Batman: The Dark Knight (Summer 2008) [All Threads Merged]

I've got two films which I cannot wait for in 2008. This is the first one. It stars Heath Ledger as the Joker, Christian Bale as Batman, and the likes of Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart.

The trailer.

Thoughts?

Shaun 17-05-2008 11:01 PM

Bump.

Anyone know when this is out? I notice Meredith has a Dark Knight-themed avatar.

And wow, I posted this before he died.

Arneldo 17-05-2008 11:04 PM

We are the last to get it. It's not out in the UK & Ireland until 25th July. Australia get it on 17th, followed by USA on 18th of July.

Shaun 17-05-2008 11:05 PM

Ah right cool, thanks for that.

Tom4784 17-05-2008 11:05 PM

I think it's June or July. I can't wait for this film, i think it could very well be one of my favourite films of the year since Batman Begins was amazing and the same team made this one too.

Meredith 17-05-2008 11:11 PM

I'm looking forward to this (as you can see). :D

Xander 17-05-2008 11:24 PM

It looks pretty good, might go and see it when its out.

Callum 06-07-2008 02:30 PM

I can't wait for this! I loved Batman Begins so this should be good. I heard it's longer than 3 hours though

GhettoSuperstar 06-07-2008 02:34 PM

I can't wait to see this! Not been excited about a film since Spiderman 3 and it's out in about 3 weeks!! Woohoo!

Looks like it is done really well, looks dark and mysterious.

Hugo 06-07-2008 02:36 PM

It looks really good and I will definelty go and see it even though I didn't find the first one all that great. I'm glad they have introduced the joker into this one aswell it will make it more exciting with a familiar villain rather than that scarecrow freak from the first one. My second most anticipted film of the summer after Mama Mia!

Sarah. 06-07-2008 02:40 PM

I can't wait to see this either!

Blink_Me 18-07-2008 11:07 AM

This movie is going to break box office records.

Firewire 18-07-2008 11:11 AM

I so want to see this.

Firewire 18-07-2008 11:14 AM

Heath Ledger (who plays the Joker), died January 22, 2008 aged 28 after an accidental prescription drug overdose.

Yeah  Apparently there's a tribute to him in the end credits.

Rory 18-07-2008 09:27 PM

I just got back from it.
Amazing. Batman's really come a long way since the crappiness that was Batman & Robin. Christopher Nolan was amazing at directing it!

You're in for a treat, whenever it comes out.

MarkWaldorf 18-07-2008 09:37 PM

Ahh, I need it now.

When he was casted as the Joker people thought he didn't suit the part and wouldn't do well but he was amazing, I agree with Rory, the movie was amazing. I saw it on IMAX

Callum 18-07-2008 09:46 PM

I can't wait to see it! Is it a really long film?

I was going to watch it in IMAX, but the tickets are sold out for about 5 days, so I figured I couldn't wait any longer and decided to go today.

I'm going again tomorrow with more friends

Annie 19-07-2008 09:01 AM

XxShortyxX 20-07-2008 12:04 PM

I actually want to see this film, even though it's more of a mans film lol.

Emzy-!! 20-07-2008 02:54 PM

I can't wait to watch Batman, i hear that Heath Ledger is great as the Joker. It is really sad that he died, and I'm pretty sure i will cry watching the film. LOL

Callum 20-07-2008 02:57 PM

I'm going to see it on the first day. :hello:

LOL Chewy!

Shaun 20-07-2008 05:22 PM

People are claiming Ledger's portrayal of the Joker is the "best portrayal of a villain ever".

I'm sorry, but that's bollocks. I know it's sad he died but he doesn't REALLY deserve all this huge hype. Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs / Jack Nicholson in The Shining easily are the best.

I agree. I haven't seen it so I can't comment on Heath's acting, but it does seem all the buzz for the film is on him. It is meant to be REALLY good though, so hopefully he does live up to the hype.

Shaun 20-07-2008 05:26 PM

Yeah, I agree.

 Well I forgot to tell you, I leave my MSN on a lot without putting away status' so don't think I'm ignoring you!

I really think Rachel McAdams should've taken over Katie Holmes' role as Rachel Dawes; however, Maggie Gyllenhaal was a good choice. What were they thinking with Holmes in Begins?

Callum 20-07-2008 06:10 PM

I'm rewatching Batman Begins tonight to refresh my memory. I never knew Christian Bale was welsh.

GhettoSuperstar 20-07-2008 06:17 PM

It's 3 hours long?

Must be a mighty good film, I've literally been counting down the days to see it.

'Dark Knight' sets weekend record with $155.34M
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Warner Bros. executive says the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" has taken in $155.34 million to top "Spider-Man 3" for best opening weekend ever at the box office.

The figures released Sunday show "The Dark Knight" more than $4 million ahead of the $151.1 million first weekend for "Spider-Man 3" in May 2007.

Studio distribution chief Dan Fellman says "The Dark Knight" also broke the "Spider-Man 3" record for best debut in IMAX large-screen theaters with $6.2 million. "Spider-Man 3" opened with $4.7 million in IMAX cinemas.
