Short forms of names
 

I was discussing this today with some friends; there are some names that have a huge number of variants to them (for example Elizabeth -> Lizzie/Lizzy, Liz, Lily, Beth, Eliza, Betty, Elise, Lisa, Abbie, Ellie, Ella, Libby etc.) and we were trying to think of as many short forms for different names as we could. I reckon Elizabeth must have the most short forms, but you get names like Mary and Anne which quite often get used in double barreled names, and have foreign equivalents that are quite common over here (Maria, Anna etc) and male names like Alexander which are universal.

My name's fairly boring, it's Greg, which is a short form of Gregory (though my name is just Greg) and there's not much you can do with it.

Mine's the other way around, lol. My name's Mark but some people call me Markus. (my username)

mines michelle but most my friends call me shell and my nan always puts in birthday and christmas cards michael in almost 25 years of life i have only had 1 card that said michelle

Darenn, occassionally shortened to:
- Dal'. [only really family]
- Daz. [only mates]
- Dazzle. [only mates]

Sarah.. people call me Sar and I think that's it =D

Mine is Angela, and I don't mind/and I use any form of the name long or short, so I gladly go by Ang or Angie

Just one exception though and it was'nt till I joined here I got Ang shortened again to Ann:rolleyes: :mad: now that one is a defo :nono:

Which can be narrowed down to Nicky (Or any spelling you can dream up xD).. Nic, Nicks, and Niko (<-Chewy).

Probs some more (that are actually names. not silly names :nono:)

James, some people call me Jamie.

My name isn't shortened from anything, though people always think it is.
Kate > could be Katherine Katrina Katie Katriona Kath Kathy

But nope, I'm Kate, which can't be shortened. People do tend to call me Kit Kat though

I've gathered from this thread that a lot of people have the same issues as me! :laugh2: I absolutely hate when people ask "is your name short for Gregory?" - even if it was, why would you ask? There was this girl that used to go to my school, literally every couple of days she would ask me that same question. Moron.
