Should negative karma be disabled?

Just a quick poll to find out what you TiBBsters think:

Do you think negative karma should be disabled?

Billy 31-07-2007 04:52 PM

Yes it should be

sarahtheangel 31-07-2007 04:52 PM

yes i think it should who wants a negative 1 .

Dr43%er 31-07-2007 04:52 PM

I say no. Neg away. I don't care.

Lauren 31-07-2007 04:53 PM

No, LOL sorry to be the odd one out here.

But, I feel the theory of negative karma is good, if someone breaks rules, or makes a badly thought out post then they should get negative karma.
Yes it's being abused, but so is +ve karma!! People give it to their friends regardless of whether they've made good posts or not.

Sarah. 31-07-2007 04:55 PM

I think it should. People abuse it and it can make people feel as if they are not liked, even if they have done nothing wrong. However if someone abused the postitive one, it's not hurting anyones feelings.

~Kizwiz~ 31-07-2007 04:57 PM

After my initial grumbles (sorry admin/mods) I like the karma system.

I mainly give out positive karma but if some has pee'd me off.... I have been known to neg a person...it doesnt happen very often tho... and you know what it stop me from responding in a negative post so it does the job well

So why the need for the karma system if it's there to be abused?
Someone abuses the +ve karma system - yeah it may not hurt anyones feelings but it's no longer doing the job it's meant to (i.e. applauding good posts).

spot on Lozza..... couldnt agree with you more

Billy 31-07-2007 04:58 PM

people take it off they disagree with people which isnt supposed to happen

Ann 31-07-2007 05:01 PM

I totally agree that it should be disabled Matt brilliant idea too

Sophii3x 31-07-2007 05:03 PM

Nope, what's the point of having karma at all if you only have the positive? It makes it the whole thing completly pointless without the nagative.

~Kizwiz~ 31-07-2007 05:04 PM

If you dont like the karma system then turn it off...simple... you cant have positive without the negative.

Like Lauren says, yes, its seems that some people take far more negatives than they should but I also see a lot of positives given to friends... thats also abusing the system.

Billy 31-07-2007 05:04 PM

Why dont we get rid of it then, its pointless, all it does i smake people feel bad.

Billy 31-07-2007 05:05 PM

right, what did I do wrong to get another one taken off me

If it makes people feel bad then switch it off.... why should others suffer by taking it away when you could just easily take the system off if you want

Billy 31-07-2007 05:06 PM

Sophiee agree with me i gave you paris lmao just kiddin

Ruth*Star 31-07-2007 05:07 PM

Yes because when i had karma i was having karma taken of me for literally no reason, so i think just having positive would be a good option to think about.

~Kizwiz~ 31-07-2007 05:08 PM

Everyone has karma taken off them..... and they also have karma given them..... ying and yang

Dr43%er 31-07-2007 05:12 PM

Genuinely. If any of you are in a bit of a mood and want to neg someone but have no reason to, then let me become your neg receptacle. I can take it and you get it off your chest. As i say, neg away.

Sunny_01 31-07-2007 05:14 PM

No in a word it should not be. I feel that as people already have a choice about whether to have Karma switched on or not then thats enough. If people have it switched on then they accept the terms of it being on.

Richie 31-07-2007 05:17 PM

No.

What's the harm doing if you don't have it turned on?

There's a feature to turn it off if you dislike it. Why ruin it for people who DO like it and want it turned on?

Legend 01-08-2007 03:16 PM

It defeats the whole object of ''karma'' so no it shouldn't be turned off and why people waste their time with these threads is beyond me when they have the option to turn it off and have no negative karma thrown their way ever again.

Wasted 01-08-2007 03:19 PM

I agree that it's abused but I don't care personally, if you don't like it you are able to switch it off.

Sticks 01-08-2007 04:12 PM

In a contentious thread where there are differences of opinions, it seems that people are giving negative karma to those they disagree with.

When I have given negative karma it is because the person either used a racist word, thereby putting the forum in a violation the TOS with the hosting company, or they have contravened forum regulations. Who am I to judge if a post is bad, if I mearly disagree with it.

If we must have this feature, then it would be nice if the person giving karma would then have to write in a small box, why they are awarding the karma point. Then we could see the reasons and possibly appeal.

A forum I'm on has this kind of system, it's the same as karma but it's called "reputation" When you give positive reputation you write a small note as to why you like their post, and sign it if you like. When you give negative karma you say why you disliked the post.

The only thing with this is that people don't have to sign their name so they could write abusive things in the text box.

Sam! 03-08-2007 11:20 AM

I think Karma should be goned all together theres no point in it.

Sunny_01 03-08-2007 03:14 PM

like has already been said a zillion times (I exagerate not) Karma is a fun add on tool, if you dont like it or bits of it then turn it off. We did as was requested when we introduced it to the site and have made adjustments to suit people as well. No more changes are planned or anticipated to the Karma system at this time.

Ann 04-08-2007 08:18 PM

should the negative karma be took off
