The Talk: Sharon Osbourne leaves US show after racism row

[TV personality Sharon Osbourne has
left US chat show The Talk after a heated
on-air debate about racism earlier this month.
Osbourne defended broadcaster Piers Morgan
over his criticism of a high-profile
TV interview given by the Duchess of Sussex.

That led to a clash with co-host Sheryl Underwood,
who accused Osbourne of
giving "validation" to "racist" views.
TV network CBS took The
Talk off air while it carried out an investigation.

In a statement on Friday, CBS said
the events of the 10 March episode
"were upsetting to everyone involved,
including the audience watching at home".]

She can find another Gig
even with her mate Simon.

Marsh. 27-03-2021 12:53 PM

She'll be back on X factor next year.

Alf 27-03-2021 01:17 PM

I'm no fan of her, but that is disgusting and evil.

Fired for giving support to a friend.

Cancel culture must be fought. It's time to tell the cancel culture generation to fook off or fight.

DouglasS 27-03-2021 01:21 PM

She literally didn’t do anything :skull:

She just challenged other peoples views, isn’t the show called the talk and it’s whole purpose is to have different viewpoints and opinions spoken about.

She said nothing racist at all herself

Freedom of speech is under heavy attack. It needs to be fought, head on.

The cancel culture people need to be named, exposed and attacked.

She literally did and was caught on tape doing so.

Nope.

Her sacking has nothing to do with what she said about Piers Morgan and everything to do with her racist and homophobic comments directed at her colleagues.

Ammi 27-03-2021 02:00 PM

...she seems to have admitted to her words being racist and apologised but what did she say...?..

You know nothing, yet you still butt in as though you do know.

It would be to your advantage if you stopped embarrassing yourself.

Tom4784 27-03-2021 02:01 PM

The idea of 'cancel culture' is not a new thing, it's just back in the 80's and 90's, it was a tool of the right wing and they don't like it now because the focus is on them now, and not the things they opposed.

That’s her publicist and team to save face against cancel culture despite the fact she didn’t even say anything racist

rusticgal 27-03-2021 02:09 PM

Piers Morgan has never said anything racist about Meghan anyway.

Marsh suggested in this thread that he knows.

Can you answer Ammi's question, Marsh?

After Sharon was slammed for defending Piers she took to social media to issue an apology over her behaviour before former co-star Holly Robinson alleged she got her fired for being 'too ghetto'.

Sharon was also accused of making a racial slur at colleague Julie Chen.

The outspoken star has denied all the claims.

After she was slammed over the remarks, she apologised to "anyone of colour that I offended and/or to anyone that feels confused, or let down by what I said".

Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence.

Sharon Osbourne can say what she wants, but that doesn't mean that she's free from the consequences from others. She won't be thrown in prison for her actions, which is what freedom of speech is. Facing societal judgement and consequence is not an attack on freedom of speech.

I'm so tired of people constantly misrepresenting what freedom of speech is to try to shield themselves from response and consequence. You can have an opinion, other people can have their say on your views too, and if you work in the public eye and say something incendiary that can damage your employer, they can sack you for it.

Again, for the bleachers, freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence.

...yeah I just found something similar thank you, Marsh...this was the bit that I found which is more or less the same...some alleged comments are not being disclosed though ...

‘Osbourne apologized on Twitter, but the show suspended production starting March 15 as it announced an internal investigation. Things got worse for Osbourne from there. After Robinson Peete accused Osbourne of having a hand in her own dismissal from The Talk, alleging Osbourne had referred to her as "too ghetto," Remini entered the conversation. The actress and activist, during an interview with journalist Yashar Ali, claimed that Osbourne had made racist comments about former colleague (and Chinese American woman) Julie Chen, homophobic remarks about The Talk creator and then-moderator Sara Gilbert and made anti-Italian slurs toward Remini herself.’

If you'd read any of the articles about it, it says why she was fired

She works for the network, they didn't feel her behaviour was in keeping with their core values so they parted company. It's not cancel culture, its called work. If I did something at work that went against what my company stands for and they felt it was serious enough, they'd sack me. I wouldn't be able to claim cancel culture....no-one is indispensable

Yep.
The fact she dropped herself in it by repeating the slur. :skull: Screw loose.

Quote:

On Tuesday, journalist Yashar Ali published a report alleging that Osbourne, 68, referred to her former The Talk co-host Julie Chen as "wonton" and "slanty eyes," citing multiple unnamed sources, including another former The Talk co-host, Leah Remini.

Osbourne called the claims "crap, all crap," in an interview first given to Daily Mail Wednesday, (PEOPLE confirmed the veracity of the quotes, and Osbourne shared a similar statement), but repeated the racist language, adding "Everyone's got an opinion or a story like the wonton story. It's like f--- off with your f------ wonton story. F--- off!"

Ali's Tuesday report further claimed that Osbourne referred to former co-host and executive producer Sara Gilbert, who is lesbian, as "p---- licker" and "fish eater."

..so what’s more or less being said ...(...pending an investigation etc..)...is that this is consistent and persistent behaviour...she hasn’t been ‘cancelled’ as such but there are several allegations and they need to be looked into...I wonder why they haven’t before if this is persistent behaviour from her...

Yep. Too little too late really regarding her behaviour.

Not that any of it is news, she's always been like this ever since she entered public view.

What did she say though? You claimed to know and said it was caught on tape, can we see please. It’s not just me and Alf wondering, ammi is also.

bots 27-03-2021 02:34 PM

there was a "discussion" that took place on air between osborne and another presenter, probably similar to the piers event. It created controversy forcing cbs to take the program off air for a while. There will always be repercussions from something like that happening, that directly affects the networks revenue .

Some networks want osborne to be edgy, others don't. Know your employer is the obvious advice

DouglasS 27-03-2021 02:34 PM

So these articles about Sharon are miraculously true without evidence, but articles written on people like Meghan are not true and false...Or are just “speculation” and “false rumours”

At least not actively be hypocritical and if you are.. own it

'cancel culture' i hear about more and more these days

spot on Annie, it is a professional talk show, also i never really seen this particular one, i more prefer The View (cuz of Whoopi whom i love) and i also prefer Kelly Clarkson Show cuz of very diverse and interesting guests + kellyoke fab music/band

as for my opinion on Sharon Osbourne herself, i've always liked her, find her quite funny (also on x factor)

It's not about believing anything, it's about what has led to her stepping down.

Not Piers Morgan.... but her colleagues coming forward with complaints about her behaviour, including racist and homophobic language.

It's fairly simple.

There must be some truth for them to part company with her. I assume the evidence is first party from those involved and the network felt compelled to act.

rusticgal 27-03-2021 02:39 PM

So from what I can see...Sharon Osborne defends PM for having 'an opinion'....the opinion being he doesnt believe Meghan regarding her mental health... the other presenter deems this opinion as 'racist' and starts to get upset and Sharon tells her 'not to cry' and suddenly its all about Racism...

Have I missed something
