https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...ngham-66715441
[Birmingham City Council has declared itself effectively bankrupt. The local authority - the largest in Europe - has issued a Section 114 notice preventing all but essential spending to protect core services. The pressures have been linked to a £760m bill to settle equal pay claims. In a joint statement, the leader and deputy leader of the Labour authority said the move was a "necessary step as we seek to get our city back on a sound financial footing". ] Life In The City |
2 things
1. Labour show how good they are at managing finances 2. The reason they are in this mess is because they actively discriminated against women |
my friends who bought in Birmingham never stop going on about what a great city it is and how it was the best decision ever to buy there.

Energy companies = record profits
Amazon, Starbucks, and other corporations also raking in ridiculous profits, as services crumble in the country. The politicians in thrall to capital are literally killing us. If only there was a way to take some of those profits to redistribute. I don't know, call it a tax or something. |

I bet they'll sell off any remaining green spaces too. |
if they dont sell off their assets, residents will end up paying much more for vastly reduced services. They haven't even touched yet on the unemployment it will cause too

Birmingham City Council has signed off a wave of cuts to services ahead of a 21% rise in council tax over two years.
The largest local authority in Europe has declared itself effectively bankrupt and needs to make £300m in savings. The financial measures have been described by those on the Labour-led council as "devastating". Leader John Cotton apologised "unreservedly" to people living in the city during a full meeting on Tuesday. Last September, the council said it could not afford to meet its financial obligations. The cuts were first published in draft form in February, and touch on everything from reduced waste collections to dimmed street lighting. The crunch vote, in which 53 councillors voted for and three against, came hours before Jeremy Hunt was set to reveal his Budget. In it, the chancellor is expected to ask councils to reduce spending on diversity schemes and consultants. Local authorities across the country have said they are struggling to balance the books, with Nottingham also announcing big cuts to services. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...ngham-68483264 |
