Are you with the AA/RAC/GREENFLAG?

You could have called them out to have a look.... or you could have got a second opinion/quote.

Your timing belt probably needed replacing anyway at 65k miles If it's never been done.

Crimson Dynamo 05-04-2024 01:53 PM

Timing belt had to be done anyroad so not really

bots 05-04-2024 02:18 PM

i had a timing belt go on me in a car a few years ago and it did serious damage to the engine, ended up costing me a fortune

I'm always very careful to get the timing belt done now

arista 05-04-2024 02:24 PM

£300
should be the charge

Cherie 05-04-2024 04:41 PM

MTVN 05-04-2024 04:59 PM

I believe it gets checked if you get your full service when it's due.

Which, to be fair, we rarely do... :umm2:.

I've accepted my fate but I swear to god if it's still having issues after this it's going in the bin. The whole car. Had less problems with the old Golf and it was over 15 years old by the time we got rid! It didn't even have Bluetooth. THose were the days... puff of black smoke out the back, 7 warning lights blazing and still running like a trooper :flutter:.

This never happens to proper men.

It's true, we had to phone my wife's dad. But he said the same as LT and Niamh (that the timing belt will have needed done soon anyway) so woteva.

Beso 05-04-2024 05:27 PM

How embarrassing.

If you're insecure about your masculinity, I suppose so

Ammi 05-04-2024 05:31 PM

Oh good, a shorter post that I am able to quote.*useless mods)

Charge him for the petrol he used, and do be so gullible next time. £700 quid. You must look like an easy touch.

the timing belt controls the sequence of the pistons going up and down, so the engine just cant operate without one. If it breaks, like mine did, then your pistons do some random crap and then it just stops. It can shove a piston through the cylinder head if you are really unlucky

Ammi 05-04-2024 08:21 PM

….ahhhhh, I’m so glad that the team helped you to make Gav’s big birthday year celebrations more special and perfect by winning for you….getting very drunk is absolutely the only best thing to do for some special times and this is definitely one of those times…enjoy being just you two lovely people in Liverpool…:flutter:…

Beso 05-04-2024 09:38 PM

I wonder if Niamh has also been done, by now. I would imagine so.

…just as a thing of local interest, Niamh and Gav….make sure that you drink some of the water there as well as the wine ….because a great-grandfather from Merseyside has become the world's oldest living man….John Tinniswood, who is 111 years and 223 days old, puts his longevity down to a fish and chips on a Friday and having hiked regularly when he was young…..Mr Tinniswood is a Liverpool FC fan…….was born in the city on 26 August 1912, and can recall standing on the terraces watching Billy Liddell and Everton's Dixie Dean….

…so also raise a little glass to Mr John Tinniswood while you’re there…?.. not only the oldest living man but the oldest living Liverpool FC fan……

Niamh. 06-04-2024 06:26 AM

……still though, multi tasking of posting and snoozing at 7.30am after a big night out …that’s some great skill sets that you’ve taken to teach the people of Liverpool…I imagine many of them aren’t so sparkly on a Saturday morning but the fine people of Cork….well, they know how it’s done…
