Andrea Leadsom - parents should be free to bar their children from LGBT education
https://images.lbc.co.uk/images/4251...HjhuGACgEMBmw=
The Leader of the House was on LBC as she was asked whether she agreed with the parents who have removed their children from lessons in school teaching about gay and lesbian relationships. She said she was pleased that her own children were taught about it, but it was her choice of words when saying parents should be able to opt out of the classes that raised eyebrows. Speaking to Nick Ferrari, she said: "I think that it's right that the government should have passed legislation that requires that relationships and sex education is taught in schools. "But at the same time, I also agree that it's right that parents should be able to choose the moment at which their children become exposed to that information. "And there are steps taken to enable parents to withdraw their children from classes up to a certain age." https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5549/...0a31a481_m.jpg Gay MP LLyod Russell-Molye was not happy and had a go at her in the Commons over her words. Lloyd Russell-Moyle criticised Andrea Leadsom after she said parents should decide when their children were "exposed" to the lessons. He also attacked "bigots that don't want LGBT people to be heard in schools". Some Birmingham schools have stopped LGBT rights classes after protests. Parkfield Community School, in the city, said it would not resume the lessons until a resolution had been reached with parents. In a statement on Wednesday, the school said it was planning to "evolve" its equalities teaching "in collaboration with parents". https://5pillarsuk.com/wp-content/up...S173417288.jpg Those who are adamant that homosexuality is morally wrong strongly feel that the Equality Act should protect their religious beliefs. However, for the LGBT community, "alarmed" is the word often being used to convey feeling both here in Birmingham and around the country, and they believe their human rights are being abused by schools who have stopped teaching children about same sex couples. And now the row is spreading. In Greater Manchester, the BBC understands hundreds of parents have sent letters to schools asking for their children to be removed from sex education lessons. As the dispute escalates, so does the tension around this controversial topic. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-47643119 https://www.lbc.co.uk/radio/presente...-exposed-lgbt/ Did she have a point? |
the purpose of school education is to gain basic knowledge and understanding of the world so that people can take their place in society. Children can specialise later in their schooling, thats fine, but they should all get the fundamental basics.
It's not for me to define fundamental basics, that's what school boards and authorities are for, but once they have decided, there should be no exclusions from that curriculum. |
And she's right !! It is the parents right to say what their children should be subjected to

They can decide exactly. Just take your child out of school and live in a bubble

So she is basically saying that children don’t learn about it until they are of a suitable age anyhow.
Makes sense to me. I certainly wouldn’t want my kids growing up in ignorance of the reality and normality of LGBT. |

It's a big problem in an area with a high Muslim population. Moderate Muslims aren't as plentiful as they sometimes seem when it comes to dealing with homosexuality, women's right, that kind of thing.
|
Amir Ahmed, a lead campaigner for the parents, told Sima Kotecha: "Morally, we do not accept homosexuality as a valid sexual relationship to have."
Yikes |

Yes its their Religious beliefs you must know ,they can not change! |

the problem is not going to go away considering that orthodox Jews, Muslims and Christians reject contraception so seem to breed like rabbits and are bound to increase in numbers. |
What better way of creating the next generetation that believe homosexuality is still a taboo subject or something that is wrong because they were mollycoddled into thinking only straight relationships exist.

Nobody said the world around them has to revolve about their beliefs. Participate in public life according to secular law and in their community according to their religious laws. Simples. |

5 schools now in Birmingham have stopped the Outsiders curriculum, so in the UK where we welcome all, and you are free to be who you are it looks like we are going backwards https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2019/03/2...on-manchester/ |
