England World cup squad.
Let's see if we can correctly pick Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad.
Over the next 9 months we can discuss who should be in and who shouldn't. Obviously things can change in that time. Injuries and player form can change things. If anyone would like to list all the contenders and outside chances in each position, that would be helpful and appreciated |
Goalkeepers
Jordan Pickford Aaron Ramsdale Nick Pope Dean Henderson Sam Johnstone I imagine 3 of these will go. 3 is the usual amount of goalkeepers teams take to tournaments. If you think any other goalkeepers should be on that shortlist then let us know. |
Right back
A competitive short list for this position. Usually you'd just likely take two players for this position but because some of them offer versatility and can play in other positions, how many of these should go to the World Cup? Kyle Walker (possible centre back) Trent Alexander-Arnold (possible Midfield) Reece James Kieran Trippier (possible left back) Tino Livramento |
Left Back
Luke Shaw Ben Chilwell Aaron Cresswell Bukayo Saka (can play many positions) Tyrick Mitchell Kieran Trippier is also an option here and depending on fitness Fabian Delph is also an option that brings experience and leadership. |
Centre Backs
Harry Maguire John Stones Ben White Fikayo Tomori Conor Coady Marc Guehi Tyrone Mings Trevoh Chalobah Michael Keane |
@Zizu here you go
i guess this is a good place to discuss the possible world cup squad |
Thank you !

None of them are in form, and Southgate has always said he will only include in form players, so he is going to get hammered in the media |
Quote:
in form players, yet you select Jarrod Bowen, one currently terribly out of form at West Ham  |
Still can't get in any way excited for Nations League football.

although friendly games can be interesting too, in terms of experimenting with squad tactics, trying out new players meanwhile the contrast of England and USA Gregg Berhalter's squad for the friendlies against Japan, Saudi's GK Matt Turner (Arsenal) GK Sean Johnson (New York City FC) GK Ethan Horvath (Luton Town) ----------------------------------- DF DeAndre Yedlin (Inter Miami FC) DF Walter Zimmermann (Nashville SC) DF Aaron Long (New York Red Bulls) DF Reggie Cannon (Boavista) DF Sergino Dest (AC Milan) DF Sam Vines (Antwerp FC) DF Mark McKenzie (Genk) DF Erik Palmer-Brown (US Troyes) DF Joe Scally (Borussia Monchengladbach) --------------------------------------- MF Kellyn Acosta (Los Angeles FC) MF Weston McKennie (Juventus) MF Tyler Adams (Leeds United) MF Luca de la Torre (Celta de Vigo) MF Johnny Cardoso (Internacional) MF Malik Tillman (Glasgow Rangers) --------------------------------------- FW Christian Pulisic (Chelsea) FW Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders FC) FW Paul Arriola (FC Dallas) FW Brendan Aaronson (Leeds United) FW Josh Sargent (Norwich City) FW Jesus Ferreira (FC Dallas) FW Giovanni Reyna (Borussia Dortmund) FW Ricardo Pepi (FC Groningen) |
I understand why they have the nations league, it is at least competitive games that mean something rather than simply friendlies, but it all has just become too much, with too many games and it is affecting the domestic season which is the games bread and butter

I am going with the Arsenal link with Ramsdale quick passes up to Saka , the Liverpool link with TAA and Henderson on the right plus Mings / Foden / Grealish links down the left
Ok I am thinking crazy having everyone playing in their normal position .. oh well RAMSDALE ( OR PICKFORD ) TAA. WHITE. MINGS. CHILWELL HENDERSON. BELLINGHAM. FODEN SAKA. KANE GREALISH Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
The only certain starter is maguire

Na .. he’s surely done after that disaster class on Monday !?! He’s not gonna get games unless there is an injury or two to Martinez or Varane Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Some sobering stats whilst we recover from the recent maulings
Just heard some stats about Brazil Only 1 defeat in years and that was against Argentina who are on something like a 45 match unbeaten run .. Since that one defeat Brazil haven’t lost since .. scoring 43 whilst conceding just 5 goals ! They played Tunisia recently .. Tunisia hadn’t conceded a goal in the previous 7 games but were 4 goals down by halftime .. Brasil eased off in the second half and won 5:1 . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
italy were on a long unbeaten run until they weren't
|
England are some team if they can’t find a starting place for Grealish , Foden , Maddison or TAA ..
The other explanation of course is that Southgate is a complete imbecile Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
my england squad would be
GK Nick Pope GK Aaron Ramsdale GK Tom Heaton ----------------------- DF Reece James DF Luke Shaw DF John Stones DF Eric Dier DF Jarrad Branthwaite DF Kieran Trippier DF George Cox DF Trent Alexander-Arnold DF Ben Chilwell DF Kyle Walker ------------------------------- MF Jude Bellingham MF Declan Rice MF Mason Mount MF Jesse Lingard -------------------------------- FW Harry Kane FW Jack Grealish FW Raheem Sterling FW Phil Foden FW Bukayo Saka FW Jadon Sancho |
what i've seen from Branthwaite here at PSV, he's a great defender, good header qualities too at corners, free kicks
George Cox, yes controversial name, but i know him pretty well here at Fortuna, and he has proven himself here as a solid left back and consistent starting 11 player, could've made a transfer this summer, but he chose to stay after Flemming already had left Tom Heaton, controversial yes, but he has some experience and would still make a decent 3rd GK option, i mean look at Pasveer here now for us, 39 yrs old, ex Heracles, PSV, Vitesse now Ajax, and late blossomer as of now into national team as well :D |

Is that you Gareth ?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

i used to like Gareth yes, but not anymore now, his time at england team should be up now, even Germany has renewed their staff, after a long spell of Jogi Low
those who i'd like to bring forward as next possible managers - Raymond Domenech (he has national team experience with France, think his preferred style of play would harmonize well with England i think - Stuart Pearce (has coached U21 squad longer time ago, don't know where he works currently but yeah i always liked him as the U21 coach) - Carlo Ancelotti (big name coach, big name success coach to be more specific, hasn't coached a national team before, england would be a first good national team job for him i think) |
England are one injury to Trippier away from Southgate having to explain why he thinks Luke Ayling is a better player than Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Graham Potter would have a chance .. Southgate is one dimensional just like Conte at Spurs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Yikes !
I just heard about a guy who went to Qatar with his brother and wife last year .. they all got a little drunk and were imprisoned for three days .. the wife was taken off to a women’s prison . The guys were injected/sedated whilst there were in their cells !! That’s a scary thought Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
well no wonder that england are like scared chickens against Iran
Iran can totally kick their smug arses :joker: :joker: |
No Ben Chilwell to the world cup
hamstring injury in the match vs dinamo zagreb |
|
not a too bad squad, but you can always trust Gareth to **** something up
Iran has a decent team, very experienced coach USA has a very talented team, good coach Wales have Bale, whom just came from being a deciding force in MLS Cup with his late equalizer which got his LAFC into penalty shootouts which they ended up winning, yes he struggled with injuries recently but i find this a case of ''getting back into form at exactly the right moment'' so this is good news for Rob Page, bad news for the england lions i think who would you guys put in goal, i'd say Ramsdale over Pickford |
Have to say I’m relieved to see TAA , Maddison and Gallagher in there !! Disappointed no Toney and amazed he’s risking Wilson . Also don’t agree with Maguire going !! I would have preferred Burns , Mings , Tarkowski or even Tomori Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Rashford? Wilson? :conf:
