Jeff Buckley = overrated
Probably an unpopular opinion but I think that version is overrated and Alexandra's is better
|
WooW!!!!!! A bit laughable there.
|
lmao =|
no way is it better. it's a good version but seriously? |
Just because Alex sang it powerfully, doesnt mean its better. Its supposed to be a soft song anyways, if you go by the lyrics, and by the original.
|
well there's 3 opinions on this;
1.Alexandras is better 2.Jeff's is better 3.the usual Musical Snob "nothings better then the original" crap(despite the fact most people who say it have'nt actualy ever heard the origina) think ill go with 2. |

Personally, I adore the Buckley version and hate Alex's. She completely over sings it. I do love Diana's rendition of it though. I also am not fond of the original (Leonard Cohen). |

A 4 octave range can't be overrated.
|
Diana's would've been better than Alex's.
Jeff's is better than Alex's, though. |
lol diana can not sing! She puts that daft voice on, strange.:puzzled:
Alex is the best but jeff was ok, thats it just ok. |
Alexandra > Leonard Cohen > Jeff Buckley, in my opinion.
|
If Leonard Cohen or Jeff Buckley's version didn't exist then Alex's would be half decent. It's like Leona's version of Run, decent by itself but compared to the originals it completely misses the point. The production is way too big when it should be understated and the fact they put in a key change and a gospel choir is sickening.
I like Alex but I hate the song. I'll be patiently waiting for original material. |
After listening to Jeff's i much prefer Alexandra's.
|
Well I can safely say I've never heard that opinion before.
|
Imo, I like the girls version better than Jeff's(dont know her name) but she sang it during the OC when Marisa dies.
Alexandra's version is INCREDIBLE too as was Diana's bootcamp one. Wow!! |
I hate how people overrate Jeff's version. Yes, it's good, sung with raw emotion and is an instant classic - but it's not the best thing ever.
Personally, I prefer Imogen Heap's version. It's a completely different arrangement and is much more my style. Alexandra's is my favourite version of them all. |

FYI S1 Model Home Fire = Jeff Buckley S1 Finale = Jeff Buckley S3 Finale = Imogen Heap All great parts of The OC  |
Anyway I love Jeff, Imogen and Alexandra's versions.
I totally adore them all, seriously. I think I love Jeff's and Imogen's the most jus because of the OC and Jeff's especially with all of the emotion and rawness. But I do still rate Alexandra's up there with the best. |
well, tbf to alex she did sing it better (in my opinion anyway)
but its her own interpretation of the song, its not meant to be better than the original. |
I dont even know who he is lol

I really like Jeff's version, along with Alexandra's but Kate Voegele's version is pretty good too, IMO :) I prefer Alex's though because it reminds me of her winning and how emotional she was. :)

I think the title of this thread is an insult to Jeff Buckley.
I'd say each of us have a preference for a different version of the song, but that in no way means that any of the artists are over-rated. The same goes with Snow Patrol/Leona Lewis and the song "Run". Everyone has their preference, and some people like both. I personally enjoy most of the versions of Hallelujah, but Jeff Buckley's version is the one I find the most emotional. |
I don't think that the 'power' in which a song is sung is defined by the strength of the voice. Jeff Buckley's version is spell-bindingly haunting. His style of singing the song really adds to the mood and presence of the song (which is actually about the 'joy of orgasms'). Alexandra's version is amazing, but in a different way to which Jeff's version is.
I think though that in 50 years times people will look back and say "Oh, Hallelujah - that Jeff Buckley song" not Alexandra or Leonard Cohen's. |
This thread is totally insulting. :nono:
Jeff Buckleys version is 300X better than Alexandra and that manufactured piece of ****. |

Another thread putting across an unnecessarily insulting point of view.
Personally, I think Alex and JLS both murdered a great song. I kind of liked both version up to the point of the key change where they airlift in the big production. There are many quite profound lines that are totally buried by the big production. The songs going to make a lot of money for a lot of people but Jeff Buckley must be spinning in their grave and I wonder of they'll ask Leonard Cohen how he feel about the version considering it took him almost a year to write the original.. |
I wouldn't go so far as to say Jeff Buckley would be spinning in his grave. After all, he's not the original artist, so who's he to say how it should be done.
Most musicians will have their work covered badly at some point. |

Some musicians dont allow cover versions of their work and its easy to understand why when you hear this over produced , chart friendly, money making version of a great song. |
My impression was that alex at least gave the song ooomph, but the JLS version was drudgery! I dread to think what egghead would have sounded like. :dance2:
Is this such a good song? The lyrics are strange too, talking about tying people to kitchen chairs, cutting their hair.....Sweeney Todd or bondage? 'The joy of orgasms'? Oh, I'd better tell my gran...she thought it was a religious ditty!! |
Just listened to Jeff Buckley's version (who I hadn't heard of before this week), and thought it was pretty average, Alex's is better IMO.
|
I might have liked Alex's version if it wasn't for the typical X Factorisms such as the key changes and the gospel choir. I don't mind the first minute or so when it's just a guitar with Alex's vocals but then it gets ridiculous.

Imagine if they gave "Time to say goodbye" some 'oomph'....*makes sure Simon Cowell isnt lurking |
My opinion is
Jeff Buckley > Leonard Cohen > Imogen Heap. Musically, Jeff Buckley tops most, if not all, of them. Multi-octave voice and haunting vocals. But obviously I accept others see it other ways. I really dislike Alex's version, not because of her singing, just because of her style. |
