Teenage girls posting pictures with little on

There's been a little bit in the media lately about teenage girls posting pictures of themselves on social networking sites and other parts of the internet with little on. You don't know who is out there, for all they know Garry Glitter could be looking at a picture of them in just their bra.

What do you make of this? Is it right and should the internet be policed to refrain people from doing it?

Annie 26-10-2008 10:34 PM

Yeah there was something about this on Channel 4 news the other day how that guy was saving all the pics from myspace etc cos girls were just posting pics of them in their underwear and the pics arent protected?

Is that the same thing?

I totally agree though, its like if you wana be a glamour model or porn star etc do it on a glamour model page!!

But most of the girls wouldnt be able to do that anyway.

pinkmichk 26-10-2008 10:34 PM

i dont like it it should be policed somehow not sure how though maybe parents?
my cousin has just turned 16 and some of her birthday pics on facebook have shocked me maybe i am getting prudish with my age but some of the poses (even though she had clothes albeit short skirt on) were downright shocking and almost pornstar like

If they want to do it then let them... I have no problems with it.

If I cared about the person that was posting the photos then yeah my opinion would change, but I don't think anyone I know would be stupid enough to do it in the first place.

I think the only girls who post pictures of themselves online are gullible and sometimes desperate. They should have more pride.

Agreed

I can name 5 that do it in my school, its stupid and they are little skets anyway! I know girls as young as 13 doing it! Discusting!

melanie 26-10-2008 10:49 PM

In my opinion, kids who post those kind of pictures are just seeking for attention.

My ex-boyfriend's little sister gave out a topless photo of herself to her boyfriend and he posted it on a local internet forum. She got called a slut, *****, etc. Shes only 14.
She said it was a "private" picture but come on.. nothing on the internet is private. Private photobuckets aren't really even private anymore.
Thing is, if you don't want anyone to see, don't put it on the internet.
She learned the hard way.

I dont mind them posting pictures, nothing wrong with that, as long as they are not racy and stuff. YOu never know , it might come back to bite you on the ass, if you become a public figure in the future. No one knows where they will be 10 20 years from now!

Lauren 26-10-2008 11:06 PM

If they're under 18, and the photos are even slightly pornographic, the website hosting them can be done for hosting child pornography - therefore it's up to the social networking sites to remove the pics.

^,^

Bear in mind potential employers may be vetting social networking sites as part of their selection process.

If you do not want an employer to see it, or an admissions secretary, do not put it up

Sunny_01 27-10-2008 12:17 PM

Its worrying that young people are making themselves so vulnerable.

Someone was telling me that Wife swap was on this morning and one of the families had a wayward 12 year old girl. She was posting pictures of herself in bikinis on the web. I think at that age, the parents should be overseeing what their children are doing on the net. I think when they become older and are left to their own devices then they should really know better.

Yeah, that kind of thing ought to be supervised by parents - but then I've been using forums since I was 12 and nobody's ever supervised me or checked what I've been posting on the Internet, mostly because I'm responsible I guess.

Mrluvaluva 27-10-2008 07:13 PM

Her father asked why she was doing it and she said "because we look hot".

Annie 27-10-2008 07:16 PM

There are more and more girls doing it though. Its a shame cos they must think that their bodies are the only way they can get attention.

Indierock&roll 27-10-2008 07:17 PM

ugh its vile.. why do they do it though? its discusting

That's true. I think it cheapens them though. They may impress some people on the internet but they will for all the wrong reasons.

Sunny_01 28-10-2008 09:47 AM

I find it astonishing that they think so little of themselves. My daughter posts many photos of herself on her facebook etc.. but none of them are of her in inappropriate poses. I am not saying she is unique though as I know her friends are all the same, there are only 1 or 2 people she knows that post risque photos on their spaces.

I think some level of parental responsibility comes into play here, we all have to monitor web activity etc..

Killian 29-10-2008 03:36 PM

If any my female friends did that I'd go completely insane.

Honest.

*mazedsalv** 29-10-2008 03:37 PM

I even told my best friend that her skirt was too short and tarty when she came to the cinema last week. I was just looking out for her. If I saw my friend posting pics with almost nothing on Facebook or something, I will shout at them.

Corkie 29-10-2008 04:00 PM

A girl in the year below mine (She was in Year 9 at the time) took loads of pictures of herself. Firstly wearing bras then went onto wearing nothing. She was 14 I think at the time. She made a name of herself of being "easy" she's only 14 and she's going to be remembered as the girl who puts topless pictures of herself on myspace.

It was another girl in her year who reported the pictures to myspace.
It's just insane that she uploaded the pictures herself.
