Sarah’s “Stop the Gloats” comment
 

So Sarah said it about Ali, Dean, Segun, Khaled and Thomas during the vampire task.

I understand there was no racial intention there and just not thinking about the word play, but some are calling her racist and Hanah felt she was referring to her group who are POC (even though Sarah wasn’t). Thoughts?

She's not racist. She just didn't think about the negative connection to that word.

It was a play on words for the slogan stop the boats. But some (including Hanah) who thought she was saying it about her group (which Hanah referenced as people of colour)

stop the boats is not a form of racism, its stopping illegal immigration

It was about Hannah gloatng during the vampire task. Badly worded.

I never heard that slogan before which is why that would mean nothing to.me

She was on the same team as Hanah, it was about the vampires as they were gloating.

See this is the confusion, i don't think it was the vampire task.

I think it was when Marcello got HOH, I remember Sarah talking to Emma in the kitchen.... saying she thought Hanah etc was " gloaty" . Emma was agreeing aswell.


Sarah was also a villager so it makes zero sense it being about the vampire task :facepalm: :conf: .

Sarah has foot in mouth disease,and is either lying or has got confused.

It was definitely about when Hanah's group went upstairs to celebrate Marcello as HOH. We never saw Sarah mention a boat joke,so no idea why she dug that hole for herself.

I think BB has been really irresponsible here by not clarifying with Hanah that the gloat remark in the task is separate to the “stop the gloats” comment because one was aimed at her group - a group largely made up of POC and the other was aimed at Vampires, which consisted of mainly white people.

It’s still poorly worded but I think the misunderstanding on who the comment was aimed at should be clarified because it removes the idea it was said towards a group of POC which puts a whole different stance on it.

Still doesn't make sense , as the comment was specifically about Hanah. If you watch it back.... you'll see . Hence why it has to be the HOH / Marcello thing :shrug: .

Sarah has basically got herself into trouble ,when I don't even think she said anything about boats to Nathan. Very weird :conf:.

I know Hanah was a migrant and I think Segun was one two so I think that’s why they have got offended

The stop the gloats was said about the Vampires. I think Sarah assumed that is what they were referring to.

No Sarah got confused. She did call Hannah gloaty. But she also said stop the gloats during the vampire task and seems to think that’s what they were referring to. Ajay explained it on L&L.

I wasn't able to watch the show tonight, so maybe I'm a little premature in saying this, but just on the face of it, it seems rather reaching to call it racial at all. Especially if the context is that the other participants, who are majority white, were gloating.

To my mind, you'd have to be thinking about the migrant crisis 24/7 to make the connection between her comment and the stop the boats slogan.

How did that even come up now if it happened ages ago? (Sorry not watch l&l)

Still, the fact that she mistakenly voiced the connection aloud with no provocation shows to any right thinking person that it wasn't racial in its intent. Sadly, most people don't think sensibly or logically when even a sniff of racial subject matter enters the convo...

Yeah tbh I found it weird & a little cringe how her verbal diarrhoea let her down, if she's instantly linking " stop the boats / gloats " joke with Hanah .. it's not good. Even if she didn't mean it that way.

But like I said she was mixing up the comment with an entirely different situation. It wasn't even about the vampire task ...but she assumed it was :rolleyes: .

But it looks as if she's aiming it at Hanah, which is why she probably shouldn't have mentioned the boat comment / joke.

The reason it’s blown up is because Hanah thought Sarah was saying it about her core group (which she wasn’t).
