Seems it's just a way of coping, like referring to herself in the third person helps her to reassess the situation she finds herself in and conclude which way she'd want herself to behave.
I don't particularly see why that should be at all irritating.

to be honest ... she makes me dislike watching the program. I don't think any previous HM has gotten under my skin the way she does.

I haven't noticed it so it's not irritating me any.... but then again a lot of what he say's on the live feed ignore if I feel she does things designed to impress or attract notice.
