Just thought it would be interesting to have a thread to discuss the England team/squad ... can’t find any other thread for this ..

Anyways ....

Nice to see John Stones finally showing his true class !!

Think he’s been back in the City team for the last 8 games ... 8 victories .

He’s also scoring goals as well !

Maybe the penny has finally dropped with him :)

Good to see both Mount and Maddison don’t well AND both scoring good goals at the weekend .

looking good atm isn't he, the ball from Kev for his header was world class, makes it look easy

Looking forward to see how Jack Grealish does tonight as Villa return after a Covid break .

Hopefully he’s still in form ..

Rice the future Captain?

Zizu 27-01-2021 05:58 PM

Burnley’s Pope should certainly be the England keeper ... still only 1:0 but he’s saved about 6 certain goals .. amazing

Maybe ..... I’m not a great fan but then again I prefer attack minded players ..

Everyone seems to be raving about him .. plus he’s Captain at 21 ..soooo

I’m now thinking that I’d like Dean Smith managing England ..

Imagine England playing as nicely as Villa do ..: midfield of Grealish , Maddison, Mount , Foden and Rice :)

Mmmm

Thinking that Dwight McNeil may also be in the kind of Southgate ..

Just watching how well Grealish and now Barkley for Villa are playing these days ..

Midfield options now

Grealish
Maddison
Mount
Foden
Henderson
Rice
Winks
Barkley

I’m sure there’s others ..

I’m liking Mings more and more these days as well .. even above Maguire

Shaw seems to be above Chilwell now I’m thinking

Rice has been MIA again today .. constantly fouling ( unpunished ) and nearly snapped Henderson on half with one of his late lunges

He’ll probably go and score two now but I just don’t see what all the fuss is about

i'll chat with you :wavey:

some new rising stars definitely in the squad, Bellingham, Sancho (both of Dortmund)

not much options though for goalkeepers, mostly relying on Pickford i see

I don’t think there will be room for Bellingham but Sancho has a chance ..

Sancho will be up against

Kane
Rashford
Watkins
Bamford
Sterling
Sancho
Calvert-Lewis
Greenwood
Wilson
Ings
Abraham

Vardy has apparently agreed to return IF England are desperate.. meaning if Kane is injured going into the Euros..

I’d ditch Pickford for Pope , Henderson and Heaton but Southgate is a stubborn beggar ...

Guess we should include Harvey Barnes in either as attack midfield or winger ??

Also Leeds holding midfielder Phillips

Update Arsenal’s Saka must be going as he can play at LB , anywhere in midfield plus both wings up front ..

Southgate also likes Ward-Prowse although he does nothing for me ..

Interestingly Ward-Prowse and Danny Ings were the BOTH rather embarrassingly involved in both of Southampton’s 9:0 massacres .

I suppose Liverpool’s Henderson and West Ham’s Rice are certain to get a place as they can both play midfield AND centre-back .. sadly that’s why Southgate will also include Eric flamin’ Dier :(

I’m not a great fan of defending or defenders but here goes ..

I’d certainly start with Stones and maybe Mings ( a right footer with a left footer) but Southgate will go with Maguire plus Keane .

Stones
Mings
Cody
Maguire

TAA
Shaw
James
Chilwell
Trippier
Walker

Creswell ?

Ben White ?

England has a good amount of great players and their qualification stages go well, but something happens at the actual competition and they somehow fold at some point.

I do hope that England wins when they're the hosts of EC or WC in the future.

Zizu 03-02-2021 05:07 PM

Jeez

Burnley just gifted Man City a simple goal with a blunder ..

That’s so true ... I recall they had a truly amazing squad a while back ..around the time of ManU glory days ..
I’m sure someone will be able to list the players :)

I’ve never been totally convinced about the kid but Foden is cementing his place in the England starting eleven today !!

Amazing performance

Sancho again very very important in the cup, was a match winner last night

i feel like he could become such a strong powerhouse for England too

Anyone watch Everton tonight ?

Wondering if Pickford continued to look like his old self again ??

He’s gone from being terrible to looking good again in the past two games ..

Liverpool’s Alison has gone the other way !!

Luke Shaw needs to be back in the squad. Easily our best Full Back at the moment.

Yep I’d agree ... we now have 4 options

Shaw , Chilwell , Cresswell and Targett from Villa

Cresswell seems to be good player.

Calderyon 08-03-2021 09:05 PM

England usually does have a lot of good choices for every position.

What about David Seaman?

Granted he did let in odd goals in his career.

Calderyon 08-03-2021 09:13 PM

Nowadays, maybe not.

MTVN 08-03-2021 09:30 PM

I don't think we're too bad at goalkeeper, should just pick Pope ahead of Pickford

CB is the weakest spot atm

Zizu 20-03-2021 07:11 PM

Holy moly... Sterling was poor in the bits I saw today ...

First he took a free kick ( god knows why ) and ballooned it well over the bar .. ( camera went to Pep looking disgusted) .

Then ten minutes later had an easy finish and as usual .. scuffled his shot letting the keeper save it .

I have Grealish well ahead of Sterling on the left for England
