The BBC fell short of "high standards of integrity and transparency" over Martin Bashir's 1995 interview with Princess Diana, an inquiry has found.

Mr Bashir acted in a "deceitful" way and faked documents to obtain the interview, the inquiry said.

And the BBC's own internal probe in 1996 into what happened was "woefully ineffective", it added.

The BBC and Mr Bashir have both apologised.

The BBC said the report showed "clear failings", admitting it should have made more effort to get to the bottom of what happened at the time.

The corporation has sent personal apologies to the Prince of Wales, the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex, and Diana's brother Earl Spencer.

Mr Bashir said mocking up the documents "was a stupid thing to do" and he regretted it, but said they had no bearing on Diana's decision to be interviewed.

Because 23million watched it back then (Nov 1995)
The BBC has now said Sorry.
Even has their New BBC CEO Tim Davie
talking about how wrong it was.

She was Tricked
Martin Bashir is Guilty.

Also Nicky in the EU
this is the First Story on ever News Feed in the UK

Bashir won Awards
they are being returned.

Oliver_W 20-05-2021 05:35 PM

there's something a bit Meghan-like, with Diana's simpering "poor me" act. Was Freud right after all? :joker:

But yeah, Bashir's actions weren't acceptable.

this could bring down the bbc, because something like this never happens in isolation

Ammi 21-05-2021 06:17 AM

…as we know, the Royal Institution is a force to cross and this is very personal as well…it’s one of those ironies that the BBC is one for exposing these things itself as well…the ‘power’ it must have had in the past…

“Umm never complain never explain William. Someone’s getting a bit loose-lipped. Harry’s toxic, entitled whining is spreading through the whole family it seems.” - Royal Commentator Sookie Baxter, 2021

Ammi 21-05-2021 06:35 AM

….on Amazon, you can get little vinyl figures of Sookie Baxter now…she’s working as a waitress at a cocktail bar…?…5 years ago she had the world at her feet…

i'm really glad william spoke out rather than harry. I think they both have a right to be seriously pissed off. I think the bbc will struggle to recover from this. I mean, they put out a special panorama program investigating the short comings of the very same program years ago, after already having had an investigation where they covered it all up. It's bloody ridiculous

joeysteele 21-05-2021 08:33 AM

This is a really big mess for the BBC.
All sounding very unsavoury at the very least.

AnnieK 21-05-2021 08:38 AM

Oh dear....this is going to get very uncomfortable for the BBC.

Yes his Statement
makes the most sense.

[William says Diana was "failed" by Bashir,
and also by BBC chiefs "who looked
the other way rather than asking tough questions".]

…it does very much fit with Harry’s work as well in misleading and misinformation etc and how media and social media seem to work together now …and it’s not a great partnership going forward, I feel…

…I commented yesterday and have in the past on stories that are based on deceit and how damaging that is because that then very quickly often becomes ‘fact’ or truth ….

jet 21-05-2021 09:07 AM

It's about time that Martin Bashir and the BBC are held to account for this. Absolute disgrace. Bashir had made Diana so paranoid that she refused royal protection officers because he implied they were spying on her every move.
If they had been with her in Paris, as they would have, she would never have got into that car in the first place.

Responding to an apology from the BBC found guilty of deceiving his mother and enhancing her paranoia is totally different from what loose-lipped Harry has been doing...:hee:

"The Royals, as Jet from TiBB has frequently pointed out past threads, have a strong history of not getting actively involved with this stuff and I feel that William's willingness to speak on this matter will in part have been because of Harry's recent willingness to speak. At the very least, I'm sure plenty of their private conversations will have included Harry talking at length about his anger with the press about Diana, and William would have to be stone-cold to not have been at least somewhat riled up by those thoughts even if he doesn't agree with the overall path Harry has taken.

At the very least, it confirms that William holds some anger and resentment towards the GB press when it comes to his mother, just like Harry does, even if he hasn't been as outspoken about it."

Its a silly comparison. It was an official statement to all media in response to an official inquiry. poor

And you know fine well it isn't, that just silliness, as is making up the name of a royal commentator. But never mind, its just you being you. Trolling.
