MP Dianne Abbott Drinks on the London Train - Illegal

https://storify.com/services/proxy/2...20AprilSun.JPG

[Diane Abbott 'sorry' for drinking
mojito on TfL train
The frontbencher received
supportive messages in reply
to her apology with one person writing:
"I've never felt more represented".
The snap of the shadow home secretary
began doing the rounds on Twitter
after it appeared in The Sun,
which showed her sipping from
a can of M&S mojito on a Transport
for London Overground train - which is banned.
The Labour frontbencher tweeted
an apology for drinking the minty
alcoholic beverage, which is made
with white rum and lime flavours.]

Drinking a can of mojito on a train being front page news is embarrassing.

Oh who cares.

Is she a terrible Shadow Home Sec? Yup.

Does she embarrass Labour whenever she's on tv? Often.

Is she a good local MP? Probably, she's been doing it for decades.

Does it matter if she had a drink on a train? Nope. Not unless she was abusive in her drunken state, which she wasn't.

if mp's dictate the way ordinary people behave, then they need to follow the same rules. It may not in itself be the biggest crime, but it's just another example of the hypocrisy shown by so many mp's

Absolute queen. It was a bank holiday and the sun was out. Normal queen

Sure but not on that Train Line
she is a MP
mean't to set a good example.

Marsh. 20-04-2019 04:25 PM

Hardly like she was drunk and disorderly. But hey if it distracts people from the real news it's serving its purpose.

Yeah I'm sure sipping on a beverage from M&S is the most illegal thing done by a politician this decade.

Meanwhile, in Parliament...

Finally, a relatable politician

I really can't wait for the new advert.

It wasn't just a canned cocktail... it was an M&S canned cocktail...

I actually didn't know it was illegal to drink on trains? Every train I have been on has had some peopl drinking as far as I remember, generally loud and lairy too which I doubt Abbott was. I also am fairly sure I remember some of the trains having a bar! Not a bar bar, but a little one, usually in 1st class..but available for all :S

On this TLR line
the ban has been going for 11 years

joeysteele 21-04-2019 06:47 AM

She isn't that bright.
Should have bought a bottle of other stuff, drank thst first then emptied this other drink into that bottle.
Suggesting it was only pop.

If anyone thinks people don't get around not legally drinking on trains, they are mistaken.
At least she did hers openly.
Although hardly the crime of the century.

I'm not going to condemn her on this.
Absolutely loads get away with this all the time.
It's a bit of a draft rule in my opinion anyway.

Everyone who travels regularly on London overground trains is well aware you can't drink on them. Like you can't drink on the Tube.

The woman is a liability. Forget drinking on a train, it's her political track that makes her look like the dickhead that she is. Like many politicians - on all sides - she'd never get a real job in the real world.

Cherie 21-04-2019 10:50 AM

There are signs up everywhere, if she wants to break the law that is up to her but its hard to take her seriously if its one rule for her and another for everyone else, I can't say in many years of travelling on London trains I have ever seen anyone drinking alcohol apart from very occasionally and they are usually drunk

Not sure anyone goes to that bother, most people travel with water it is so hot and crowded, why is it a daft rule? half the time you are standing on these trains so you don't want to be standing next to someone swigging alcohol, these are not leisure trains where you are sitting at a table and a bar on board, these are trains used to transport thousands of workers and tourists every day

A bit like when she attacked Blair and Harriet Harman for sending their kids to fee-paying schools... but keeping quiet about the fact she also sent her own son to a fee paying school to. Some animals are more equal than others.

Fair enough, have never been to London and just kind of assumed trains everywhere were the same

I agree shes a bit of a mess in general. However, I find the massive massive uproar about this incident to be a bit..over the top. But most criticisms of her seem to be generally. Shes a **** politician.no doubts about that, but the abuse she gets is..a bit much IMO

Ahh right. I get it. Its kind of like 'the metro' up here then, just presumably busier. Again, I hear train I think..well..proper train.
