Kathleen Stock, a philosophy professor
targeted by activists for her views
on gender identification,
has said she fears her career
at Sussex University has been
“effectively ended” by a union’s call
for an investigation into transphobia.

Sussex’s chapter of the University
and College Union (UCU) has urged the
university’s management to
“take a clear and strong stance
against transphobia at Sussex”,
and undertake an investigation
into “institutional transphobia”.
The UCU statement, which did not
name Stock,
came only five days after a protest
against Stock at the campus
near Brighton, including anonymous
posters accusing Stock of transphobia
and calling for her to be sacked.

“In light of recent events on campus
and ensuing public response on
social media,
we extend our solidarity to all trans
and non-binary members of our
community who, now more than
ever, should receive the unequivocal
support of the university and
its management,” the statement said.]

It's ridiculous. The Union is apparently fine with intimidating a woman in her place of work, and a hatemob calling for her head ... But a lesbian acknowledging that biological sex exists and wanting to protect woman-only spaces is a bridge too far?

Pathetic union.

There are currently academic free speech bills which, if they go through, would make this impossible. Also worth remembering that The Union is not The University. Assuming it does go through... There's going to be a clash on this.

This whole language/topic/science denying attack is not sustainable, I'm a bit less worried actually these days, people won't put up with this kind of shut down for very long

Unbelievable, and her weak University care more about getting their 9K in a year than protecting their staff

I hope they give her early retirement on health grounds and she gets her full pension as if she worked up until 67.

It's pathetic that students -at Oxford!- feel like that not only can they not bear to hear views which don't align with their own, but don't want anyone else to hear them either.

Stock's views are harmless and moderate, and there's no excuse for trying to ban her.
