Birmingham:Hosp.Worker used dead patient's bank card to buy crisps, sweets and fizzy

Covid Hospital Worker
Used dead patient's bank card to buy crisps,
sweets and fizzy drinks.

Scum/

[A healthcare assistant working on a COVID
ward has been convicted of using a
dead patient's bank card to buy crisps,
fizzy drinks and sweets from a hospital
vending machine.

Ayesha Basharat, 23, took the card
from an 83-year-old woman who had recently
passed away at Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham.
A doctor recorded her time of death as 1.56pm
on 24 January, but just 17 minutes later,
Basharat made six £1 purchases using
the vending machine's contactless payment system.]

£6. Grim.

Not that it would be "fine" if someone stole significantly more than that, but seriously.

It reminds me of when little bits and pieces of charity money used to get stolen from the counter at work. Like obviously all stealing is wrong but you can ALMOST understand someone running off with £100 that they've seen lying on the counter...

...but when someone pilfers a £2 coin from cancer research, it's just somehow so much more sad.

I... almost admire the audacity :worry:

No that's very true, i wouldn't either. But can you not see the utter disrespect on the nurse's part? The woman had been dead for 17 mins, and the nurse was down the shop using her bank card. Sod the money, it's the principal. Absolutely disgusting. Imagine if that was your granny, one of your loved ones?!

Revolting behaviour. Complete lack of respect for human life. Heartless!

Do you not think it's insensitive though ? , why would someone do that .

Yeah, I'm not sure how to articulate it but it's almost like trivialising the death of a person more or something?

The NHS IS NOT trash  , we can't judge everyone the same just because this particular NHS worker decided to be disrespectful and cold to the dead. I actually worry about the future of the NHS.

You can't put a conscience into somebody who hasn't got one, don't waste your time.

dead = dead, no offense, like i said earlier at least the money was spent for good purpose, yes crisps, sweets is much better than what some youth thugs spend their money on these days, namely drugs, guns, alcohol

So it's only stealing if you buy drugs with the money? I don't think that's how the law works Nicky

bots 10-06-2021 03:27 PM

didn't a policeman go to jail for doing something similar at a murder crime scene?

If no crime was committed cause she was dead, then jimmy saville is innocent of many of his crimes committed in hospitals.

No, i don't mean it like that

GoldHeart 10-06-2021 03:33 PM

Why is nobody wondering why this hospital worker is going through a dead patient's personal belongings in the first place , the only way you'd want to go through a patient's wallet / personal stuff etc is to find ID and contact details for their family and next of kin surely ? . Why would the first thought be to steal money/ use their credit cards??!:umm2:

sounds to me like it was a daily occurrence and how they paid for their snacks every day

AnnieK 10-06-2021 03:59 PM

Its not about the amount or what she bought. Its an abuse of her position and the trust the family have put in the NHS. I am sure she was overworked and underpaid as a HCA at the moment but stealing from a dead woman....is low.

It may seem trivial to some as it was only £6 but that woman's family will not think like that. They have just lost a family member and someone is stealing from them before they're even cold??? Grim tbh

Hm. Perhaps not "daily" but yeah it may well not be the first time.
