That's pretty bad - I didn't tune into the highlights either, although that's because I was out. I'm still interested in what's going on. I think BB seems to have lost its 'spark' for many viewers now, and I'm not sure what it can do to attract them again. The strange mix of housemates has become 'normal' now, so the novelty has worn off. Hopefully things will improve! I expect some better twists and new ideas etc. might help.

brohoe 08-06-2008 10:08 AM

The first saturdays

In BB5, 3.1m.
In BB6, 2.7m
In BB7, 2.9m.

Spike 08-06-2008 10:08 AM

There is a ratings thread
and thats really good for a Saturday, the peak is fantastic.
C4 will be happy

marctierman 08-06-2008 10:10 AM

its a saturday people are out and stuff
it'll be better in the week
and if people don't follow it religiously
then they tend to tune in later on in the series
when it gets really good

Spike 08-06-2008 10:13 AM

At the same time as BB
ITV were on an average of 4.0m and BBC1 just over 4.5million, so BB did do brilliant last night

Fom 08-06-2008 10:18 AM

I havent had chance too watch one highlights show up too now. Ive had to watch them all on youtube.
And I hardly go out :P So if Im going out somewhere then the rest of the country must haha.

Polka.dot 08-06-2008 10:28 AM

well also most people probably watched launch night so wouldn't have to watch the highlights

So because ITV and BBC got more Big Brother did 'brilliant'?

Either way you look at it , 2.4 aint that hot. Even past Saturdays last year got much higher ratings.

xXEtchieXx 08-06-2008 10:34 AM

2.4 aint that bad for the first Saturday. Things will pick up once the bickering and controversy kicks in.

rhombus92 08-06-2008 10:52 AM

peaked at 3.1, whch isnt terrible could have done better, but it was a saturday, so hardly shocking

*mazedsalv** 08-06-2008 10:54 AM

It was up aggainist a match and was on a Saturday. Tbh, I think that the 3.1 million peak was really good at the end.

Tom 08-06-2008 11:10 AM

It was only one of two channels that went up throughout the hour.

Its a Saturday- they always do worse.

A lot of people might not be aware the Saturday highlights are back.

Last night was quite warm so more than usual out.

*mazedsalv** 08-06-2008 11:27 AM

Also the figures are not including Channel4+1, doenst the channel normally get about 100,000-300,000 people watching. So the 2.4 million can got to a 2.6 million.

brad4672 08-06-2008 11:54 AM

thats sh*t

I_got_a_jar_jars 08-06-2008 12:08 PM

Aha thats terrible!

Not really the last Saturday show which was in BB7 got 2.65 million and that was the official rating. In the officials and the +1 figures included, it could beat the BB7 rating. The +1 figures could move yesterdays rating up to 2.6 million and then the official could move it up a bit more. Also yesterday it was up aggainist Casualty and the football.

No it shows not many people were watching TV on a whole last night so 2.4m on a night not many people aren't watching TV is great.
To be that close to BBC1 and ITV1 on a Saturday is a big achievement and the weeknight shows look like they will do really well.

I_got_a_jar_jars 08-06-2008 12:18 PM

Whatever way you try to defend it you cant say the ratings were good.

For Big Brother they were still pretty dismal.

Dan_ 08-06-2008 12:21 PM

Looks like the football is having an effect on the viewing figures.

I am sure C4 are very pleased with those ratings. 3.1m peak on a Saturday the worst day of the week and when not many people were watching TV is brilliant.

If its getting 3.1m peak on a warm Saturday night, it will break the 4m barrier maybe on Monday

Not really, if you look at all ratings from 2004 onwards on Saturdays most shows got 2.7-3.3 million.

Tom4784 08-06-2008 12:40 PM

It's still great ratings for C4 though.

KKBL 08-06-2008 12:41 PM

dontb forget these ratings dont include C4+1

ProjectWeirdo 08-06-2008 12:42 PM

Well... it was a Saturday... fingers crossed they get a bit better tonight...

Captain.Remy 08-06-2008 01:04 PM

I can't see why people are kinda mad or sad about ratings. I mean who cares ? As long as you enjoy it, it doesn't matter if the show is watched by 5 millions. I personally do not care, I enjoy it. BB6 and BB8 were considered as flops but a lot of people found it entertaining. And BB7 is considered as successful in terms of ratings but I hated it.
So really, the ratings are not big deal, just enjoy and let people not be aware of what an entertaining show is.

Xander 08-06-2008 01:08 PM

That's good for Saturday highlights, but ratings shouldn't matter as long as you enjoy watching the show it all that counts.

I think both you and Remy are right... and I wish I had that attitude, but the thing that makes me sad is that it should get more viewers... it's a really entertaining program, and it deserves to be watched by more people.

At least, that's my opinion...

Lauren 08-06-2008 01:11 PM

Most people are out on a Saturday night anyway. All the first Saturdays have been bad.

TV ratings are judged AGAINST EACH OTHER not on how many people overall are in watching TV. And judged against THE OTHER NETWORKS BB still lost out pretty bad , no matter what the overall viewers in tele land were that night. Its pointless making excuses. And your in no position as an unofficial spokesperson for C4 to say they are 'happy' with them.

Just enjoy the show and stop constantly trying to defend BB ratings.

Bright-Eyes 08-06-2008 01:34 PM

It works really well on sat. Why mess with it.

x_mel_x 08-06-2008 02:25 PM

Thats low for all the channels considering last Saturday ITV must have got about 12 million for BGT final

Emilee 08-06-2008 02:27 PM

Its the highest Saturday night audience C4 have had in a long time
BB was very close to programs in the same slot as ITV1 and BBC1, C4 is never going to beat those channels on a Saturday night so it is an achievement getting that close
Just because other programs have got better ratings doesn't mean it did bad
It did well for C4 and to say ratings on a whole were down
BB probably got more 16-34's than any other program in that slot, thats what bring in the money from the advertisers.
I think it was a success last night.
If we are going to judge it against other programs in the same slot most highlight shows in Big Brother history would of be seen as doing badly.

sol 08-06-2008 02:50 PM

Big Brother usually attracts the 16-24 demographic which on Saturday night aren't usually in watching telly.
I don't think they need to worry inless it starts dipping below 2 million.

LovelyL 08-06-2008 02:53 PM

Saturday everyones out!! I wouldnt worry about it, if its like that mid-week...then panic
