Should the next Lara Croft tomb raider be man?

Should the next Lara Croft be a man? I think it would be very 2020. I think we need strong male characters....

A joke obviously but ask that same question to the feminists who want a female Bond

Niamh. 16-01-2020 11:16 AM

Do feminists want a female Bond or is that some sort of hyperbolic statement anti feminists shout because they heard one person say this somewhere, sometime? I only ask because it really isn't something I've heard people talk about much, unlike the black Bond discussion for example

arista 16-01-2020 11:18 AM

No

A lot of people do talk about it, yes. So much so the long term producer has had to say in a statement that bond will never be a woman. I just think in these days of equality, things should be equal. So if people were asked if they wanted Lara Croft to be a man what would they say?

Literally never heard anyone ask about a female Bond but if you say so..........

Answer to the OP, No Bond is male and Lara is female..........Yes to black Bond or Lara though

James Bond should be a man and Lara a woman yes. I was being sarcastic

Trust me lots of people are wanting a female bond. Its been mentioned since the announcement of the female doctor

Nicky91 16-01-2020 11:27 AM

No, most definitely not, and please let it be Alicia Vikander for few more movies, i quite liked her in the most recent tomb raider

Just because the question arose, doesn't mean "feminists" are demanding this. Lots of questions are asked of film producers

Josy 16-01-2020 11:31 AM

Nope

Kizzy 16-01-2020 11:31 AM

I thought the whole point of lara was she is a female protagonist... if she's made a man then it's just another testefest film isn't it?

Yes, I think the point of the thread was to bash feminists though rather than seriously ask the question?

Liam- 16-01-2020 11:34 AM

Literally nobody has asked for a female Bond lmao

Ah right... there could be a female bond though, he's just a spy, there are female spies I don't see the problem.

But yeah some can't even get their had around bond not being white so the suggestion of a women would literally blow minds

Saph 16-01-2020 11:41 AM

we got a female doctor who and it was **** so no I dont think we need a female bond

its a tired old franchise anyway

He's a male character in the books though so I think he should stay male....hate the character anyway, he was always a bit of a sexist chauvinistic character, hopefully they've updated him a bit in the newer films

Liam- 16-01-2020 11:47 AM

James Bond is James Bond, you cant have a female James and you can’t change the franchise name just for the sake of being woke because it might not work ‘Bond... Jane Bond’

However saying that, Tomb Raider could possibly be a man, because the franchise is Tomb Raider, it’s not essentially based entirely around the main star, it could be interchangeable

Yeah that's true enough, when I think of her I think of her as a female Indiana Jones anyway (even though they're not connected)

'I'm Bond, Sheila Bond'

Nah

Kizzy 16-01-2020 12:01 PM

It was just a suggestion, I find bond films old fashioned, sexist and a stale format. A female hero is new, fresh and perfectly legitimate.

Beso 16-01-2020 12:24 PM

A female james bond would end up pregnant in every film the amount of shagging bond does

Tom4784 16-01-2020 12:36 PM

So.... Indiana Jones?

The whole idea that feminists are demanding a female bond is just hysteria from people who want to paint feminists as being ridiculous while at the same time deriding the idea of racebending James Bond.

James Bond should always be a man, his entire character revolves around it really. He's a chauvinistic womaniser after all. I think the only thing that would piss off people who are upset about James Bond being black or a woman more would be if they turned him into a lesbian.

Tom4784 16-01-2020 12:37 PM

What they should do instead is come up with a female spy character that can have her own franchise that doesn't live in the shadow of James Bond.

Black Widow?

LukeB 16-01-2020 02:40 PM

There's been no calls for a female James Bond tbh.

It was on the news earlier that the Film franchise have had to come out and make a statement after multiple calls for a female Bond. First I've heard of these "calls" but googled it and this article came up.

This is good news :

However, it does seem like the Bond franchise is evolving regarding its callous treatment of women overall. Ana de Armas, who plays new character Paloma in the upcoming No Time to Die, has said the latest installment is “another step toward giving women a more powerful and strong place in the films.” There were rumors that costar Lashana Lynch was being set up as the next Bond, but the trailer revealed that she’s actually playing a 00 agent in her own right who can more than keep up with Bond.

Plus, Fleabag auteur Phoebe Waller-Bridge was brought on to the writing team, saying explicitly that her focus was on making sure the franchise “treats the women properly.”

Scarlett. 16-01-2020 04:28 PM

Well we're getting Uncharted with Tom Holland and Nathan Drake is pretty much a male Lara lol

Amy Jade 16-01-2020 04:34 PM

No!

The joke doesn't really work because there's no shortage of strong male characters and no one is really "calling" for a female Bond.

But the fact it's sh*t has nothing to do with the doctor being a woman though so it's not really the point.
