They are saying she moved to far into the Center.

bots 28-04-2021 03:11 PM

my default reaction would be good, but I will hold onto that until her replacement is announced

Beso 28-04-2021 03:14 PM

Jesus to take over?

Crimson Dynamo 28-04-2021 04:59 PM

Get her on CBB

joeysteele 28-04-2021 06:12 PM

I wouldn't lose any sleep if the whole DUP were gone.
I've no time for the DUP full stop.

Whoever takes over from her, will be likely as bad as leader.

Rob! 28-04-2021 06:20 PM

Unfortunately with a party like that, it's like getting rid of a cold sore. They'll always be another one waiting in the wings.

GoldHeart 28-04-2021 06:45 PM

Not interested in DUP
But yeah probably a worse person will replace her .

She's apparently going to quit the whole DUP party once she steps down as First Minister.

Took her long enough to see how bad her Party is.

joeysteele 14-05-2021 05:59 PM

I cannot bear this undemocratic party.
However I'm pleased Jeffrey Donaldson didn't get it.

bots 14-05-2021 06:07 PM

i found out today that it was ian paisley that formed that party, and then it all made sense

Crimson Dynamo 14-05-2021 07:32 PM

Poots is a young earth creationist and rejects the theory of evolution

Poots faced criticism for banning blood donations from gay people

In September 2013, as Health Minister for Northern Ireland, he fought the ruling that
would bring laws around LGBT adoption in Northern Ireland

DUP leader Edwin Poots resigns amid internal party revolt

[Edwin Poots has resigned as leader of DUP
after just 21 days in the job.
It came after he agreed a deal with Sinn Fein
and the Westminster government to ensure Paul Givan
became Northern Ireland's first minister.

A majority of DUP members in the assembly wanted
to delay the process and he faced an
internal revolt at a party meeting.

Mr Poots, who took over from Arlene Foster in May,
narrowly defeated Sir Jeffrey Donaldson in a leadership vote.

Earlier on Thursday, Paul Givan was nominated
as the new first minister at Stormont while
Sinn Féin's Michelle O'Neill returned as deputy first minister.]

Get this whole undemocratic party gone for me . just extreme and awful as to all of them in my view.

It's scary that in N Ireland, this party still gets the most votes in elections.
Really worrying.

Sin Fein have asked Westminster to legislate on Irish language as he blocked it, then he appointed someone against his parties wishes

It's about time these parties started viewing NI as a whole country with citizens who identify as Irish and as British and trying to accommodate them both. What harm does it do to a British identifying Northern Irish citizen? No one is going to force them to learn Irish.

there is a requirement in scotland that a certain proportion of the tv programs have to be in gaelic, and i think there are about 3 people in the whole country who can actually speak it

I think Irish (certainly in the Republic anyway) is much more popular(?) though. We still have towns and Islands around Ireland (not loads but a good few) that speak Irish as their first language and also it's a subject taught all the way through both primary and secondary school. Most Irish people have at least a basic knowledge of the Irish language

tell that to RTE when they basically ignore Irish language, never even used it once (not even back in the years of own language rule) at ESC

TG4 on the other hand, they love using it at Junior ESC

a little something i myself do know

You may not know as an ex-pat  but it's not really "a thing" any more like it was in yesteryear. Like, I think the proportion still exists but because the "digital transition" is complete now (so everyone has at least Freeview), BBC Alba/CBeebies Alba more than meets the required "quota" and all rest of it was shifted over there too. None of it airs on the "main" channels these days.

It's a shame, kids in 2021 will never know the confusion of turning on kids TV only to find them all speaking Simlish.

Yeah Scottish Gaelic is all but dead other than some very select parts of the highlands & islands - and even there, it's mostly "taught" for traditional reasons, rather than being spoken by families as a first language. There are still plenty of remnants scattered throughout Scottish-dialect English of course.

Ye Olde languages seem to have survived better in Ireland and Wales.

From what I've seen of Scottish gaelic, it seems very similar to Irish, so similar a person speaking Irish and a person speaking Scottish gaelic might actually understand eachother  Welsh is totally different though

As an aside, it’s nothing to do with the people who vote for the DUP agreeing with some of their politician’s backward ideas either. I don’t know one DUP voter who does. Poots was one of the worst dinosaurs, so good riddance.

Many Protestants vote DUP to stop Sinn Fein becoming the dominant party, many Catholics vote for Sinn Fein to stop the DUP being dominant. It’s fear from both sides, a leftover from the Troubles.
The other parties are left behind now, like mine (the SDLP) Alliance and the Unionist Party. Being from a mixed marriage, I was a kid terrified that my Mum or Dad would be murdered by a Catholic OR a Protestant, cos being married to one of ‘them’ was enough to get you killed, especially as my Dad was in politics.
I think the DUP aren’t going to last much longer as a dominant party, they are a mess.

The Slim Reaper 18-06-2021 12:04 PM

For an anti-abortion party, they sure as hell don't like going full term, do they?

Yeah, it's those parties who have every citizens interests at heart that need to start thriving for progress to be made
