Twitter hate mob accuses John Cleese of racism for saying London is a global city
Quote:
It's a bit silly to accuse John Cleese, who openly dislikes Trump, the Tories, and the Daily Mail and who votes for the Lib Dems of racism. But no. He voiced the same opinion as Sadiq Kahn (that London is a global city) using different phraseology, and he's nothing but an evil gammon.... Of course. |
It's not an English city anymore.
When I was in Rome last week the thing that struck me is the amount of Romans there. There were Italians working as waiters, in the shops, in our hotel... everywhere. I saw only a handful of Muslims who looked like tourists. The difference between Rome and London was shocking. |
Cleese didn't even say he thought it was a bad thing, people need to get a grip.

And all large cities in UK voted to remain not just London

Just because the city is multicultural, doesn’t mean it’s not an English city.. it’s doesn’t change its geographical location because it has a load of foreign people living there.
Those foreigners taking our cities :fist: |
But the majority of people voted leave.

I don't think the people specified how they want to leave so |

The hate is silly but so is the original quote. The UK has always been a multicultural country ever since we rose up from mud shacks. The Anglo Saxons, Romans and the Vikings all left their marks on the country and our development into who we are now and the empire made us a global presence which also brought a lot of people from around the globe to the UK. UK culture taking on aspects of other cultures has been a part of the UK's DNA for pretty much the entirety of our growth as a nation.
|
London was not always multi cultural, that is just plain wrong. Even in my lifetime it was not multi cultural. Yes, there may have been people from overseas, that doesn't mean the basic english culture was changed. Now, in London, it's all become integrated and intermingled, which I think is a good thing, but that simply wasn't the case a few years ago

You cant somehow compare aggressive war invasions thousands of years ago to what has happened bin the last 40 years with mass unrestricted immigration.
Go look at some YouTube videos of London in the 7os, I would post some but am mobile, and you will see Cleese is right |

If you go back 40 years before the 70s you'll see it's completely different again. |

John Cleese is right ,go into any city or large town ( esp in the north) and you will see that he's right ...and London is out of control now
|
Whats an English City? when Chicken Tikka Masala is the most popular dish in the country, the corner shop is now a British tradition and the children of the Windrush generation are having children of their own.

Every morning when I get on the tube I’m the only beautiful blue eyed Brit on the carriage. I like it. I feel so special.

I like it, I’ve met many friends in London from other countries such as Italy, Sweden, France, Germany and America, all of whom are very friendly, lovely and working incredibly hard towards their future careers and are paying their way with their university fees :)

...it’s an English city that embraces multi culture and to describe it as global surely is a good thing ...as Girth said...what is an English city...?...it’s a blend of all the cultures who live there...and London is a leading example of the diversity a city should have...
|
I’d rather live in a city with a load of friendly foreigners than a bunch of racist white folks

To say you'd prefer hateful racists over friendly people just because of their skin colour or nationality.... Grim. |
I wouldn't live in any city, they're made of headaches ... but I'm a countrysider pretty much.
I'd live in a village or small town regardless of who the people were, as long as it had a good community |
|
Cleese is right. My whole family has slowly moved out of east London, my father's side had been there for generations, but now they've gone along with all the other white people. The BBC made a programme about it, "The Last Whites of the East London", it makes for uncomfortable watching, especially if you think I'm a racist just for saying this. . I look at pictures of when I was at school, there was a good mix of people, black, white, Asian... if you look at a picture of the school now there are no white faces at all. I'm told by liberals that people want to live with their own communities. And that's fine, so long as those people who want to live in their own communities aren't white people, because then they're called racists twats.
So everyone here saying London is vibrant and multicultured (it used to be, now it's a foreign city, pretty much), I hope your own area is taken over as quickly as mine was. Then come back and tell me you love it. |
