Unemployed for the first time in 8 years

And I forgot how tedious job hunting is and I’ve not even been turned down by anywhere yet with applications or had interviews yet.

UserSince2005 16-11-2024 12:04 AM

I’m hiring, message me your cv.

I luckily had Sky come along when I was sick of my last job. Unfortunately not had that luxury this time of being able to jump into something different bc I would have been sacked over the weekend if I hadn’t had got there first and put my notice in.

I’m sure something will crop up.

No hunny full time and part time jobs available, 22 days holiday plus the bank holidays and I match pension contributions to 3%. Really the dream job.

Black Dagger 16-11-2024 12:30 AM

Oooh enticing xx

Keep going !!

I was told years ago to keep trying .. and often you get success- sometimes very soon after you were about to quit !

…I don’t know if you want to think of temporary for the moment but t’is the season to be busy and seasonal work could be an option right now and help with that tedium…?…and you might not even have to dress as Santa or an elf…although, you’d look very fetching as either…good luck in finding that job that fits you……best babe foot forward…chin up, chest out…charge it……

AnnieK 16-11-2024 06:22 AM

What type of work are you looking for lovely? As Ammi said, lots of seasonal work around at the moment. There are jobs out there but the market is moving quickly so if you see something you like the looks, act fast and apply.

AnnieK 16-11-2024 06:22 AM

Also, maybe sign up with a couple of local agencies to widen your options

Black Dagger 16-11-2024 08:19 AM

I’m mostly experienced in sales. There is a lot of temp retail stuff going atm which will probably tide me over while I think about my options.

I was thinking bold career move and applying for an apprenticeship with the BBC in journalism. I always loved writing when I was younger and the wage isn’t that bad. It wouldn’t start until September next year though so I’d definitely have to find something in the meantime.

Yeah I was signed up to an agency years back before I was taken on fully by the company I worked for before I was at Sky.

it's all part of life's rich tapestry. I've been there, i know what it's like. Think of it as an exciting new start, because believe it or not, it is and you will look back in a few years and say, that was the best thing that ever happened to me

Livia 16-11-2024 11:21 AM

Good luck, I hope you find something you really like. The BBC apprenticeship sounds interesting.... hope it all works out for you.

Thanks Livia! Definitely intrigued by the idea. It wouldn’t be until September so gives me options to look into in the mean time.

Ninastar 16-11-2024 11:55 AM

You know my situation where I had to give up the last 7 years of my life and start over in a completely new state. It is so overwhelming. And comments from family members/friends sometimes make it worse.

It took me two weeks to find a job here. It wasn’t the best but it led me to the place I work now (which I ****ing love) and I feel like it happened for a reason

Sometimes starting with less than what you had before is kind of like humbling??? And you end up appreciating more. That’s how I feel anyway. I took a job that doesn’t pay the best, just so I can work my way up and get a better position.

Are there any places you can see yourself working where you can like earn better opportunities?

Thimkibg ob you, friend!!

rusticgal 16-11-2024 12:23 PM

Good luck Black Dagger...one door closes and another one opens...everything happens for a reason

Honestly Sky gave me so many opportunities and really opened my eyes on my capabilities so I’m eager to give anything a go that I feel could benefit me and allow me to be the confident being I am.

Thanks you Rusti. I’m definitely keeping a positive mindset rather than just hit the bottle and hide away feeling sorry for myself 💙

The world is your oyster young man.

I think I will you know! It’s a totally different kind of thing than what I’ve ever thought to do. I used to love writing growing up but never took it anywhere

I did do some adult care work when I was 15 for work experience and did enjoy it. I wouldn’t be opposed to that field again! Thank you x

Good luck Daggers  Bots gave you a great perspective. Change is always scary, but without it, things don't get better and we can't grow. It's OK to feel down and to be a bit moody about it all. Just don't let the events themselves take away your personal drive and always be open to better opportunities to enter your life than what you had before. It's much easier to be rigid and end up stuck emotionally.

…I think what Caitlin has said is very true also, BD…that sometimes paths can be unexpected and not the direction you thought etc…but that they can lead you to something great that you wouldn’t have found, had you not gone through those bumpy times as well…and we may not want those bumps etc but they do have purpose because getting through them adds to our skills, if you like…(…I’m glad that you’re in a job that you love, Caitlin……and that you’ve found sense in it all because that’s the person you are, who will find that……)…

…I’m liking the sound of the apprenticeship, BD…it’s something that you’ve felt drawn toward in the past…?…and if it’s presenting as something that’s open to you now or shortly…?..then maybe it’s drawing you toward it as wanting to be part your future…?….

Thank you for the words Maru. Means a lot! I’m not bitter at how this has gone down. I’m very much to blame for a lot of what led me to me having my hands forced and resigning. It’ll help me continue to grow as a person!

I just think it’d be a bold career path and why not. If it doesn’t work out then there is no harm in saying it just wasn’t right for me.

…yeah, Non, je ne regrette rien …I think is so much the better vibe than ‘should have…’…and if it isn’t right for you…?…then following that path may still lead to something that is right…we don’t always have to reach that final destination because that final destination may be on the way, you know…(…just by the by…one of my sons took a ‘bold career path’ change because he wasn’t happy with his direction at that time…there were so many reasons he could have found to say, hmmmmmm no…but he didn’t….?…and it’s brought him to everything in a work life that he could have hoped for…)…and our working lives are so very long so if we have opportunities to make them what we hoped for…then, yes…yes, yes, yes…

I mean getting diagnosed with depression and anxiety and working about 12 days since June didn’t help lol.

I may have skewered my system issues as well by making out my laptop was playing up but it was just me turning it off and rebooting whenever I got overwhelmed. Obviously misconduct and unprofessional but a lapse because this time last year I was going for a leadership role so they knew of my potential. I just got in my own head the last few months and the fact I was absent a lot just made me just think I wasn’t good for the company. My manager who I got on with said the door would be open if I was in a better state in the new year but I’m weighing up my options for now.

…so even ‘at your worst as an employee’…as in being overwhelmed with your anxieties and depression…your manager still saw and appreciated your worth and value as an employee and would keep that door open for you, absolutely….which is a pretty great thing and I hope that helps you in realising your own self worth and self value……
