Education Mantinance Allowance

We get £30 a week (or less depending on parents wage)

xDramatick 21-10-2008 08:48 PM

Nope
Applied mid-august and all i've got is a letter saying that i've been processed and will receive another letter shortly :\

It annoys me though.
I really need the money.
I've turned up everyday and college are saying they'll only pay back 4 weeks, and only if i got this sheet signed by all my tutors, everyday.
It's not fair because I've been in everyday, every lesson and the registers reflect that :\
I should be backpaid for everything.

Scarlett. 21-10-2008 08:49 PM

I applied in late September, its strange how I have mine so early

MarkWaldorf 21-10-2008 09:03 PM

Nope I don't qualify for it as my parents earn too much or something. Nearly everyone in my year gets it though.

haha, a girl in my class was complaining because she doesn't get EMA and I'm like 'that's a good thing! it means your family earns enough to support you' lmfao.

LOL yeah true, but they aren't giving me thirty pounds a week! What do/are you meant to spend it on?

College stuff/lunch I suppose.
I only need Lunch one day cos the rest are all half days so i can eat at home.
Most of mine would go on clothes [hard to dance/move in skinnies ++costume stuff for shows that college can't provide] and general stuff like that.

For someone doing A Levels, I suppose it'd be for stationary, text books etc.

Indierock&roll 21-10-2008 10:00 PM

i dont get an ema i dont think.. well my sister never.. so i presume i dont?
i want it though because then people will actually have money and i wont as my mum and dad seem to get in the biggest mood if i ask for some its like yep i do want a social life thank you

Princess 21-10-2008 10:00 PM

*feels Irish* No but we get 'free' fees for 3rd level, they increased the registration fee already but theres a HUGE protest in Dublin tomorrow against full fees.

xDramatick 22-10-2008 06:03 PM

Outta interest, does anyone know of anyway I can make sure I get all my payments backdated from September?
I probably won't start getting it till Xmas at this rate but surely I deserve every £30 a week all the way back if I've never been absent?

Just make sure you keep all the timesheets, i'm doing that and my college is going to give me everything I am entitled to
Also there is somewhere you can phone to tell them that you have been at college all the time and are entitled to the money

That's the thing, I missed timesheets for the first few weeks cos I thought I'd have to wait until my entry was submitted to get them signed and most of mine are missing an entry or two.
I'll try that phone number though, they must have records on the registers =| thankyouu.

Yeah me and my friends missed the first few weeks but we got someone from the college to phone somewhere and we are going to get what we are entitled to. If the number will be useful for you then I will try and find it out later
