My mate's post code is Lancashire so that's basically where he's from, but he lives in Liverpool if that makes sense.

I don't understand Lancashire, how can people from Liverpool be classed as Lancashire and so can people from Manchester?

Lancashire is a big place and theres only 30 miles between Manchester and Liverpool. But my area is a big grey area and its under a lot of confusion. Not only do I practically live on the border between Cheshire & Lancashire, but Greater Manchester is a new(ish) region which has taken over half of the old Lancashire but nobody actually knows where to. I've read and been told that I live in all three at some point. Its very confusing so its just easier to say I'm from Manchester. In all honesty I have no idea what region I actually live in, although when I put my post code in on stuff on the internet Lancashire always comes up so I'm more inclined to put that ...

It's not half wierd, I live 10 mins on a bus from town, then my bus going the other way takes 15 mins and apparantly I'm in Lancashire when it's another area in Liverpool. It's not half strange.

Ha, please tell me someone not just called it ScouseLand?! LOL please no.

Fom 16-07-2008 10:59 PM

Manchester isnt in Lancashire... manchester has its own county now called "Greater Manchester" which includes the area surrounding manchester. Lancashire... starts somewhere in salford and goes round the edge of greater manchester, closest I am to Lancashire is Oldham.
Not many people know this as it is reasonably new... but if you live in manchester, thats why busses havent got "Lancashire" on them, instead they have GMPTE, "Greater Manchester public transport something" :P

New fact for today ;)

xDramatick 16-07-2008 11:01 PM

But a lot of people refer to Greater Manchester as Manchester, and GMPTE transport goes outside of Greater Manchester as well. It splits a few cities around Manchester, one example you given is Salford, so thats where it all starts to get confusing. Live in one half of Salford and you live in Greater Manchester, which most people will call Manchester and confuse the two, and live in the other half and you're in Lancashire. Then where is the line drawn? Another (similar) example is Trafford, half of which is in Lancs and the other half in Cheshire. So it is very ******ed up and confusing :joker:

Kate.. 16-07-2008 11:17 PM

True, I think thats why most people get confused that salford is in manchester, its in greater manchester but not in manchester. Its just like where I live im not technically in Manchester, im in Greater Manchester but I still call it manchester haha.
I agree it is confusing, and it took me ages to work out where I was.
