studio audience votes for the winner . It's pre recorded as well not LIVE .

They're not usually past contestants though.

I could've sworn the Specials used to be for celebs who couldn't/wouldn't commit to a full series.

Charlie Brooks has done it and she never took part in a series. :suspect:

It only recently became an All Star thing

Marsh there's usually have a mix of previous contestants and new faces, Alison Hammond did christmas special, Colin Jackson , Chris Hollins , Kimberly walsh etc . Also JB from JLS did it and he was a new face .

It's a mix of previous contestant and new ones , like i said JB from JLS was never on strictly but he took part in the Christmas special same with Ricky Norwood & Bobby Ball .
