I knew this as she gave Captain Marvel a bad review or something

Oliver_W 04-10-2020 08:05 PM

Cool. I don't really know much about Ms Marvel, from what I gather she's basically Peter Parker but with Stretch Armstrong powers?

Shaun 04-10-2020 08:08 PM

super a****innoyin' in the game (or at least the beta i played)

She's not that bad as a character. Not great but not unbearable, got less annoying as it went on. Her powers/moveset isn't much fun but that's maybe a personal preference thing I dunno. She's a bit slow and ... erm ... "flailing" and I was maining Black Widow (speedy speedy fast paced combat).

...I can see the similarities in the characters, yes. And "Stretch Armstrong" is pretty accurate. She has the exact same abilities as Mr Fantastic from Fantastic Four as far as I could tell?

Tom4784 05-10-2020 03:07 PM

It's difficult to say whether it's a good choice or not since she's an unknown but I like the character and I hope they do her justice in screen.

One of my least favourite Marvel films, tbh. It just felt dated as hell (and not because it was set in the 90's), and the script was painful (I always cringe when I think about the 'cockpit' line). Few male writers can write feminism well without it feeling like pandering and that film felt like it pandered too much. Of course, this is me speaking as a man so take it how you will. I hope the sequel gets a female writer and director.

In terms of it feeling dated, I think the issue there was that it felt like a Phase 1 "origin movie" when the MCU was long past that. That said, I think it measures up well enough in comparison to those origin movies... just placed weirdly in the overall series because we didn't "know" her and the MCU was so established. It felt MUCH more organic with Spider-man and Black Panther being given a soft introduction in Civil War before their first solo. I think giving Capt. Marvel a larger intro in Infinity War/Endgame before her solo backstory might have been a better choice.

Oliver_W 05-10-2020 03:36 PM

A lot of the "non event" MCU movies just wash over me a bit. Like, they're all good, but not all memorable. The two Guardians of the Galaxy films and Thor 3 are the only ones that really stand out, the rest feel really cookie-cutter.

DouglasS 05-10-2020 03:55 PM

I feel like no one will want to watch this movie

Tom4784 05-10-2020 08:33 PM

I'm sure the racists will probably give it a miss.

user104658 05-10-2020 08:34 PM

I'm pretty sure it's a Disney+ series, not a movie?

Both Kamala and She-Hulk will eventually appear in the films though. I can see Kamala turning up in Captain Marvel 2.

Oliver_W 05-10-2020 08:59 PM

Are Ms and Captain Marvel connected at all in the comics? I could swear Ms Marvel was Jean Grey's original hero name?

Captain Marvel (Carole Danvers, that is) was originally called Ms. Marvel and she was the sidekick/spinoff character to the original Captain Marvel who was a male character. The original Marvel was pretty unpopular though while Ms. Marvel had a following so they gave her the Captain Marvel and the Ms. Marvel mantle went unused until Kamala Khan was created. Captain Marvel is basically her idol and they've interacted a fair bit in comics, I believe.

Jean's original hero name was Marvel Girl, close though.

I can’t wait for the tv shows

Nicky91 12-06-2022 04:29 PM

first episode is on Disney+ as of last wednesday

i'm going to watch that ep tonight, very perched for this, hyped up apparently as a crucial new superhero for Marvel's Phase 4

Nicky91 13-06-2022 07:32 AM

whew, great first episode

Spoiler:

definitely feels very refreshing, great acting work as well, love Matt Lintz in this too (Henry from The Walking Dead)

loved Abbu's (Kamala's dad) dress up as Hulk

AvengerCon, so she intended to dress up as Captain Marvel with a invention by Matt's character Bruno, but she forgot those gloves in the bathroom, apparently her powers are connected through her family bracelet

mid credits scene, for next episode - some agents have noticed her via surveillance camera footage and they want to bring her in to recruit her i guess

Nicky91 14-06-2022 01:27 PM

Spoiler:

episode 2 promo

Nicky91 16-06-2022 07:13 AM

episode 2

Spoiler:

seems like there is a curse with her bracelet (somehow connected to her greatgrandmother Aisha), and she is seeing hallucinations of some woman, and at the end of the episode when she got into Kamran's car, he introduces her to his mom and she looks exactly like the figure in her hallucinations

seems like the agents are Damage Control, and one of them is who we saw in spiderman: no way home

what we also saw in this ep, Kamala training her powers with help from Bruno, and Nakia running for the Mosque council

Nicky91 23-06-2022 07:34 AM

episode 3

Spoiler:

so revealed that Kamran's family are lost in time after having been exiled, Aisha was missing the moment when she and Kamran's mom went separate ways in the temple

the Damage Control agents raided the wedding ceremony of Aamir & Tyesha looking for Light Girl/Kamala (also a bit racist to go accusing a mosque of hiding a superhero when they only know what colour and probably know what religion she is from )

near the end of the ep, Kamala's best friend Nakia whom got into mosque council after winning the election, found out about Kamala's superpowers

and her Nani called and said Kamala had to immediately come to Karachi, after also having seen same vision about a train

this is sooooo enjoyable  also the bits of bhangra dancing :clap1: for a introduction series to go into Phase 4, pretty well made, lots of backstories all in all for each character close to Kamala

already hyped for next week's episode 4

Nicky91 30-06-2022 08:17 AM

episode 4

Spoiler:

lots of other MCU related easter eggs in this (bit of a X-Men reference and also a mention of Thor)

it seems the Clandestines/Djinns are from another dimension, another part of the multiverse i'm certain of that now

