Polish/Eastern European restaurants

Would anyone dare to eat at one of these places?

Barry. 26-11-2019 07:14 PM

Why not?

GiRTh 26-11-2019 07:16 PM

Why not? By law, any place that serves food has to maintain a Food standard rating tests being conducted on a random basis, so I have no idea why someone wouldn't eat at a restaurant if they had a good rating

Some of the best meals i have ever eaten have been in eastern europe

The prejudice jumped out?

Niamh. 26-11-2019 07:51 PM

Why not? What's the "dare" about?

Barry. 26-11-2019 10:15 PM

Isnt this kind of discriminating?

Mystic Mock 27-11-2019 12:53 AM

I'm always up for trying new Cuisines.

When I read "would you dare...?" it reminded me of some of the ghastly concoctions we were forced to endure at mealtimes in Bulgaria. I remember all the Brits queuing up in the morning for the toaster, clutching our bit of hard bread, lumps of margarine floating in a bowl of water... unidentifiable meat... I still have flashbacks. That said, there are quite a few Polish restaurants in my local towns and I've only heard good things.

Tony Montana 27-11-2019 04:55 PM

Why not? First time for everything.

Crimson Dynamo 27-11-2019 04:57 PM

Nope not a chance

Ammi 28-11-2019 07:13 AM

...we had a lovely Polish lady, bake some gorgeous Christmas treats for us once...they were delicious...and all had meaning from what I recall.....that’s the thing about so much food around the world, the special meanings of eating dishes....why would anyone choose not to eat at a Polish or Eastern European restaurant for the reason that they don’t ‘dare’, Redway...?...

Kizzy 02-12-2019 12:29 AM

The xenophobia is real. Yes I would of course :/

I've been to Hungary and the food was really good I thought, Goulash is one of their most famous dishes I suppose. I was in Bulgaria too but it was in one of those beach resort type places so it wasn't proper bulgarian food I'd imagine, just the usual crap you'd get in a similar place in Spain or Portugal really so i don't count that

Crimson Dynamo 03-12-2019 04:02 PM

Sauerkraut is finely cut raw cabbage that has been fermented by various lactic acid bacteria. It has a long shelf life and a distinctive sour flavor, both of which result from the lactic acid formed when the bacteria ferment the sugars in the cabbage leaves.

Would you try Ukrainian by any chance Liv?

I just can’t see Polish as a takeaway option. “I’ve not got much in now until the big shop on Saturday, still. Fancy ordering some Polish? Ger a bi. of Polish in for the match?” “We’re ’avin. Polish tonight and that’s that. We can have Chinese next Saturday.”

Five years later I still think the same thing. I just wouldn’t.

Glenn. 03-02-2025 03:16 AM

Have you tried it?

I don't believe that I have ever tried Polish food tbh.

So I'll have to take your word for it.

Beso 03-02-2025 09:03 AM

Yes, I would give it a go, I'm assuming its meaty..

Only thing I wouldnt try is African food after being at a house party and seeing half cooked chicken being stored in a bin.

Crimson Dynamo 03-02-2025 09:28 AM

most Supermarkets have a Polish section so its widely available popular food

bots 03-02-2025 12:45 PM

we have had a large polish population since the 2nd world war so their food influence has been fully integrated into british cuisine.

Glenn. 03-02-2025 12:47 PM

I’ve had a polish stew before and that was really nice. Can’t remember what it was called though.

You went to one party and encountered one instance of bad culinary hygiene. Hardly speaks for the whole of a continent’s cuisine.

I’m having jollof coconut rice for tea. Enjoy your haggis.

My goodness dear boy, where on earth did I do that?

I merely said I wont try african food again after that bad experience....all I would be able to think about is that bin of half cooked chicken..

A bit like a bad school experience involving liver or something....

So please dont stereotype me, cause I don't do it to anyone.
