Do you like liver and bacon with onions and mash.

Cooked correctly it could possibly be my last meal if I was ever going to be strung up in the morning for something I didnt do.

Crimson Dynamo 10-02-2021 07:10 PM

love it

Beso 10-02-2021 07:13 PM

Crimson Dynamo 10-02-2021 07:24 PM

My mum always tried with us too....she didn't like it so would make herself something that looked gorgeous and me and my brother would be sat at the table trying to come up with some way of getting rid of it without eating it. Dad loved it though so usually ended up helping us out when mum wasn't watching:laugh:

I usually chop my bacon into small pieces, fry that up with the onion. Seperetly, I brown some Cumberland sausages, liver and a bit of kidney, then add them to the bacon and onions then pour beef stock over it and season with salt, pepper and a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce, then stick it in the oven for 30 minutes. Finally I add gravy granules to thicken the gravy up to how I like it. Serve with Mash, peas, carrots and Yorkshire pudding.

Jobs a good en'

Niamh. 11-02-2021 09:10 AM

Never tasted it. My mom used to make liver when she was pregnant because back then it was supposed to be great to eat while pregnant but now it's a big no no I think

Alf 11-02-2021 09:14 AM

You can get some good liver, you can also get some very bitter liver, the one I get now is beautiful, but I have had it in the past when I haven't liked it.

Josy 11-02-2021 09:25 AM

No but my mum used to make it a lot for her and my dad

Josy 11-02-2021 09:27 AM

Also not liver but there was another meal my mum and dad used to have, none of us kids would eat it, some kind of fish cooked in milk yuck maybe some of you will know what it is

Nicky91 11-02-2021 09:30 AM

never had liver

but i do like bacon, as for onions and mash (well we dutch got a thing like stamppot which is potato mash, veg all in one)

beans, onions potato mash and bacon (mostly that for a great sauce)

bacon is also a great one to go with Sauerkraut mash, where you can get some of the bacon fat to make the mash more smooth

We have something similar in Ireland which is mashed potato and cabbage mixed in sometimes bacon and spring onions are added too

smudgie 11-02-2021 10:45 AM

Bacon yes, the rest no.

‘‘Bubble and squeak is beef and cabbage fried together. It is so-called from its bubbling up and squeaking while over the fire."

Vicky. 11-02-2021 11:58 AM

Never tried liver. Its one of those things I just cannot bring myself to even try because..am not even sure, just seems wrong? Despite eating many other parts of animals, I don't even know why liver is so bad to my brain?! When I was very young, I apparently used to love steak and kidney. Though the thought of kidney also turns me green. Weird really, as in theory if I will eat meat, I should be willing to try this..and I have tried 'weird' meats, such as eating camel (and being told it was beef, and believing fr ages :bored: ) in tunisia, tried crocodile..and so on. Yet flat out no for liver.

Vicky. 11-02-2021 12:00 PM

Bubble and squeak in this house is all the veg leftovers from sundays dinner, mixed together and fried in the mash. Gavin prefers it to the actual dinner that left the leftovers..

Some do it with meat apparently, but he says adding meat makes it not bubble and squeak

Edit. First I have heard about it apparently being just beef and cabbage!

It sounds delicious ( we never have any leftovers from dinner though, at least not enough for another meal anyway)

Ammi 11-02-2021 12:09 PM

...yeah I have to say, we would rarely have leftovers ...but there is often more than one meal quantity so I freeze for other meals...until the freezer gets full and then we have to start eating them......

Ammi 11-02-2021 12:12 PM

...I was once with someone who ordered liver at a restaurant and when I looked at it, it seemed to be cooked bloody as well.../...rare, I guess it was...?..it just completely made me have nightmares about it...I’d never seen rare liver, ever...served on a plate to eat, that is...

It seems 'we' purposely overcook so theres some left for it the next day! We meaning, if I am doing the dinner I will have someone hovering over my shoulder informing me that the mountain of veg I have done won't be enough, and 'better to much than not enough' etc  When he makes it..my god you could feed at least 20 people with what he makes.

Another weird habit thats surfacing food wise, is him ordering a pizza that he doesn't really want, so he can leave it out and eat it the next day :umm2: Apparently its nicer that way too.

I used to do that with chinese..leave it for next day a lot. I am surprised I am still alive and have never had bad food poisoning tbh aas for some reason, my safety knowledge with food went out the window for chinese. Chicken fried rice, left on kitchen bench all night, then eaten cold in the morning. I did that for years..til I clicked on. It really did taste better, though maybe it was the bacteria soup I was creating for myself, that changed the taste :(

Cold Pizza is amazing though, I'm totally with him there. Next day take away is delicious but it needs to go in the fridge over night

Cold pizza after a big night out is one of the best hangover cures. Sometimes I didn't even remember buying the pizza on the way home  I'd stand in hangover hell eating cold pizza whilst willing the kettle to boil.

Them were the days

Make extra Mash and greens, then put it aside until the next day, then fry that baby up.

Bubble and squeek is the business, I have it on my full English breakfast, some prefer a hash brown but I go for bubble and squeek instead.
