Who do these wealthy celebrities think they are?…do they think they make themselves look good reaching out to humble people who don’t have a pot to piss in to donate money or quit their jobs if it’s affecting their mental health whilst they sit in their million pound homes without a worry in the world….sickening.

Never seen them begging the public for donations...The Royals dedicate a lot of their time visiting Countries, Cities and towns and meeting victims of all kinds that then highlight charities to help these people.

They highlight charities and literally run charitable trusts - these trusts operate on the basis of charitable donations from the public. What sort of charity work or work raising awareness is it that you think they're doing that doesn't, ultimately, ask that people open their purses and make a donation? Just because they do it in stately homes wearing tiaras doesn't make it any different. Smoke and mirrors. It is exactly the same thing dressed up in a fancy gown.

Not only that, but people are constantly beating the drum that this is one of the reasons they're valuable and we should keep them... their support of charities. Bowing and pawing at their charitable feet in any Royal thread on TiBB. But like I said... random Hollywood celebs doing the same thing and it's "Yuck, mudbloods, who do they think they are??". Pff.

Harry and Megan are more in line with celeb endorsements of charities. The royals are not so upfront as begging for money, and it's quite a bit different to call 05678900000 now and pledge all your available cash or be branded a heartless bastard

As I said its completely different....two hollywood 'celebs' pleading for money in the comfort of their sprawling mansions compared to Royals who devote their lives to charitable work and representing the country....

Totally.They spend their lives putting in the work,with many of their 3,000 a year engagements on behalf of their charities. Carried out, day after day, without the hoohaa. They don’t sit on their asses in their Palaces begging for money. There is simply NO comparison with publicity seeking celebs.

Perhaps if they had gone to Hawaii and paid homage to the victims...tried walking in their steps I would have a better perspective of them.

Oprah and The Rock donated $10million of their own money as well as trying to raise money, the Rock spent part of his childhood in Hawaii and shares that Polynesian culture/background with him being from Samoa. I think he's got a right to be involved in fund raising for this cause. And it's honestly laughable how people are justifying the Royals charity work but scoff at these two doing something

I get you want to make an argument, but i am no royal fan, and there is a striking difference between the way royals handle charities and the way celebs do it and you are being disingenuous if you don't recognise that

what happened in Hawaii also happened in Greece, Canada this year though


if not for those wildfires, the Hawaiians have a pretty good life as it is a beautiful state, group of islands

and i'm not one to speculate on the cause of those wildfires, but i always firstly think of arson or accidental due to not being too responsible around BBQing

Obviously the Royals dont know what its like to walk in their shoes but they visit and try to understand the devastation and see it with their own eyes...unfortunately your own eyes are not allowing you to see that.

Your error here is mis-remembering anywhere that I said any of this is bad. I don't think it's "bad" that the Royals support charities (if they must exist, it's the least they can do) or that celebrities support charities. I find the methods of both ham-fisted but each to their own ... the Royal methods seem less "dignified and refined" once you see them for what they are (PR) but ultimately wherever/whenever money is getting where it needs to go, that's a positive.

So I don't think the Royals are "bad" for doing charity.

SB decided to bring the Royals into the equation...no one is Justifying the Royals Charity work because its part of what they do...trying to make a comparison is simply ridiculous.

The fact that they go and see it with their own eyes and choose - yes, choose - to remain a part of the hyper-privileged and wealthy global elite and ride around in gold-adorned horse drawn carriages makes me dislike them all the more, not less. Imagine travelling the world and seeing real poverty, and then flying back to your literal palace and not entering deep existential crisis.

That isn't even true, I pointed out Harry's privilege quite openly with the whole "people should leave jobs they're not happy in" thing. I agreed with him that people shouldn't just stick with their lot, but that it's not as simple as he made out and most normal people need to seek an alternative that pays the same or better and can't simply walk away.

Harry and Meghan at least, though, are just what they are - plain old celebrities. Yes with all of the wealth and privilege that can come with that. THe same privilege that people like Oprah and The Rock have. Like I said they're all the same - just celebrities.

The difference is - AGAIN - that they're not pretending to be something better than that, and they don't have a legion of people insisting the same thing. The Royal Family are just celebrities no better than any of the others mentioned. No better or different at all. It's a fairytale, an illusion.
