Arise, children of the Fatherland
Our day of glory has arrived
Against us the bloody flag of tyranny
is raised; the bloody flag is raised.
Do you hear, in the countryside
The roar of those ferocious soldiers?
They’re coming right into your arms
To cut the throats of your sons, your comrades!

To arms, citizens!
Form your battalions
Let’s march, let’s march
That their impure blood
Should water our fields

Bordeaux town hall on fire. quite shocking, but also admirable that the protesters wont stand for the bull****.

Oliver_W 23-03-2023 09:24 PM

They always go all out on their protests, as the only war the French can win unaided is a civil war.

bots 24-03-2023 04:10 AM

the french sure know how to do a protest

Yes but you will now have to collect the full 45 years (or what ever it is) of working to be able to claim, so if you went to university you now aren’t retiring until 69/70 in France

Nicky91 24-03-2023 07:32 AM

why no protests in UK then, working until 68 is more of a farce

no here the french are acting like too spoiled children

retirement at 63 or a retirement at 68, where it's gonna be at in UK

:joker:

keep standing your ground my dear french government

protest goers: booooooo no rise of retirement age to 63

me: can always go more up to 68, so do you want to keep complaining

protest goers: don't make them go up at all

me: ok i count to 3, either 63 or 68, you decide

protest goers: but

me: no buts, make a choice or we make a choice for you

protest goers: we'll stop and accept that at 63

Macron is pushing to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. The bill would also require 43 years of work to be eligible to receive a full pension at 64, otherwise individuals would have to wait until they are 67.

Polling shows the majority of French people oppose Macron's plan, which raises the age when workers start collecting a government pension by two years. The retirement age moves from 62 to 64 for most workers, and from 57 to 59 for garbage collectors.

The new conditions would apply to those born in or after 1968. However, workers born in 1961, who were supposed to retire this year, would have to work three extra months.

bots 24-03-2023 08:05 AM

it's not just the fact he wants to raise the retirement age, it's that he bypassed democracy to achieve it, by not allowing a vote in parliament. We all know what the french did last time they felt they were not being heard

UserSince2005 24-03-2023 08:37 AM

But who works 43 solid years with out a break? Or even those who work in other countries so many french working in london not working towards their 43 years. So many french also commute everyday to Switzerland and Luxembourg to earn a better wage. People won’t be able to retire until after 70 under this new law.

No one relies on a state pension any more and that has been the case for decades ...if you are French and working in the UK you will be automatcally enrolled into a private pension if employed and will also be eligible for some state UK pension

I'm all for moving to the American system where everyone fends for themselves.
But when you've paid extortionate tax for years and then the script gets flipped I understand why the french are angry.
The French and UK really aren't comparable on this topic.
French wages are so low and taxes are so high, but they have so many social benefits compared to the UK.
Literally in France if you lose your job the state pays you your previous wage up to 2.5k euros per month for up to 2 years whilst you look for other work.
The French are scared all these things are being taken away from them and they are still left with ****ty wages and high taxes.
That is why they fight.

I think the French are great, they protest for their rights, here in the UK we are far too passive. I turn 50 this year and I can access a pension as I was in it before they made the reforms that allowed you to access your private pension at 55, now they are thinking this is a bad idea as alot of people are retiring early so from 2028 that will rise to 57 ...and it will continue to rise
