Mainstream Music

Who Loves Mainstream music! I do! I Love hearing from well known people, all of these indi bands my friends go on about, i do not really care Lol.

MrGaryy 18-03-2009 08:52 PM

Who loves the mainstream music?! LMAO. Um practically the entire population that's what makes it mainstream. It's not a genre or anything.

Axiom 18-03-2009 08:52 PM

Hmmm...I prefer underground beats tbh...even though my 2 fave acts (Pendulum & The Prodigy) have been becoming more mainstream recently.

LemonJam 18-03-2009 08:53 PM

I'm hating most the synth-pop based stuff recently =\ been looking back at music from late 90's and early 00's lately haha.

Twilight 18-03-2009 08:53 PM

Whats Mainstream Music

Lewis. 18-03-2009 08:54 PM

I mean like, who cannot stand, Not main stream music XP

Twilight 18-03-2009 08:58 PM

I don't know what is it is it like the songs that are played a lot or something

Fom 18-03-2009 09:00 PM

I just listen to anything that looks good, I get annoyed when people start going on about how they have all these undiscovered bands, to be fair I couldn't care less if its a good song, I will listen to it.

Lewis. 18-03-2009 09:01 PM

Music from Popular Artists. Ldy Gaga, Rihanna, Leona etc.

Yet another nonsensical quote. Non mainstream music is not a genre therefore if you like mainstream music then you are sure to like music that is not mainstream. Mainstream music after all is just artists who have yet to make it/didn't make it.

I think what you REALLY mean here is who here likes R'n'B/Pop/Dance as opposed to Indie/Emo/Electro/Jazz/Blues/Metal/Grunge/Grime/Bass/ect.

Axiom 18-03-2009 09:02 PM

Example of Mainstream:

Underground:

The difference is that nearly all mainstream acts are either cheesy or camp - whereas underground and dirtier beats are more like the aforementioned Hold Your Colour.

Pendulum is mainstream, you are getting mainstream and 'pop' mixed up.

Shaun 18-03-2009 09:08 PM

I don't mind most of what's mainstream, but I think people should expand their minds a bit. You don't have to look at what's current and on the radio at the moment, why not explore old music?

Yes, mainstream is basically anything thats in some form of chart, wether it be the rock, pop, indie chart.

The example of Pendulum I gave is not as mainstream as their recent album has become.

GhettoSuperstar 18-03-2009 09:16 PM

U2, Kings Of Leon (now) and Coldplay are very mainstream.

well,to be perfectly honest indie is much more mainstream then R&B nowadays.

Princess 18-03-2009 11:15 PM

People shouldn't like music because it's mainstream or because it isn't. They just like the music because it's good.

Sure,I adore one of the most mainstream bands there is but not because they're mainstream.I'm proud when they break records and get number 1's but if their music was crap it wouldn't make a difference.

*wonders if that made any sense*

Yes I agree, i was just speaking on what i thought Lewis would see as mainstream.

Mrluvaluva 19-03-2009 05:37 PM

It doesn't matter what genre a song is. If I like it, I like it. I have an eclectic music taste.

Scarlett. 19-03-2009 05:38 PM

Indie is usually crap, there is some diamonds among the sea of crap, but basically, its mostly college stoners who cant sing

Harry! 19-03-2009 05:42 PM

Madonna is mainstream so I like mainstream

The indie music scene is very diverse though. It has changed a lot over the years as the indie charts used to be for releases on independent record labels. Now it has evolved into a genre of music. I suppose it depends how you classify music. There are artists that you could personally view as good and bad in every genre. It's all down to personal taste.

Yeah, but Indie bands dont make the effort...I mean they seriously look like random jobless stoners

Jen 19-03-2009 05:47 PM

I'm fed up of the Indie Scene.
It was good back in 2004 when there were decent bands and artists, now its all just a string of same sounding bands being like eachother.... boring.

Make an effort with the music....or their appearances?

Axiom 19-03-2009 05:50 PM

Anything on the shitty Fizz music channel is mainstream.

Both, like Jen said, they all sound the same, apart from the odd few

Tom4784 19-03-2009 05:53 PM

I like mainstream but I love my indie stuff. Indie isn't just the kooks and Arctic Monkeys (Not really indie but serve my point). It's got different genres and is too vast to be judged.

There are some good indie bands out there. The Last Shadow Puppets are one off the top of my head who have a different sound to the majority of "indie bands" out there.

Scarlett. 19-03-2009 06:00 PM

Thats why I said "odd few" Im not condeming the whole genre as crap :flower:

Tom4784 19-03-2009 06:01 PM

Just to alliterate my earlier point. There's more types of Indie music then there is in the mainstream.

Shaun 19-03-2009 06:09 PM

I think the problem with Indie music is that people are a lot more exposed to all these bands sounding the same thanks to sites such as MySpace, Last.FM... the whole 'indie' scene has increased tenfold in recent years, whereas beforehand you'd only really come across one or two.

I wasn't singling you out lol I was just making a general statement to everyone who thought indie was just stuff like the kooks.

30stone 19-03-2009 06:12 PM
