Anyone doing Dry January?

I am going to do it this year and might extend till my birthday in March. I only drink at weekends but going to knock that on the head for a bit. I don't sleep well and rarely sleep past 6am so hoping if I have an alcohol detox it may help.

Anyone else doing it or maybe Veganuary?

Niamh. 28-12-2024 07:22 PM

Might do a couple of weeks, half dry January? [emoji23] just a Christmas detox

Cherie 28-12-2024 07:24 PM

Can I do dry second half of Jan, I am away going away on Monday until the 11th, I am back on plan on Slimming world as dont want to come back to having put lbs back on so any alcohol will be very on plan so I suppose its more or less dry Jan tbf

Cherie 28-12-2024 07:24 PM

oh snap with me and Neem on second half dry Jan we could start a new trend

GoldHeart 28-12-2024 07:29 PM

I rarely drink anyway, only at special occasions like Christmas etc.

Dry day

Swan 28-12-2024 07:49 PM

Yeah i am. Been drinking way too much recently. Alright at the time, but such a massive downer otherwise.

Im doing 6 months sober (gonna try my hardest). Last year, i got my 6 pack back, good eating (1 cheat day a week), lots of walking and working out.

Im gonna start a "lets go" thread in the new year. Eat well, drink non, walk, lift weights, move etc. A thread where we can encourage, give tips, will each other on.

That sounds like a great idea.

I don't often drink, but when I do there is normally some sort of calamity.

I went out for a Christmas brunch in Birmingham and somehow ended in Manchester with no idea how I got there. No other trains back and hotels full so it cost me £370 in a taxi to get home which was 113 miles away

It doesn't bother me to not drink, it makes me feel quite down afterwards anyway.

Looking forward to getting back into a healthy routine where I'm eating better and exercising

I went there 7 years ago, I didn't sit down for the meetings but I went to get weighed every week, kept me motivated

The meetings can be handy with tips on what to eat to stay on plan if going out for dinner

I didn't stick to it that rigidly, if I went out to dinner I ate what I wanted, it still worked really well though (obviously I wasn't eating out loads)

I haven’t had a drink since April.. giving up coffee would be more of a challenge for me and i’m not up for that :joker:

Nicky91 30-12-2024 01:51 PM

Slimming World?

Paying money for someone to tell you to stop shoveling food in your mouth.

I'll tell you for free.

Redway 30-12-2024 05:47 PM

My birthday’s in January, so no.

About 10 years ago I went cold turkey .. 6 coffees a day to ZERO

Stopped on Friday evening

Felt great all throughout Saturday

Woke up Sunday morning with a dreadful headache/migraine and felt ill for 2 days which included random/intermittent vomiting !!

I barely even do that. I like alcohol during social times, but it has to be paired with good food. Food quality has gone so much overall, I don't see the point of going out to get anything to pair at home.

Sadly yes, I'm considering this when everything calms down.

The actual thought

:omgno:

I'd never poo again

MTVN 30-12-2024 10:27 PM

I'm thinking about it. I've been quite overindulgent recently and I'm running a marathon in April so I really need to focus on my training for that. I also have hardly any social occasions in January but that can make me more tempted to drink because I love a solo couple of pints on a quiet weekend

I think I'll just have a mini detox in the New Year then see how I'm going. Might end up being more of a damp Jan than a dry one

Gusto Brunt 31-12-2024 06:10 AM

I'm doing dry - water only January, February, March - 2025 onward. :p

Gusto Brunt 31-12-2024 06:11 AM

I was talking to a guy in hospital who told me his friend beat the booze by being hypnotised into thinking water was gin!

That's how he got over his booze crave.

I drink very rarely and I don't binge drink so I feel like it would be pointless. I think it's a great idea for people who do drink though and I commend anyone who lasts the whole month!

I was amazed other day watching 2 different Asian people buy copious amounts of bottled water in Aldi. Do they not have taps?

Scottish tap water is the best water in the world

Vanessa 31-12-2024 07:19 PM

I don't drink
