How often do you people shop at Waitrose?

Is it somewhere you’d never go or is it where you do your (continental) weekly shop?

Redway 10-03-2025 11:11 PM

People who have some level of dual-culture affinity will know what I mean when I specify “continental” shop. You’ve obviously got to get your challa, borekas, plantain, De-Rica tomato paste, authentic jerk-marinade, chingri-malai spices, egusi and ogiri-Igbo from somewhere-else. They don’t even have quail meat at Waitrose. Just the eggs.

Niamh. 11-03-2025 06:50 AM

We don't have Waitrose in Ireland

Benjamin 11-03-2025 06:53 AM

I occasionally go. I prefer M&S though over Waitrose.

MTVN 11-03-2025 06:56 AM

Never but not really because of any of the poll options, there just aren't any in my part of Bristol

Ammi 11-03-2025 06:56 AM

…I have a Waitrose within walking distance/around a 15 minute walk so I’ll walk there for small things that are easy and lighter to carry….I know that it’s a bit more expensive but I have to balance up fuel etc to take the car to a more distant supermarket if I’m only buying one or two things…for some things it’s more cost effective to go to Waitrose…

James 11-03-2025 07:13 AM

Nearest Waitrose to me is in Glasgow, but I have seen a delivery van so I don't know if they deliver here.

Cherie 11-03-2025 07:26 AM

Where is the never option? It is a shop that never appealed to me

…the last option…?…

‘I … actually wouldn’t even shop there if you paid me. Far too snobby and overpriced for me’…

That didn't cover me though as that is not the reason I dont shop there , its a bit like Asda I just dont like it  I dont think it is overpriced either dont they have a Waitrose range...that is comparable with most supermarkets

thesheriff443 11-03-2025 07:42 AM

I used to go there all the time for a few basic items years ago because it was in the village near my parents
Then a Tesco express appeared in what was previously a pub so I go there

I do have great memories of Waitrose but not for its food.

My supermarket hate is Morrisons.

…I have to say that I do like their My Waitrose card…(…others might operate similarly…)…but I like how it personalises your offers and discounts etc on the things you tend to buy…/…rather than the one size fits all offers that many others do…

Love Morrisons

MTVN 11-03-2025 09:54 AM

Basically the only supermarket left which still bakes it's bread in store each morning

Only 75p

bots 11-03-2025 10:18 AM

waitrose used to be my only option and then the built a massive tesco, but i get most of my stuff from M&S home delivery

rusticgal 11-03-2025 10:23 AM

I shop at Morrisons for household stuff/tea/coffee etc and their steaks are good and well priced....but its really not as cheap as it used to be.

Basically I like the quality of fresh food like meat/fruit and veg from M&S and Waitrose.

Same

Crimson Dynamo 11-03-2025 12:25 PM

I like that the till ladies (or man) make a concerted effort to chat to you

Livia 11-03-2025 02:09 PM

If I want something particular, like if I want to do a cheese fondu without making it myself. Also, I might buy nice biscuits or chocs there to give as presents. Other than that it irritates me to shop there because it's expensive and I'm quite mean.

Crimson Dynamo 11-03-2025 02:19 PM

They do good vouchers each week

I always use my 50p off 4 pints milk and 50p off 4 bog rolls or 50p off their dog food

you can use 2 at a time

You have gone WOKE thought you did all your shopping at Aldi and Tesco, now we find you are a secret Waitrose snob

:nono:

Most of my shop is Aldi and Lidl but when the girls visit we always go to Waitrose and I get my free Waitrose magazine and their weekend newspaper. I also nip in for bread and some of their very good essentials range

:hmph:

Redway 11-03-2025 02:52 PM

Asda does a mean cooked meat section and some delicious pizzas (including the customise-your-own ones) and Morrisons is good for fresh fish and decent overall value for money. Even if I could afford to consistently be a Waitrose snob as far as the general continental shop goes, I’d still be popping in and out of Morrisons and Asda. Home-Bargains. Iceland for frozen goodies. Even Aldi for sugar-free lemon-drops and yada-yada. I do a bit of shopping everywhere.

Tesco isn’t bad but it’s like the sertraline/Zoloft of shops. So common it’s a bit generic and … ya. Just a little too common for my liking, but I don’t refuse to other altogether. I’d rather be at Asda or Waitrose but it’ll depend what I’m doing and where I am.

Crimson Dynamo 11-03-2025 04:40 PM

I just nipped down to Waitrose just now and got my 50p off milk and 50p off
dog food plus got the free for members March Magazine (normally £3.50) plus 2 of the Waitrose
weekend supplements/newspapers. I also had to buy a birthday card. I also got
some potato salad and chilli crostini bites that were on offer

Its our only supermarket in town, so I use it often,I find it okay for most foods and they have good veggie options.

Ithinkiloveyoutoo 11-03-2025 05:32 PM

Tbf I haven't done it in a long while. Maybe not since before the pandemic.

It was a time when time stood still. We may be in 2022 only but the pandemic was a major point in our history. It was a time where we clapped outside our homes like puppets on crack every Thursday, it was a time where if someone was not standing 1 metre away from the person closest to them arguments broke out, it was a time where if someone coughed they looked up with wide eyes and shame while the rest of the people around them looked on in shame, disgust and judgment, it was a time where we bought toilet paper in bulk for fear of missing out, it was a time where you could be arrested for trying to go someone's house to have sex...I shall always look back on it fondly

I mean, we’re in 2025 but I feel you. I thought you were one of those people who annoyingly think the world’s been doomed since the tail-end of 2019.