Kamala got to meet another group who call themselves Red Daggers

it ended with Kamala's bracelet being hit by a spear, and suddenly she found herself back in time during the time of the partition in Karachi

all in all, very great episode once again, very cool chase scenes too

more conversations between Kamala and her Nani

  Iman is a talented actress btw, has to be said

Nicky91 07-07-2022 07:26 AM

episode 5

Spoiler:

another fabulous episode, with a nice history lesson to begin with as well, about the events leading up to the great partition

and we found out how Aisha died, she gave Kamala a picture of her and Hasan for her to give to Sana (Kamala's Nani) in the present day, she got Sana reunited with Hasan with help of her powers, Hasan seeing those powers as well, understanding Aisha was right about the bracelet

back in present day, Najma sacrifices herself to close the portal and gives her powers to her son Kamran whom went to hide at Bruno's place but damage control found him and that ended in a cliffhanger for next weeks miniseries finale

oh and Muneeba and Sana found out Kamala is ''light girl'' and Kareem gave Kamala his red dagger scarf

 great series, very good filming work, proper acting work, love the music usage as well

amazing how you can put so much content into just 40 minutes

Nicky91 12-07-2022 07:30 AM

very educational this series has been for me as well

i really didn't know much about the Partition, and also this makes me kinda look differently towards british people in general, back in those times of 40-45

what a chaotic madness that was for people to rush to get on the trains, flee or otherwise get murdered and your homes set on fire

made me want to google it, here a wikipedia article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partition_of_India

Quote:

A study of the total population inflows and outflows in the districts of Punjab, using the data provided by the 1931 and 1951 Census has led to an estimate of 1.3 million missing Muslims who left western India but did not reach Pakistan.[102] The corresponding number of missing Hindus/Sikhs along the western border is estimated to be approximately 0.8 million.[146] This puts the total of missing people, due to partition-related migration along the Punjab border, to around 2.2 million.[146] Another study of the demographic consequences of partition in the Punjab region using the 1931, 1941 and 1951 censuses concluded that between 2.3 and 3.2 million people went missing in the Punjab.
that's so awful, so many people were reported missing :(

violence against women
Quote:

Both sides promised each other that they would try to restore women abducted and raped during the riots. The Indian government claimed that 33,000 Hindu and Sikh women were abducted, and the Pakistani government claimed that 50,000 Muslim women were abducted during riots. By 1949, there were legal claims that 12,000 women had been recovered in India and 6,000 in Pakistan.[148] By 1954, there were 20,728 Muslim women recovered from India, and 9,032 Hindu and Sikh women recovered from Pakistan.[149] Most of the Hindu and Sikh women refused to go back to India, fearing that their families would never accept them, a fear mirrored by Muslim women.
.

Nicky91 22-07-2022 08:02 AM

finished it last night

Spoiler:

looking forward to next year for the film The Marvels, with that ending bit

was a good last episode, the plan against Damage Control by Kamala, Bruno, Nakia, Zoe, Kamran gave me ''home alone'' vibes with the boobytraps

also Iman makes a strong acting debut here, for me up there with Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop

yes easily recommend it to many people, very good fun (much content in so little time, is amazing)

https://screenrant.com/ms-marvel-sea...disney-report/

reportedly renewed for a season 2 :)

Quote:

Just a few months after its acclaimed debut, Ms. Marvel season 2 has reportedly been confirmed by Disney+. The recent Marvel Cinematic Universe series marked the franchise debut of Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, the superhero-obsessed Pakistani-American teenager who gains her own superhuman abilities thanks to an ancient bangle with ties to her family's past. Ms. Marvel followed Kamala as she worked to get a handle on her newfound cosmic powers to become a hero for Jersey City, while also contending with the Department of Damage Control and the Clandestines.

Despite being hit with review bombing early in its run, Ms. Marvel scored largely favorable reviews from critics for its lighter tone, kinetic style, cultural authenticity and the performances from its cast, namely Vellani in the titular role. The Disney+ series is only the start for the character, as Vellani is confirmed to be returning for The Marvels alongside Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris, with the Ms. Marvel season 1 finale offering a tease of how it will tie in as Larson and Vellani's characters mysteriously switched places. With some wondering what the future may hold for the character after the film, Ms. Marvel fans may be getting exciting news.

A new report from Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman (via CBR) states that Ms. Marvel season 2 has been confirmed by Disney+. The reported renewal comes both a few months after the MCU show premiered on the streaming platform, as well as a week after the first footage for The Marvels, in which Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel is returning, was shown as the D23 Expo. Screen Rant reached out to Disney for comment, who neither confirmed nor denied Ms. Marvel's reported season 2 renewal.

It should be noted that without Disney or Marvel's official confirmation on the subject, the Ms. Marvel season 2 report could ultimately be debunked by the studio. Head writer Sana Amanat previously indicated that the MCU show was written as a "limited series" for the character to "go off and do other things," seemingly casting doubt on the show coming back for another chapter. Additionally, cinematographer Jules O'Loughlin has stated neither he nor director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy have heard of plans for a Ms. Marvel season 2, though noted Marvel Studios is often in flux on future plans and laying the groundwork for what comes next for their actors and crew.

For those who fell in love with season 1 of the series, the reported Ms. Marvel season 2 renewal should come as exciting news. Vellani herself received consistent praise for her uncanny adaptation of Kamala for the screen, and with the young actor just as eager about her MCU future, hoping for everything from a Wolverine crossover to a Spider-Man style character arc, one can hope she gets the opportunity to further explore her evolution with a season 2. In the meantime, audiences can revisit Ms. Marvel season 1 streaming on Disney+ and look forward to Kamala's next adventure with The Marvels hitting theaters on July 28, 2023.

but first the film The Marvels that is then
