I want Tom Holland to be portrayed as gay

Oliver_W 30-06-2019 01:16 PM

Good for Tom <3

Though it should be something that just is, there shouldn't be a sappy storyline about it, just have it so he happens to have a bf/be interested in a dude.

Liam- 30-06-2019 01:20 PM

That would be great actually

We don’t want an emotional coming out though, just have him dance with a guy at a graduation party or something

What’s pathetic is being that bothered by someone’s sexuality

It's a superhero movie, any and all romance plots will be sappy.

Marsh. 30-06-2019 01:29 PM

Here for ginger Derek J Watson.

Wizard. 30-06-2019 01:38 PM

Let's start getting gay actors in though shall we?

Only if they're the best fit for the role - if actors had the match their roles' sexualities, Broadway would close down!

Tom Holland used to do ballet, so he's probably gay.

Liam- 30-06-2019 01:46 PM

I don’t believe gays should be shoehorned into roles just cause they’re gay, if they’re the best person for the role and happen to be gay then fine

I don’t think Tom Holland personally requesting to include LGBT characters in lead roles is anything to do with him wanting a bigger pay cheque

Tell me where in that article it says Disney want Spider-Man to be gay.

Tom4784 30-06-2019 02:08 PM

I actually wouldn't want Peter Parker to be gay tbh, it's not who he is and it would feel a bit shoehorned at this point. I've never liked it when a character is retconned to be a different sexuality, I'd much rather they use a character that's always been that sexuality and give them equal representation instead.

Northstar, Wiccan, Hulkling. These are three characters they could easily use if they want a gay superhero in the MCU and the last two are part of the Young Avengers which is rumoured to be in development and those two characters have quite a fervent fanbase. I want LGBT characters in the MCU but I don't want characters altered for the sake of it and I don't want them to be tokens either. Give an existing marvel comic LGBT character as much spotlight as the other heroes on screen for more than just their sexuality. That's how you do representation right.

Hollywood is a money thing.

I don't see any issue with a NEW Peter Parker being gay, but the current one has already had female love interests so he would surely be bisexual . You could argue that he was in the closet but that's not how it's portrayed in Homecoming at all; he's definitely into the Vulture's daughter.

I am getting some serious BFF vibes between him and MJ in the MCU though, I'm not seeing that turning into a convincing relationship.

Just because it’s fine to be gay now doesn’t mean we have to make everything gay.

Didn’t imply that at all.
Just that we don’t have to make everything (Spiderman) gay.

How is Peter Parker being gay "everything"?

:eyes: When 99% of onscreen representation is heterosexual comments like that are laughable.

Tom4784 30-06-2019 08:58 PM

Tell me, how many LGBT characters are there in the MCU? I find the whole 'stop making everything gay' argument silly when you consider that there are no openly LGBT characters in the MCU. Valkyrie was meant to be but since they removed all mention of it then she doesn't really count.

Ant. 30-06-2019 09:00 PM

First they made Captain marvel a woman and NOW they want to make Spiderman gay?!?!!

Political correctness gone mad, busy pandering to snowflakes I see :idc:

There's only that one character in Endgame and I think that's it.

Captain Marvel is female in the comics.

I'm aware

But people still complain that 'he' was turned into a woman and that they're pandering

Liam- 30-06-2019 09:07 PM

Tom probably just wants an excuse to get off with Jake Gyllenhaal

Yeah, I've heard there's gonna be a gay hero in Eternals and if Young Avengers ends up being a thing then they could have two as well.

Considering the runaway successes of both Captain Marvel and Black Panther, I'm surprised they haven't fast tracked a film with an LGBT hero yet.

Who would they be?
Ironically I really like DC Comics and not the movies, but I love the MCU movies and I'm neither here nor there on the Marvel Comics.
