Who will you be in 10 years time?

Just because I'm curious about your life plans :)
Be as detailed as you wish! I will do mine now

and yes I know there are threads on this but they are old [=dead]

Lauren 08-07-2009 09:49 PM

I'll wait to see what others' look like first so I don't go into too much or too little detail (if I go into too much I'll seem purely psycho haha)

SiaSiaSia 08-07-2009 09:51 PM

I'll be 27!

Hopefully(!) my next 10 years will be:

2009-2010: A2s in French, German, History, Critical Thinking... hopefully take up Spanish GCSE and drop Philosophy?
2010-2011: Gap year :) need to arrange this :) Hopefully doing some amazing things with amazing people
2011-2012: First year of uni - doss around make friends and partyyyy :thumbs2: Doing modern foreign languages at a GOOD university hopefully. And by good uni I mean top 30?. Doing either: French and German, French German and Spanish, French German and Swedish, or French and Spanish...
2012-2013: Second year of uni
2013-2014: YEAR ABROAD :D hopefully 6 months in france and 6 in germany, or 444 if I do three!
2014-2015: last year!
2015-2016: Masters at Oxford university? Maybe extra studying? (about as likely as me being reincarnated as a mushroom but i could dream) It's like my ultimate dream to go there, but I balled up my GCSEs. :(
2016-2017: MOVEEEEEE ... somewhere and get a job or own my own buisness... I'd quite like to work in London for a few years, or maybe Paris.
2018-2010: Ditto, maybe start thinking about marrying?

Christina 08-07-2009 09:51 PM

What age are you when you go to uni??

Lauren 08-07-2009 09:53 PM

Okay, I'll be 30!!

Hopefully my next 10 years will be:

- Graduate from Psychology with a 1st or 2:1.
- Move to Glasgow with my boyfriend.
- Either get a job, or do a masters/PHd at Glasgow Uni.
- Begin to work in judicial system as a Psychologist, or directly within a jail.
- Get married.
- Maybe have a child.

No offence but media journalism doesn't help you get into magazine companiesss!

Yeah, Eng Lit would be a much better choice.

Stu 09-07-2009 08:01 PM

In ten years, assuming I am alive, I will be [stops to think] 28 years old.

Hopefully by then I will be in the music industry in some capacity. By the end of the year I should have a dual synthesizer setup to work on the tracks I have already done demos for using PC sequencer software.

I expect I will be single, living in a flat, and really - living the same sort of adolescent lifestyle I am living now. Which is fine by me. I cant see myself having any sort of 'commitments' save for my own creative commitments.

I always drew the line at where I wanted to stand financialy. Money does not bother me in the slightest as long as I have a warm flat and money to spend on all the things that make me happy. As long as I have a room, a large bed, a large TV, a collection of consoles, a sky box, a self sufficient supply of plants to ... appreciate ... and good mates, I am happy out.

So to recap, ten years time : Flat, amateur horticulturist, crafter of fine synthesized beats, and everything else the way it is now. Im having too much fun to change a thing .

DamonJ 09-07-2009 08:02 PM

In ten years I'll be 15 and would like to be a manufactured popstar/ actor.

Sequencer software is something like FL Studio. Think of it as Photoshop for music, or Windows Movie Maker for music [albeit more complicated and all that].

You can blag FL Studio via torrent in about ten minuets. It's great fun even if you dont plan on doing anything constructive on it, because it comes with plenty of synthesizer pluggins with thousands of sounds, and turns your keyoard into a ... well ... keyboard.

In 10 years time I will be 24 :O

- Get a GCSE in all subjects I do, apart From PE (Expected to get an E in PE, and above a B in Physics, averything else A and A+) - (Yes, I'm a bit of a Geek, but to me, Geek means Success)
- Go To College and Study English Lit, Drama and Media
- Learn to Drive and Get a nice car for my 17th
- Get A Levels

From here there are two Paths...

1))
- Go to university and get a degree in English Lit/Media
- Move To London, from Cornwall, and Get a small Flat by Myself
- Get A Job working for a celebrity Magazine Company, Heat* Would be perfect :P
- Live By Myself until about 24 and then move in with a GF and carry on my Magazine writing/editing job

2))
- Go To university and Study Drama
- Move To London and get a jobs doing TV Work, hopefully good paying stuff ;) My Dream would be Eastenders :P
- Settle down at the age of 23 with a Girlfriend

- I do not plan to have Kids until I am about 30ish. I want to think about my career and my own life first

So Yeeh, I am quite an optimistic thinker when thinking about how my life will turn out, but I work hard so hopefully I will acheive what I want =]

I really, really wouldn't recommend doing those A-levels with such good GCSEs.
At least take 4 AS levels to start with, and Media won't help you with what you want to do.

Stu 09-07-2009 08:31 PM

I cant believe how pre planned some of you have your lives. Specific ages for settling down to me is a bizzare concept. How do you know when you are going to want to settle down? You cant just attatch numbers to things.

Try life on autopilot. It only crashes some of the time :hello:.

You don't need any specific degree to get into magazine companies.
If you choose something like "media journalism" that really limits your options.
However if you chose something like Englit/History etc. then it puts you in a better position
It doesn't matter to an extent what you do, but how you do.
An employer would be more impressed with a "proper" subject than something so specific

This is what I've been told by employers, careers advisors etcetc
