Women hitting men - Male victims of domestic violence

Men are increasingly becoming the more silent victims of domestic violence. As we have a discussion on men hitting women I figured it might be nice to address the balance and look at things from the other perspective.

There are more and more helplines and agencies in place to help men who are victims of domestic violence but I wonder how many men access these? how many men feel they have the courage to say enough?

Some of the sites I came across are worth a look, statistics etc might prove eye opening for example "Home Office research states that one in five men will be victims of domestic violence and two men every three weeks are killed by their partner. "

What was very clear is that there is no where near the amount of support available for men as there is for women who are victims of this type of cruelty.

So what are your thoughts? should there be more help available?

Beastie 28-07-2009 11:23 AM

yes more help should be available!!

Marc 28-07-2009 11:27 AM

well yeah help should be made available for everybody. I don't often hear about men being abused by women

No one should hit anyone, but women have a humongous history of being battered. Men are usually stronger and do more damage to women.

my mum used to hit my dad
but then 5 years later she was in a relationship with the most repulsive man i have ever met
if it wasnt my own mother i'd say it was karma

Only once seen what I thought was a woman treating a guy like this on a night out with friends who brought this couple along.

It struck me that it is possibly a certain type of guy who, whilst still being stronger, is just vulnerable and could well have been beaten up by her.

Shocked me at the time. I think as much help should be given to men in that situation as women as other then leaving (never understood why this isn't easy but not been in the position) what can the guy do? If he fought back it would probably be him up on a charge and not her.

Its probably a male pride thing with male victims

Mrluvaluva 24-08-2009 09:44 PM

It shouldn't happen to anyone. Male or female. I think many men feel it is wrong to hit a woman. Even in self defence. I also agree with Tom. I don't think many men would report such incidents due to the fact that they might feel stupid about the fact they have been beaten by a woman. Fear of ridicule. All due to stereotypical behaviour.

Maybe if the help men could get was advertised more prolifically, they might realise there is help out there for them. I don't think most men are aware of their support options. And I think there should be more support available as I believe incidents of this nature are hugely unreported.

Lol, i saw a man being pulled out of the bus and two girls beating him up, and also have you heard about the two women who raped a man (i havent some officer told me this when i was at school 3 years ago). My auntie used to beat the hell out of my uncle and one tragic day he commited suicide after 2 years of abuse, he was 16 but disabled and she always threatened she would kill him if he tells, when he did tell my grandfather(really grandfathers brother) didnt belive him and even called him a liar and slapped him for lieing and it didnt happen daily it just happend when that mental woman was angry they kind of noticed she was mental when she hit her father. then they realised he was telling the truth and he wasnt mental, like a film ending lol...
