DENTISTS! Anyone else petrified?

Absolutely petrified to the point where I haven't been for about 10 years and luckily haven't needed to. However, a small hole in my tooth which I've had for a few years but wasn't bothering me turned into the whole tooth crumbling over Christmas but I wasn't getting any pain so still left it.

This week though I've been getting extreme pain and I know I'll have to give in and go but I'm so scared :( It's not just a "don't like dentists" it's a genuine fear.

Anyone else like this with dentists?

montblanc 01-05-2019 08:34 PM

is there a reason you’re so scared :umm2:

i’m not scared at all it’s just a chore going :skull:

RileyH 01-05-2019 08:34 PM

my dentist is gorgeous so am fine with ha fingering my mouth

Amy Jade 01-05-2019 08:35 PM

I used to be but after I got braces it was just meh get on with it.

I go free though so I go every 6 months, if only go when I needed to otherwise!

Liam- 01-05-2019 08:40 PM

I’m not scared of going, but once I’m there and in the waiting room, being able to hear like, the drills and stuff being used freaks me right out

Dogeatdog 01-05-2019 08:43 PM

I’m not scared of going either. I had to have two fillings and a tooth taken out when I was younger so I never really had a fear of going as I got older.

I used to shake just taking the kids for their check ups.
Ended up pulling some of my teeth out myself when needed.
I can remember the dentist coming out and giving me a calming cuddle in a full waiting room when he took two of my son’s teeth out, quite embarrassing, but very understanding dentist.

This doesn't surprise me at all

thisisdanny 01-05-2019 08:47 PM

I'm hoping the pain will go away but I can't see it happening

montblanc 01-05-2019 08:47 PM

it's time to go to them

LaLaLand 01-05-2019 08:49 PM

I don't like going but it's better to than leave it.

I left my teeth go really bad when I was very ill with anxiety/depression (I was a recluse basically), the meds I was on killed nerves in my teeth and rotted around some fillings I already had and I ended up having abscesses... Nothing a dentist will do to you will be as painful as that trust me!!

I ended up having 4 teeth out and 4 fillings in one sitting last September and it was a breeze and kind of did away with any of my nerves about dentists! Just the injections that stung a bit and then lots of tugging :laugh2:

Avoid them

Money greedy pigs

Cherie 01-05-2019 08:55 PM

I hate the thought of going, but it’s okay once I’m there, if they could do away with the drill noises it wouldn’t be so bad,

Yeah, from what you mentioned, it sounds similar to something I had and the pain got worse and I ended up needing to have a root canal, so it would be best to get it seen to asap :worry:

MTVN 01-05-2019 09:01 PM

I'm not particularly scared of them but I do find the whole thing pretty horrible.. some bloke sticking his hand in your mouth and the drill against your teeth when that needs doing and last time I was there they scraped away some plaque which made me wince a bit. I can't imagine actually being a dentist, you have to inflict so much pain and you see people in such a vulnerable state :worry:

Beso 01-05-2019 09:02 PM

I've just lost my balls up inside my body.

I haven't had stabbing pain for about 20 minutes

I'm CURED

Strictly Jake 01-05-2019 09:39 PM

Not scared of them but haven't been for 4 years if not more. Just because I begrudged paying 20 quid for them to check my teeth which are fine. They are still fine without going to the dentist

caprimint 02-05-2019 01:17 AM

It's the thing I'm scared of the most honestly

THIS!

And when I had to get my wisdom tooth removed last year I had to go to multiple appointments within the span of like 2-3+ months it was a mess :skull:

...I know it’s going to be really scary for you, Danny...but once you have been this one time you’ll realise that actually there’s nothing at all to fear...whatever is needed to be done to repair your teeth, will all be done pain free...and hopefully you’ll really feel liberated that you’ve gone and that you’re on the way to healthy teeth and that you’ve achieved something very huge for you...good luck, you’ll be fine ......you’ll get there and then you’ll know there’s nothing to fear for next time...let us know how you get on, yeah....

Vanessa 02-05-2019 07:46 AM

Absolutely petrified D::bawling:

Crimson Dynamo 02-05-2019 07:59 AM

I have had so much bloody pain at the dentist i cant think thre is anything else left that they could do, I figure once you have had a million injections int YOUR GUMS and your neves scarped out or fillings with NO pain relief you can face anything

Cherie 02-05-2019 08:21 AM

Its better to go now Danny and when you are pain free than going when in pain, make that appointment

Livia 02-05-2019 09:31 AM

I hate the dentist. No one really likes it, surely. My brother, however, has a real phobia. I remember when he was young and a motorcycle courier, he delivered a package to a dentist in Wimpole Street, got a whiff of the dentist smell and passed out.

I had a dentist break a drill on my tooth during a root canal. It's still in there... he just kind of filled over it, but you can see it on x-rays. And he was bloody Scottish... I think he did it on purpose.

bots 02-05-2019 10:16 AM

i avoided the dentist for years, because as a kid, the dentist i had was dreadful. Eventually I plucked up the courage and found a really good one. I don't have any fear going to him now and i've had some serious work done without issue

Kazanne 02-05-2019 10:26 AM

I have the dentist this afternoon, not keen on it but I hate nasty looking teeth, hopefully it will just be a clean and polish, even that always makes my gums bleed.

Josy 02-05-2019 10:43 AM

I have a phobia about it and I mean like to the point I shake, sweat, feel sick and dizzy etc and that's before I even set foot in the place, luckily for me and my gnashers though I am with a dental practice that specialise in dealing with nervous patients, they are actually amazing at what they do.

Good luck Danny

My brother is the same, his face visibly whitens if you even mention the dentist. Lucky for him he has good teeth, but when he has to have a filling he has a general anaesthetic. And of course it gives me a golden opportunity to call him a pussy. I'm his sister, that's my job.

Barry. 02-05-2019 04:34 PM

Not really Danny but it feels like you should go.

I'm the same really, even thinking about making the appointment I actually cry and feel dizzy. Sounds ridiculous but it's a huge genuine fear :bawling: There's no way I'll be going on my own though, I'll have to take my mam :joker:

Pain hasn't been too bad today though. Uncomfortable but not painful, but I'm starting to accept it needs sorting.

Yeah it is best to get it sorted

Do you have a dentist near you that specialises in nervous patients? If you could register with a practice like that it would make the experience so much better for you.
