Muslim Are Upset Their Eid Has Been Locked Down

How dare the government specifically target areas with high Muslim populations just as Eid is about to start.

They would not do this on Christmas Eve.

I think what this Pandemic has taught us is that selfishness isn't specified to any religion, race or ethnic group, it's pretty widespread across the board.

Exactly so why are they locking down the areas with high Muslim populations in the North!!!

We should all be following the same rules, we are all the same, we can all contract it as easily.

I can only see that this action is specifically made to target muslims and their eid.

Sure they are Upset
but agree its more important to Stay Alive

I honestly don't think anyone is being 'targeted' muslims included, large gatherings in close proximity are still 'banned'. It would help if you provided a link to this story though as im just going off your OP atm.

..the Independent have a good article about this with Matt Hancock thanking the Muslim community for making the changes to their practises this year...it’s obviously not the ideal for anyone atm for many reasons but the sacrifice appears to have been made very willingly by the Muslim community......

Muslims around the world have started the holy month of Ramadan under lockdowns aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The holy month typically sees a day-long fast followed by lavish meals and get-togethers in the evening with friends and family, but this year many people have been confined to their homes and mosques have closed.

Worshippers have been told to pray at home during the holy month.

On Thursday, the health secretary, Matt Hancock, thanked Muslims for their “sacrifice”.

”This Ramadan, many Muslims who serve their country in the NHS and in the armed forces, and in so many other ways, will not be sharing the joy of this month as they normally do,” he said.

“I want to say to all British Muslims, thank you for staying at home. I know how important the daily Iftar is, how important communal prayers are at night and how important the Eid festival is.

“Thank you for making major changes to these vital parts of your practice and I want to say to you all Ramadan Mubarak. And thank you for your service and citizenship and thank you for your sacrifice.”

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) has urged the faithful to “pray at home and share Ramadan digitally”.

It published guidance saying ”will be a very different experience for Muslims” this year “as we adapt to changing circumstances during the Covid-19 pandemic”.

It said it was unlikely there will be “congregational acts of worship for Muslims outside of the home” as mosques remain closed.

Those celebrating were instructed to follow the government’s social distancing rules by sharing meals ending fasting (Iftar) with family over FaceTime rather than in person.

People have also been advised to be mindful in their shopping habits, planning meals in advance to limit the number of trips, and avoiding stocking up to “allow for everyone to acquire that they need”.

East Lancs/West Yorks are being locked down because of the rising numbers of infections in these areas.

Also, I'm not making any proper plans for Christmas or New Years this year, it's not very likely we will be able to hold them as we usually do.

What about all the weddings that are now cancelled ..

Good article.

Makes it pretty clear no one or body is being victimised, the muslim community on the whole are sensibly following the governments guidelines and advice. So not sure what the OP is talking about tbh?!

...some really helpful videos also being made for the Muslim community, with praying Eid at home advice...

This article relates to the EiD at the end of Ramadan, breaking of the fast

This second EiD is a ‘lesser’ celebration and happens two months after main EiD

Know my EiDs :smug:

And yet other religions did the same when Churches were closed and various celebrations couldn't take place during lockdown. So wtf are you on about specifically targetting muslims.

It's not in good faith; he's either saying muslims don't want to abide by the rules, or they get special treatment, neither of which are true.

What are you talking about? Im say that the government are specifically locking down only areas that have high muslim populations just as Eid is about to start.

It is not fair.

And the Muslims are not happy, their voices need to be heard.

Sounds to me like the Muslim communities are happy to follow the governments advice and abide by the rules put in place.

Really not seeing the issue here? Of course some people wont be happy about being restricted, people from all walks of life and religion. You will always get people moaning or flouting the current rules, but it's not limited to any religion or race from what i've seen.

The virus doesn't care what religion you follow  it is a shame this lockdown has had to happen, but would you rather the Eid celebrations went ahead and the infection spread further?

Religious celebrations arent going to be the same for a long time.

All im saying is it should be 1 rule for all, and not a separate rule specifically targeting our muslim brothers and sisters during their current celebrations.

...I don’t think the Muslim community feel they're being targeted in any way with the new restrictions...nothing about the situation is ideal and it won’t be ideal for them but they’re adapting as all religions are and their celebrations will continue but will changed somewhat...

But they're not? Blackburn was locked down recently and its quite clear the measures didn't work as well as they'd hoped as it now seems to be spreading to neighbouring areas.

Easter was a wash out for Christians across the world and I suspect Christmas will be a non social event this year. China locked down during Chinese new year so I think the world is being affected equally

UserSince2005 31-07-2020 05:18 PM

Christine Hanna said: "Why didn't they do it sooner, so unfair for those celebrating Eid. It's like doing it on Christmas Eve for us. All preparations wasted."

Patricia McGlynn said: "What happens when Xmas is cancelled because ALL of us aren't trying to be careful ?????"

Sarah Kate Egan said: "I think it has been very cruel to the Muslim community who will have been preparing for Eid over the last few days. When most of the decisions to do with Covid have been made with weeks of notice before they come into play, this seems very cruel. I agree fast decisions and implications need to be made, but this was obviously being considered before last night and if it needed to happen should have been implemented sooner to give communities time to make changes and adapt to the changes."

UserSince2005 31-07-2020 05:19 PM

Janine Foster said:"The timing of the announcement is totally out of order. Could have been announced at the beginning of the week as it was obviously planned."

Craig Allison said: "Remember, it’s not safe to celebrate Eid but they want us all back to work now and school in 4.5 weeks! No wonder there’s no respect for the “rules” anymore. There’s not a scientist on the planet making all these caveats and distinctions.
Does anyone know anyone who’s been taken ill in these last couple of weeks?"

UserSince2005 31-07-2020 05:20 PM

Tania Maloney said: "We should either be put fully back into lockdown or not. These measures are ridiculous and difficult for people to follow."

Christine Crawshaw said: "Ridiculous cant see my family but can serve 100s of people over weekend with meals and drinks at work."

...the unfairness would be for lives to be lost from all religious communities because the restrictions weren’t put in place ...it’s not ideal because none of this is ideal...what about those who are in Spain and their flights have been cancelled...?...that’s not happening because they’re being targeted, it’s all happening to try to contain something...and for the good of everyone..?...some of those ‘comments’ are very Divisive, whether intentionally so or not...and really not helpful to the very un-ideal world we’re all finding ourselves in atm...

Yeah sounds like some are just flaming in order to score points. Faux outrage as per from a few looking for attention.

Its unfair for everyone who has to change their plans whatever they are, but they will get over it, and hopefully be around to celebrate at a later date
