The Premier League

The first ever Premier league match was played 30 years ago today.

Alf 15-08-2022 01:56 PM

I remember it quite well.

The talk of that day were newly promoted, big spending Blackburn Rovers who had just signed record signing, Alan Shearer. If I remember correctly Shearer scored two beauties on that opening day in a 1-3 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Alf 15-08-2022 02:06 PM

Every premier league goal of the season. This video goes upto the 19/20 season so the last two won't be on.

Crimson Dynamo 15-08-2022 02:14 PM

Yes i remember it well too

Proper mans game back them - no Alice bands or rainbow flags

Alf 15-08-2022 02:15 PM

Aye, it were a man's game back then.

Zizu 15-08-2022 02:17 PM

I wish they would amalgamate the old first division with the premier league !!

It always irks me when they start discussing the All Time Best PL players when there were so many simply amazing players BEFORE the PL

How little Blackburn Rovers shocked the Premier League.

Alf 15-08-2022 02:27 PM

The rise of the Manchester United dynasty

Alf 15-08-2022 02:31 PM

Newcastle's challenge fell in 1 interview.

Just when Fergie thought he'd seen of all comers, along came a Frenchman to stick a stone in his shoe.

Alf 15-08-2022 02:39 PM

After years of failed promises and big spending, it needed a special one to take Chelsea to the Promised Land

Alf 15-08-2022 02:44 PM

Manchester City started their reign as Kings in spectacular style.

Alf 15-08-2022 02:45 PM

I can't leave out the time Leicester City shocked the World.

Alf 15-08-2022 02:46 PM

And that concludes the story of the 30 years.

THAT goal is interesting for an interesting reason !!

The assist came from Mario Balotelli with his ONLY assist in Prem League football

Happy to see Charlton on that list. That RedBus kit is a favourite of mine that I still have to this day. It was a great time being a kid going to The Valley and watching us play some of the best teams in England. Hopefully we can return to that level soon enough.

Is the Premier League the most successful project in club football history?

My favourite West Ham moments:
- Staying up against the odds thanks to Tevez going on a late season scoring spree
- The last season at Upton Park - got into Europe, Bilic was a great character, Payet was special and the atmosphere was amazing
- Season before last under Moyesy making us a proper contender
- Di Canio's goal against Wimbledon and his general impact on the club

Non West Ham I'm not sure anything comes close to that Aguero goal and final day drama

Alf 15-08-2022 08:03 PM

The great escape of 1994

Final day of the season. Everton needed to win to stay up and even a win wasn't enough, they needed other results to go their way. And then they went 2 nil down in the game. The rest is history.

Goodison Park under construction at the time.

Hopefully you will get back up there.

I mean if Nottingham Forest can do it then any of us can.:joker:

I remember watching that one. I think it was a Monday night. I remember Villa's keeper making a huge error.

It was the match that got me into Football.

It was such a beautiful moment when that error occurred.:flutter:

With Casemiro and the Brazilian winger likely to sign then it’s hopeful especially if FDJ arrives as well

I personally don't think that FDJ is coming to Man Utd in this Transfer Window.
