NHS app, have you downloaded it

Apparently they have resolved the issue with it not picking up certain tests :skull:

A colleague downloaded it as she was going to Nandos, and got a text next day so now she has to self isolate for 14 days...

I wasn't going to bother with it if I am honest :omgno:

I have the Scottish one but the situation so far up here is slightly less dire. It's self-isolate for 14 days OR until you get a test, and so far we're not having the same problems with test availability as you have Darn Sarf, so it's really unlikely to be more than 2 - 3 days isolation (less for us as my wife is front line NHS, so we have access to testing pretty much instantly and then it's just the 24h wait).

In the absense of abundant testing capacity, it's just going to be a farce, half of England will be on 14 day isolation constantly and 99% of them won't have Covid.

Basically, a test and trace app is completely useless without quick and easy access to tests.

bots 28-09-2020 01:48 PM

no, i won't download it, heard about it matching people with walls between them

In terms of the tech, there's no way for it to tell the difference... it doesn't operate optically so it doesn't "know" if there's a solid object between app-users or not . That is a very good point.

Strictly Jake 28-09-2020 01:51 PM

I just dont trust any of the tracing apps. I dont even like location being turned on my phone. I just have a real issue with being watched. Never done anything wrong I just dont like the idea of the world turning into george orwells 1984 which is funnily ironic being on a forum dedicated to Big Brother

a shop worker that has covid, could be wearing a mask and behind a perspex sheet and you would still have to isolate

Crimson Dynamo 28-09-2020 01:57 PM

NO

I believe you have to be in proximity to them for something like 10 or 15 minutes so that's unlikely unless you've got a particularly large load of shopping. Likewise, it won't happen if you were to drive past someone in the street (lol).

However as an example, I live in a semi-detached house and it could in theory activate because of proximity to our neighbours through the wall - despite the fact that I can't ****ing stand them and haven't been within 10+ metres of them for over 5 years, other than with a wall between us :joker:.

She is working from home so she can continue to work, just can’t go out until she gets a test

Kazanne 28-09-2020 05:43 PM

Ive downloaded it ,

Dogeatdog 28-09-2020 05:44 PM

I got the text earlier but no I probably won’t download it.

MTVN 28-09-2020 05:44 PM

I would like to see us defeat the virus and return to some normality so yes

Kate! 28-09-2020 05:46 PM

Question.

If I download this app and get told to self isolate is it a rigid 14 day isolation or just till I get tested and get the all clear. Hopefully. ?

Josy 28-09-2020 05:49 PM

Nope.

MTVN 28-09-2020 05:52 PM

What's the reason for not getting it, an ignorance is bliss view that you don't want to know you've been exposed to a covid case? Even if that means you might now be an asymptomatic spreader?

Or is it some anti-government, 'Big Brother' thing?

thanks. I'm still quite reluctant to download it. It depends how long it would take to get a test. Probably ages. Sigh.

No its just purely cos I can't bear the thought of self isolating for two weeks.

DouglasS 28-09-2020 06:05 PM

I’ve not downloaded it but my flatmate has COVID and I’m self isolating so right now it has no purpose to me

Kizzy 28-09-2020 06:07 PM

No, you could potentially be off work for months...Go to work come in contact with someone, isolate go back and the next day get another text... Hang on... Maybe I'm being a bit hasty ;)

Would you rather stay in your workplace as normal when there's been a confirmed Covid case there?

Strange all I've heard about recently is how the government has failed in giving us a track and trace system but apparently people don't actually want one

Rishi Sunak is loving in it

joeysteele 28-09-2020 06:17 PM

Yes.
People cannot criticise even this awful government about not putting some effective tracking and tracing in place.
Then not use it once it's there.

This may not be the best there could be but it's something.
So in my view, for me, it should be supported.

Liam- 28-09-2020 06:18 PM

No, but purely because I’m living like a hermit right now because of my mum anyway

I don't want it, I've been working right through and we have had numerous employees getting positive results (also had a couple of deaths) yet we were told each time no one needed to isolate to continue working as normal etc

So I'm not isolating due to some random person testing positive that shopped in m&s the same day I did or similar

I'll continue to wear my mask/visor and take the precautions I've always taken

Crimson Dynamo 28-09-2020 06:34 PM

you only need to isolate if you have been in close proximity with someone within 2 days of when their symptoms started

It’s the fact that I can’t get a test...I don’t want to be imprisoned for weeks on end because I just happened to be in the vicinity on the rare occasion i do go out

Does it drain the battery in your phone faster?

But if you only go out on the rare occasion then a) you're very unlikely to come into contact with someone positive and b) isolating won't be that big a hardship surely?

This idea you'll continually be getting told to isolate isn't very likely, the chances of you having had prolonged contact with a positive covid case is still very low. I mean I must have given my details numerous times to different establishments since pubs and restaurants reopened and I'm yet to have a phone call :pipe2:

.

People are happy to slag off the test and trace system but not willing to aid it it seems to me.

i heard it was about a 5% overhead and you can disengage the tracking too when you don't want it on
