I’m always too scared to play Resident Evil games but this does look good. What RE games do you recommend on PS4?

The only thing that concerns me is how many resources from this game will be used in the RE4 remake

But yeah, it looks fantastic. I'm a bit saddened that Capcom have said that it's more action-y since I think RE's recent renaissance came from a return to horror in RE7 and 2 and I hope they don't stray too far from horror again but everything about that trailer was intriguing. I imagine the more supernatural elements will alienate the fans that are determined to hate RE7 but I really like it especially since you know that it's all going to be psychological rather than supernatural.

I still need to finish RE:7 :joker:

No Too Dark

Bad in the Dark.

Does it ever go in Daylight?

Stu 22-01-2021 06:42 AM

I found 7 genuinely distressing.

I was so happy they moved onto the style they did in 7, following 6 the series was in a bad position

Hmm, were you playing with or without HDR on? You should adjust the brightness settings in options

Tbf Resident Evil in it's inception has always blended Action with Horror, Resi 8 is just going back to the first 3 & Code Veronica's style in a more modern format by the sound of things.

And about the players that will hate the Supernatural elements of the story, I never understand why people pick a Game with Zombies and all sorts of other monsters if they don't want that kinda element in their Video Games?:joker:

And for me personally I love all of the Resident Evil Games that I've played, even 5 & 6 as they're well made Games still imo, even if the Horror content in them are incredibly low.

I am with you though Dezzy that the trailer looks good.

I agree on 5, I still think its a fun game and I enjoyed it a lot at the time... It just isn't actually scary at all, but otherwise I think it's a good game.

6... I think has design and pacing problems that go beyond that and make it a definite dip in quality for the series. It has some sections that are great, but far too many that aren't.

Scarlett. 22-01-2021 09:20 AM

I really enjoyed Resident Evil 5, despite the fact it was completely action, it was still well-made and had fun modes. RE6 was... disappointing, it threw too many things at the wall, and none of them stuck.

After 6, they needed to dial everything back, I really enjoyed RE7's more local scenario, instead of a worldwide threat, it was a more personal story.

I agree with your assessment on 5.

My biggest issue with 6 personally was sometimes playing the same levels out with different characters, I remember the boss fight on the rooftop where I had to take it on in both Jake & Chris's mode which was deeply frustrating.

I did really enjoy Leon & Jake's modes overall though, and Ada's bonus mode was great I thought.

I think what Resi 7 benefited from was having a brand new protagonist as it gave the franchise a more fresh perspective I think which was needed in the franchise.

That worked really well too, it helped that he was an everyman, who had never been in a situation like this before, it helped harken back to the days of old. I wonder if Ethan is more battle hardened in RE8?

I agree Scarlett.

I would imagine so, because the events in his first Game will have probably toughened him up for his second Game I reckon.

And it looks like Ethan and Chris weren't fully seeing eye to eye on one of the trailers too which is interesting to me.

Tom4784 22-01-2021 03:34 PM

The showcase outside of the Village stuff was utter dirge but Village is looking excellent. RE7 for me, was a top tier RE game, and so I'm excited to see what they do next. I'm planning on getting a PS5 sometime in April so this game will be a Day 1 purchase when it's released a while later.

I think I believe Capcom said at some point that Chris trains Ethan between the games, so that's why Ethan seems a lot more capable this time around.

Scarlett. 22-01-2021 08:21 PM

I imagine by this point he's been recruited into Blue Umbrella, by Chris

user104658 23-01-2021 11:44 AM

I have STILL never finished Resi 7 :joker:. I might plough through it for the story on PC, throw an infinite ammo trainer on it or something so I can just blitz through... I was enjoying the story more than the gameplay. I'm not actually the biggest fan of the switch to first person, I wish they'd gone back to Over The Shoulder like the REmakes.

Good luck :joker: I've all but given up hope, they're being scalped by shopping bots... it'll be impossible to get one until the market is saturated. Might be OK by April I guess!

Honestly at this point if big PS5 exclusives start coming out I might just pay over the odds :worry:. I hate enabling scalpers though.

I might buy one from a scalper then petition it on eBay, put a crack in the plastic on the back or summat (purely cosmetic) and then ask for a partial refund :hehe:.

*disclaimer: obviously I would NEVER actually commit such fraud.

There was a PS4 gameplay video released a few days back.

It doesn't look like a massive downgrade from the next gen footage we've seen so it'll probably be an option if you don't have a PS5 by then, plus I think they've already said a free upgrade will be included so you'll be able to upgrade when you do.

As for getting a PS5, my advice would be to watch out for Argos, I got mine from there and it was pretty easy, plus they offer same day delivery for like £3.

Likely differences will be lower framerate and fewer/lesser lighting effects; we're only in "early days" new console territory, the devs take a while to catch up and we won't see the full potential of the PS5 for another couple of years.

As far as I can tell it's just the exact same flavour of RE Engine as Resi 7 so if you were happy enough with how that looked/played on PS4, this is going to run exactly the same. On PS5 it'll be the same but with a few extra bells and whistles. We won't see big differences on the PS5 until games are being built for next-gen game engines (so probably no last-gen version at all).

One thing you have to watch with that is that not every game has transferrable saves when you upgrade from PS4 to PS5... it's hit and miss, some have it and some you'd need to start again from the beginning. Also trophies don't transfer between versions (if such things are important to you) so if you get say 30% of a game's trophies on PS4, then the other 70% after transferring the save to PS5, you won't get 100%/the platinum... you'll have to replay the start of the game to get the other 30% of the trophies.

I played the Re:Verse beta today, it's utterly terrible.

It's a shame they abandoned Resistance so quickly, they'd have been better off shipping an upgraded Resistance with Village than that dirge Verse ****.
