When I was about 5 I used to think baked beans were just mashed potato wrapped in really thin pasta. Like, each little bean was its own tiny ravioli filled with mash.

Good. Don’t want your negativity in here. Off you pop x

If a mod could just clean that mess up it would be great.

I didn’t eat cauliflower for years after my older brothers convinced me it was sheep brain.

Because of how the logo was often written I thought Disney and 'Disnep' were two different film companies.

Interesting

I had never noticed the odd ‘y’ at the end ..

That said I hadn’t noticed the lower case ‘i’ followed by a capital ‘N’ then a capital ‘E’ .. then a lower case ‘y’ ..

If the ice-cream van played music it meant they were sold out of ice cream..

Redway 12-07-2025 01:59 PM

The stuff about swallowing chewing-gum being dangerous, I guess. Nothing too crazy.

MTVN 12-07-2025 03:10 PM

There is a big power station near where I grew up and near where my Dad kept his boat. He told me it was a giants house where they come out at night and roam around. I fully believed it and was absolutely terrified when I stayed a night on his boat as a kid and thought the giants would come out and grab me

one of the best things i did at work was take a photocopy of a document with the shredder

Mystic Mock 12-07-2025 06:56 PM

I believed that we all had dicks.:joker:

As a kid that is.

Barry. 12-07-2025 07:01 PM

I can’t think but I know there are a few I believed. My friend said they saw Santa travelling in the sky on the way back from Florida (think they were in the air around midnight coming near Scotland) so I always believed that story when I was little

Beso 13-07-2025 01:21 AM

At about 7, I used to think a fox would come up the toilet and bite your ass when you are sitting having a small kiddie pooop.

Ammi 13-07-2025 06:41 AM

…that we could sit in clouds, that they were like cushions in the sky…that if I ate bread crusts, my hair would definitely curl …that if I swallowed an apple/orange seed etc, a tree would grow inside me…that the people on the TV, lived inside it and that animated characters really existed as people…that trolls lived under bridges…that our shadows could run off if we didn’t say hey to them whenever we saw them…

Zizu 13-07-2025 07:01 AM

I used to think that if we were on a boat even a huge cruise liner that if it started to sink we could simply swim to safety

Funny thing was I was never much of a swimmer

That’s giving real idyllic idealism. Alas, it’s not possible but I actually kinda wish it was.

This might sound daft but when I was kid I would listen to certain songs and then listen to them as an adult and be gobsmacked what the lyrics actually were.

For example, When I was younger I always believed the lyrics to “Missing” by Everything But The Girl was “And I miss you… like the deserts mystery and realising years later that it was actually And I miss you… like the deserts miss the rain.

Dogeatdog 14-07-2025 08:14 PM

And that song by Cornershop - Brimful Of Asha. I could never work out what the lyrics were when I was a kid and then as I got older I understood what he was actually saying

Idk why it sounded different when I was a kid?

I always sang “ sail awaaay all across the ocean “

To Gallagher & Lyle’s Breakaway song

Apparently it is ..

“Breakaway, fly across your ocean
Breakaway, the time has come for you
Breakaway, fly across your ocean
Breakaway, the time has come”

……I think we all have song lyrics which we mis-sung in younger days and even though we now know the correct lyrics…?…we still sing our childhood versions of them…or is that just me…?…

In that song by Macy Gray she says “I try to talk away and I stumble” and honestly in the last year I realised it’s stumble and not stumboke

What’s a stumboke? Not a clue, but it confused me for 3 decades

Oh and I thought it was bumbo bee not bumble bee, I remember telling the dentist that the poster was spelt wrong

He probably thought I was a stupid bitch

Or up until last year I used to sing :

I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the Fiscal bay :worry:
I've had nothing to live for
Look like nothin's gonna come my way
